Book excerpt: This carefully crafted ebook: "THE VALOIS TRILOGY: Queen Margot, Chicot de Jester & The Forty-Five Guardsmen" is formatted for your eReader with a functional and detailed table of contents. The Valois Trilogy covers the historical context of French Wars of Religion, during the Valois dynasty. The trilogy contains novels Marguerite de Valois (The Reine Margot), Chicot de Jester (La Dame de Monsoreau) and The Forty-Five Guardsmen. Marguerite de Valois or La Reine Margot is a historical novel set in Paris in August 1572 during the reign of Charles IX. The novel's protagonist is Marguerite de Valois, better known as Margot, daughter of the deceased Henry II and the infamous scheming Catholic power player Catherine de Medici. Chicot de Jester or La Dame de Monsoreau is concerned with fraternal royal strife at the court of Henri III. Tragically caught between the millstones of history are the gallant Count de Bussy and the woman he adores, la Dame de Monsoreau. The action takes place between February and September 1578, six years after the massacre of St. Bartholomew with which La Reine Margot begins. The Forty-Five Guardsmen is the third and final novel of the trilogy of Valois. The action takes place between 1585 and 1586, thirteen years after the massacre of St. Bartholomew. Having succeeded his brother Charles IX, Henry III reigned for ten years without being able to calm the political and religious agitation that delivers the kingdom to factions. Alexandre Dumas, père (1802-1870) was a French writer whose works have been translated into nearly 100 languages and he is one of the most widely read French authors. His most famous works are The Count of Monte Cristo and The Three Musketeers.

Book excerpt: "Marguerite de Valois" is a biographical novel on the French Queen of the same name, written by historian and author Alexander Dumas. Margaret of Valois was a French princess of the Valois dynasty who became Queen of Navarre by marriage to Henry III of Navarre and then also Queen of France at her husband's 1589 accession to the French throne as Henry IV. Her marriage to Henry III had astonished every one, given the raging religious feud among the French nobility. They found it difficult to understand the union of two parties who hated each other so thoroughly as did, at this moment, the Protestant party and the Catholic party, though the reigning King of France, Charles IX, was strongly in favor.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The House of Valois Romances. The Valois were the royal house of France from 1328 to 1589, therefore, many of Dumas romances cover their Reign. Traditionally, the so called "Valois Romances" are the three that portrait the Reign of Queen Marguerite, the last of the Valois (Marguerite de Valois; Chicot the Jester and The Forty-Five). However, another four novels cover the Reign of the Valois, and we have incorporated them to this series: Ascanio, a Romance of Francis I (1515-1547), but the main character is italian artist Benvenuto Cellin; The Two Dianas, about Gabriel, comte de Montgomery, who mortally wounded king Henry II; and was lover to his daughter, Diana de Castro; The Page of the Duke of Savoy, a sequel to the Two Dianas (1846), it covers the struggle for supremacy between the Guises and Catherine de Médicis, the Florentine mother of the last three Valois Kings of France (and wife of Henry II). The main character in this novel is Emmanuel Philibert, Duke of Savoy. The seventh novel is The Horoscope: a romance of the reign of François II (1858), who reigned for only one year (1559-1560)
