Certain other data were obtained, such as the records of acreage and production, the status of the artichoke canning industry, and a history of the attempts which have been made by various organizations to undertake marketing functions, which would aid in an understanding of marketing practices and problems. Since many persons are unfamiliar with the artichoke a brief description of the origin and history of the crop will be of interest.
