Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written in the early 1980s, author I.A. McDougall shows that as an import-dependent country, Canada was ill-prepared for possible disruptions in its oil supply. McDougall envisioned a future in which superpower rivalry over dwindling world reserves, coupled with rationing of supply by OPEC members and volatility in the Persian Gulf, would make Canada's dependence on foreign oil increasingly precarious. He asserted that the contemporary Liberal government's National Energy Program was a usueful first step in promotion an independent energy strategy. Marketing Canada's Energy is a passionate addition to the lively debate over Canada's independence during the 1980s.

Book Impacts of Market Based Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Policies on U S Manufacturing Competitiveness

Download or read book Impacts of Market Based Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Policies on U S Manufacturing Competitiveness written by Arthur M. Wiese and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 1999-05 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Kyoto Protocol requires that total emissions of greenhouse gases from Annex I countries be at least 5% below 1990 levels by the 2008-2012 period. Market-based approaches are proscribed by the Clinton Administration to meet the U.S. emission targets set by the treaty. This paper informs on the impacts that market-based mitigation policies could have on U.S. manufacturing competitiveness. More specifically, given that the treaty calls for mandatory emission reductions from Annex I countries only, U..S. manufacturing cost impacts are examined vis-a-vis those of both member & non-member countries. 50 charts & tables.

Book World Trade Law and the Emergence of International Electricity Markets

Download or read book World Trade Law and the Emergence of International Electricity Markets written by Christopher Frey and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-06-02 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The expansion of cross-border power transmission infrastructures and the regional integration of electricity markets are accelerating on several continents. The internationalization of trade in electric energy is embedded in an even greater transformation: the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energies and the race to net zero emissions. Against this backdrop, this book provides a comprehensive examination of the regulatory framework that governs the established and newly emerging electricity trading relations. Taking the technical and economic foundations as a starting point and thoroughly examining current developments on four continents, the book provides a global perspective on the state of the art in electricity market integration. in doing so, it focuses on the most relevant issues including transit of electricity, quantitative restrictions, market foreclosure and anti-competitive practices employed by the actors on electricity markets. In turn, the book carefully analyzes the regulatory framework provided by the WTO Agreements, the Energy Charter Treaty and other relevant preferential trade agreements. In its closing section, it moves beyond the applicable legal architecture to make concrete proposals on the future design of global trade rules specifically tailored to the electricity sector, which could provide a more reliable and transparent framework for the multilateral regulation of electricity trade.

Book Electric Power and Energy in China

Download or read book Electric Power and Energy in China written by Zhenya Liu and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-12-31 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The acute energy problems facing China today are characterized by their own histories and realities. Some have come about because of China's energy endowment and stage of development, while others have been created by a combination of domestic and global factors. Some are the results of an accumulation of longstanding contradictions, while others are new challenges posed by the new order. There are no "miracle cures" to solve these problems instantly. What is needed is a tireless enquiry, with goals, planning and procedures, guided by a clear energy strategy. With China's increasing dependence on foreign energy sources, and the global energy situation and greenhouse gas issue exerting an increasingly prohibiting effect on China's energy development, energy diplomacy has become an important component of Chinese diplomatic affairs. Based on a "broad energy outlook", this book studies and analyzes China's energy issues and energy strategies from the perspective of electric power. Discusses a variety of issues, including energy transportation and allocation, end-user consumption, markets, early warning and emergency, technical innovation As a leading player in the power and energy area, China’s strategies attracts global attention Proposes the innovative idea of "Macro Energy Perspective" As a key player in China's energy industrial circle, the author's perspective can help global audiences to understand China's energy strategies better Electric Power and Energy in China is ideal for government energy policy makers, engineers, scientists and enterprise managers to understand China’s strategy in electric power and energy. It is also a good reference for energy economics researchers, consultants and university students.

Book Sharing Economy in Energy Markets

Download or read book Sharing Economy in Energy Markets written by Jianxiao Wang and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-03-18 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims to incorporate an emerging successful business model, i.e., sharing economy, into energy markets, thus digging out the potential merits and applications in multi-energy sectors. With the core idea “access over ownership”, sharing economy enables the collaborative consumption of idle resources through advanced information and communications technology. One critical challenge is to identify different market participants’ occupation while accordingly designing pricing mechanisms. This book begins with an overview about the recent development of sharing economy in energy fields, and summarizes two energy market-related issues that sharing economy can hopefully address. One is how to quantify a marginal generator’s contribution and thereby elicit truthful bidding under information asymmetry condition. The other is how to distinguish renewable and distributed energy resources’ contribution and thus incentivize efficient aggregation considering increasing scale and uncertainty. Then sharing economy mechanisms are proposed and designed from a game theory perspective. On this basis, the following chapters thoroughly investigate the specific problems in spot markets, multi-area markets, renewable energy aggregation and energy systems integration. Additionally, the benefits brought by sharing economy are evaluated in terms of regional market bidding and transmission expansion deferral. Finally, the information and communications technologies related to sharing economy are modeled and analyzed. Hopefully, this book can greatly benefit the readers who are interested in energy economics and engineering.

Book Energy Policy Modeling in the 21st Century

Download or read book Energy Policy Modeling in the 21st Century written by Hassan Qudrat-Ullah and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-10-04 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The roles and applications of various modeling approaches, aimed at improving the usefulness of energy policy models in public decision making, are covered by this book. The development, validation, and applications of system dynamics and agent-based models in service of energy policy design and assessment in the 21st century is a key focus. A number of modeling approaches and models for energy policy, with a particular focus on low-carbon economic development of regions and states are covered. Chapters on system dynamics methodology, model-based theory, fuzzy system dynamics frame-work, and optimization modeling approach are presented, along with several chapters on future research opportunities for the energy policy modeling community. The use of model-based analysis and scenarios in energy policy design and assessment has seen phenomenal growth during the past several decades. In recent years, renewed concerns about climate change and energy security have posed unique modeling challenges. By utilizing the validation techniques and procedures which are effectively demonstrated in these contributions, researchers and practitioners in energy systems domain can increase the appeal and acceptance of their policy models.
