Book Financial Modeling Actuarial Valuation and Solvency in Insurance

Download or read book Financial Modeling Actuarial Valuation and Solvency in Insurance written by Mario V. Wüthrich and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-04 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Risk management for financial institutions is one of the key topics the financial industry has to deal with. The present volume is a mathematically rigorous text on solvency modeling. Currently, there are many new developments in this area in the financial and insurance industry (Basel III and Solvency II), but none of these developments provides a fully consistent and comprehensive framework for the analysis of solvency questions. Merz and Wüthrich combine ideas from financial mathematics (no-arbitrage theory, equivalent martingale measure), actuarial sciences (insurance claims modeling, cash flow valuation) and economic theory (risk aversion, probability distortion) to provide a fully consistent framework. Within this framework they then study solvency questions in incomplete markets, analyze hedging risks, and study asset-and-liability management questions, as well as issues like the limited liability options, dividend to shareholder questions, the role of re-insurance, etc. This work embeds the solvency discussion (and long-term liabilities) into a scientific framework and is intended for researchers as well as practitioners in the financial and actuarial industry, especially those in charge of internal risk management systems. Readers should have a good background in probability theory and statistics, and should be familiar with popular distributions, stochastic processes, martingales, etc.

Book excerpt: This is an indispensible volume for creators, curators, and conservators of installation art. Installation art is an evolving, often ephemeral medium that defies rigid categorization. It has also radically transformed the concepts of space, time, and the experience of art. The conservation field is faced with unique challenges over how best to manage and preserve the essence of these works. How detailed can documentation get? When does the replacement of original components become acceptable? How does the field cope with the obsolescence of certain technologies? By exploring the questions and dilemmas facing those who care for art installations, this book intends to raise awareness and promote discussion about the various conservation approaches for these works.

Book Stochastic Claims Reserving Methods in Insurance

Download or read book Stochastic Claims Reserving Methods in Insurance written by Mario V. Wüthrich and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-04-30 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Claims reserving is central to the insurance industry. Insurance liabilities depend on a number of different risk factors which need to be predicted accurately. This prediction of risk factors and outstanding loss liabilities is the core for pricing insurance products, determining the profitability of an insurance company and for considering the financial strength (solvency) of the company. Following several high-profile company insolvencies, regulatory requirements have moved towards a risk-adjusted basis which has lead to the Solvency II developments. The key focus in the new regime is that financial companies need to analyze adverse developments in their portfolios. Reserving actuaries now have to not only estimate reserves for the outstanding loss liabilities but also to quantify possible shortfalls in these reserves that may lead to potential losses. Such an analysis requires stochastic modeling of loss liability cash flows and it can only be done within a stochastic framework. Therefore stochastic loss liability modeling and quantifying prediction uncertainties has become standard under the new legal framework for the financial industry. This book covers all the mathematical theory and practical guidance needed in order to adhere to these stochastic techniques. Starting with the basic mathematical methods, working right through to the latest developments relevant for practical applications; readers will find out how to estimate total claims reserves while at the same time predicting errors and uncertainty are quantified. Accompanying datasets demonstrate all the techniques, which are easily implemented in a spreadsheet. A practical and essential guide, this book is a must-read in the light of the new solvency requirements for the whole insurance industry.

Book Art of the 20th Century

Download or read book Art of the 20th Century written by Karl Ruhrberg and published by Taschen. This book was released on 2000 with total page 850 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The original edition of this ambitious reference was published in hardcover in 1998, in two oversize volumes (10x13"). This edition combines the two volumes into one; it's paperbound ("flexi-cover"--the paper has a plastic coating), smaller (8x10", and affordable for art book buyers with shallower pockets--none of whom should pass it by. The scope is encyclopedic: half the work (originally the first volume) is devoted to painting; the other half to sculpture, new media, and photography. Chapters are arranged thematically, and each page displays several examples (in color) of work under discussion. The final section, a lexicon of artists, includes a small bandw photo of each artist, as well as biographical information and details of work, writings, and exhibitions. Ruhrberg and the three other authors are veteran art historians, curators, and writers, as is editor Walther. c. Book News Inc.

Download or read book Black garden written by Giorgia von Albertini and published by Scheidegger and Spiess. This book was released on 2017 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Günther Wizemann's series The Black Garden comprises forty-three paintings created between 2003 and 2013. Strongly influenced by the Russian modernists Kazimir Malevich and Aleksander Rodchenko, Wizemann has long mulled the question of what one could possibly paint in the aftermath of the modernists. Italian artist Mario Merz's statement-making installation, Che Fare?, which sought to push the boundaries of art beyond traditional painting and sculpture, has been equally influential on Wizemann's practice. The Black Garden was created as a possible response to these questions. Published as a collection for the first time, the paintings that make up The Black Garden are the result of long artistic processes that involves layering oil and resin to produce an inner and an outer image on the canvas. They are accompanied here by essays that place the series--Wizemann's largest to date--within art historical context and reveal literary connotations along with formal and conceptual relations, ranging from the Renaissance to Wizemann's contemporaries. Wizemann is a fascinating figure on Switzerland's art scene, and this richly illustrated book offers an accessible introduction to his most recent work.

Download or read book Arte Povera written by Robert Lumley and published by Tate. This book was released on 2004 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The term Arte Povera was coined in 1967 by the critic Germano Celant to describe a group of Italian artists making work that used the simplest means to create poetic statements based on events of everyday life. Seen as a reaction against the commercialism of the art market and the dominance of American Minimalist and Pop art, the work demonstrated a keen hunger to explore new materials. In this fully illustrated survey, Robert Lumley provides a concise and highly readable interpretation of Arte Povera informed by extensive interviews with the artists themselves.

Book excerpt: "One looked like a dinosaur. Another one looked like an anteater. Another one a big lizard or a crocodile. They are not just figures or signs among the stars. They are living creatures that move up in the sky. The Universe is full of dinosaurs, kites, lizards and lions, men with arrows and rhinos." So writes Marosia Castaldi in this tender fable, in which the author's words combine with the magical visions of Mario Merz to tell of a world of imagination that can be found inside everyone. Haven't we all looked at the night sky and wondered if someone else was looking at the same stars and constellations, but from the other side?

Book excerpt: "Landlord Colors: On Art, Economy, and Materiality reconsiders periods of economic and social collapse through the lens of artistic innovations and material-driven narratives. It examines five art scenes generated during heightened periods of upheaval: America’s Detroit from the 1967 rebellion to the present; the cultural climate of the Italian avant-garde during the 1960s-1980s; authoritarian-ruled South Korea of the 1970s; Cuba since the collapse of the Soviet Union in the 1990s to the present; and contemporary Greece since the financial crisis of 2009. Featuring more than sixty artists, Landlord Colors is a landmark exhibition, publication, and public art and performance series. While the project unearths microhistories and vernaculars specific to place, it also examines a powerful global dialogue communicated through materiality. Landlord Colors discovers textured and unexpected relationships between these artists whose investigations share themes of ingenuity, resourcefulness, and resistance." -- Cranbrook Art Museum website
