Book The Oxford Handbook of Human Capital

Download or read book The Oxford Handbook of Human Capital written by Alan Burton-Jones and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2012-05-10 with total page 718 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Macroeconomic research on human capital - the stock of human capabilities and knowledge - has been extensively published but to date the literature has lacked a comprehensive analysis of human capital within the organization. The Oxford Handbook of Human Capital has been designed to fill that gap, providing an authoritative, inter-disciplinary, and up to date survey of relevant concepts, research areas, and applications. Specially commissioned contributions from over 40 authors reveal the importance of human capital for contemporary organizations, exploring its conceptual underpinnings, relevance to theories of the firm, implications for organizational effectiveness, interdependencies with other resources, and role in the future economy. Unlike neoclassical macroeconomic concepts of human capital, human capital in organizations is shown to be dynamic and heterogeneous, requiring new theories and management frameworks. The systemic role of human capital is explored, revealing it as the lynchpin of social, structural and other forms of intangible and tangible capital. Connections between human capital and organizational performance are investigated from HR management, procurement, alignment, value appropriation, and accounting perspectives. Links between micro and macro perspectives are provided through analyses of inter firm human capital mobility, national and regional human capital formation regimes and industry employment relations practices. This Handbook is designed for scholars and graduate students of organization and management theory, strategy, entrepreneurship, knowledge and intellectual capital, accounting, IT, HR, IR, economic sociology and cultural studies. For policy makers and practitioners it should provide an up to date guide to the nature and role of human capital in contemporary organizations and the roles that government, industry and other extra firm institutions can play in facilitating its development.

This book was released on 2016-11-25 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bachelor Thesis from the year 2016 in the subject Business economics - Offline Marketing and Online Marketing, , language: English, abstract: This thesis studies the business performance of firms in the food and beverage industry in Sri Lanka by using the market orientation theoretical framework to explain why some firms are more successful than others. It also investigates how firms become more market-oriented and whether there is a significant relationship between market orientation and business performance. Data was collected through a survey using a self-administered questionnaire. A total of 160 questionnaires were sent to top and middle level managers employed in 21 food and beverage companies operating in Sri Lanka. 120 questionnaires were returned, all of which were usable. In a next step, the questionnaires were coded into SPSS version 21 for Pearson Correlation Analysis and Multiple Regression Analysis. The results from this study indicate that market orientation has a positive impact on business performance of organizations operating in the food and beverage industry in Sri Lanka. Moreover, the results reveal that customer orientation has a positive significant impact on business performance. Also, results suggest that the impact of competitor orientation on business performance is positive and significant. Results suggest that inter-functional coordination has a negative significant impact on business performance of organizations operating in the food and beverage industry in Sri Lanka. The results of this study suggest that firms operating in the food and beverage industry should be focused on approaches of customer orientation, competitor orientation and inter-functional coordination activities of organizations in order to be more successful in the prevailing business environment and to achieve high business performance.

Book Market Orientation

Download or read book Market Orientation written by Sandra Fricke and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2007-11 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2001 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: 2,0 (B), Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg (Economics), course: Management Theory, 13 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: Very little attention has been given to organizational processes, such as market orientation. That is one reason why hardly anybody can explain the term. Market orientation means the implementation of the marketing concept and represents a long-term advantage. Because a market orientation is not easily engendered, it may be considered an additional and distinct form of sustainable competitive advantage. In this paper the domain of the market orientation construct will be clarified and a working definition provided.

Book Market Orientation

Download or read book Market Orientation written by Martin Hingley and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2016-05-06 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Marketing orientation is both the key objective of most food producers and their biggest challenge. Connecting food and agricultural production with the changing needs and aspirations of the customer provides the means to ensure competitive advantage, resilience and added value in what you produce. But market orientation is not something that you can just buy in or bolt on to what you do. Market orientation is a matter of changing the culture of your organisation; finding ways of learning more about your customers and understanding their needs; changing your development and reward systems to educate your employees; it may also involve significant changes to your production processes. This comprehensive collection of original research explores the challenges and opportunities associated with market orientation along the food supply chain; from the animal feed industry to meat retailing and from organic foods to old world wines. All the chapters provide exceptional insight into understanding how market orientation can benefit food suppliers and how it is essential for long-term success.
