Download or read book Immigration Policy in the Federal Republic of Germany written by Douglas B. Klusmeyer and published by Berghahn Books. This book was released on 2009-11-01 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: German migration policy now stands at a major crossroad, caught between a fifty-year history of missed opportunities and serious new challenges. Focusing on these new challenges that German policy makers face, the authors, both internationally recognized in this field, use historical argument, theoretical analysis, and empirical evaluation to advance a more nuanced understanding of recent initiatives and the implications of these initiatives. Their approach combines both synthesis and original research in a presentation that is not only accessible to the general educated reader but also addresses the concerns of academic scholars and policy analysts. This important volume offers a comprehensive and critical examination of the history of German migration law and policy from the Federal Republic’s inception in 1949 to the present.
Download or read book Industry and Politics in West Germany written by Peter J. Katzenstein and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2018-08-06 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dynamic technological developments in industrial production, the rise of new social movements in national politics, and great changes in the international political economy have left a deep imprint on the Federal Republic. A compelling explanation of West Germany's success in maintaining economic prosperity and political stability under such challenging conditions has continued to elude observers. Under the editorship of Peter J. Katzenstein, thirteen distinguished scholars from both sides of the Atlantic here provide an original interpretation of the political economy of the Bonn Republic during the forty years since its founding, and explore in particular its extraordinary capacity for accommodating change. Whereas studies in political economy have typically focused on one level of political action—either the shop floor, or national politics, or the international system—this innovative account analyzes the interaction of change at all three levels, bringing together case studies drawn from six manufacturing and service sectors.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Through an examination of election campaign propaganda and various public relations campaigns, reflecting new electioneering techniques borrowed from the United States, this work explores how conservative political and economic groups sought to construct and sell a political meaning of the Social Market Economy and the Economic Miracle in West Germany during the 1950s.The political meaning of economics contributed to conservative electoral success, constructed a new belief in the free market economy within West German society, and provided legitimacy and political stability for the new Federal Republic of Germany.

Download or read book U S and West German Housing Markets written by K. Stahl and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For many years countries have taken advantage of one another's experiences in formulating social policies and even in designing specific interventions. Often such transfers have occurred on a fairly casual level; sometimes greater rigor has been present. In either case, the goal has been to learn from previous experience-at least to avoid repeating the mistakes of the past. In light of the promise that such intercountry transfers hold, it is somewhat surprising that so little energy has gone into careful analytic work on the behavior of households in differing countries and how they respond to various changes, especially those resulting from shifts in public policy. This lack of careful analysis was a major force that motivated The Urban Institute to establish an international studies program in 1982. This volume represents one of the early products of the collaborative efforts that this initiative has spawned. The results of the comparison of the housing markets in West Germany and the United States presented here offer examples of the type of unexpected conclusions that may emerge from careful analyses as well as more anticipated outcomes. Despite the many similarities in the economies of the United States and West Germany and the general free-market orientation of their housing sectors, the papers in this volume document important differences in the way households make decisions about their housing and the consequences of these decisions.

The next sections focus on thermonuclear energy and plasma physics; fission sources and energy production; geophysical energy sources; conversion technology; and environmental aspects of energy conversion and use. Energy transport, transmission, utilization, and conservation are also covered. The final chapter deals with energy systems and other energy-related research on subjects ranging from car sharing and urban passenger transport to nuclear power plants, energy supply and demand models, and high-power molecular lasers. This monograph will be a valuable resource of information for those involved in energy research and development.
