Book Consequences of the COVID 19 Pandemic for Evidence based Public Health Measures Fostering Child and Adolescent Mental Health

Download or read book Consequences of the COVID 19 Pandemic for Evidence based Public Health Measures Fostering Child and Adolescent Mental Health written by Stephan Bender and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2024-08-28 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Covid-19 pandemic has had a major impact on infants, children, and adolescents. While the clinical course of SARS-Cov2 is generally mild in young subjects, significant challenges in this age group have been identified regarding mental health. These challenges were associated with social distancing and public health measures employed to limit infection rates. Different countries chose to adopt different public health strategies concerning the extent of social isolation of children, for example, whether and how long schools were closed. Pandemic isolation as a natural experiment allows for assessing the consequences for the psychosocial development and mental health of the next generation. It has become clear that timely research is necessary to guide healthcare and welfare politics to provide adequate surveillance strategies for children and adolescents in order to make a maximum of safe social contact in this context possible. Moreover, the consequences of disease management measures such as social distancing, homeschooling, or mask-wearing for the well-being and mental health of the next generation also need to be quantified. The psychosocial burden on children and adolescents must be addressed and effective measures to return to healthy lives and learn our lesson for future pandemic situations need to be based on solid evidence. Apart from a dimensional assessment of sub-categorical impairments, clinical consequences with respect to categorical mood, anxiety, or eating disorders warrant a thorough examination. Adequate scientific instruments for the monitoring and assessment of psychosocial consequences for children and adolescents need to be provided, addressing both the view of parents and children and adolescents themselves. Finally, apart from safe real-life social contacts, digital technologies, and telemedicine interventions, ranging from videoconference-based psychotherapy to mobile phone apps, need to be further investigated in children and adolescents to provide adequate health care in a pandemic situation.

Download or read book 2020 written by Eric Klinenberg and published by Knopf. This book was released on 2024-02-13 with total page 465 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A meticulously reported, character-driven, unforgettable investigation of a time when nothing was certain and everything was at stake, by the acclaimed sociologist and best-selling author Eric Klinenberg “A gripping, deeply moving account of a signal year in modern history, told through the stories of seven ordinary people. Klinenberg’s narrative shows how the legacy of that year continues to shape us, our politics and our personal lives.”—Siddhartha Mukherjee, Pulitzer Prize-winning author of The Emperor of All Maladies 2020 will go down alongside 1914, 1929, and 1968 as one of the most consequential years in history. This riveting and affecting book is the first attempt to capture the full human experience of that fateful time. At the heart of 2020 are seven vivid profiles of ordinary New Yorkers—including an elementary school principal, a bar manager, a subway custodian, and a local political aide—whose experiences illuminate how Americans, and people across the globe, reckoned with 2020. Through these poignant stories, we revisit our own moments of hope and fear, the profound tragedies and losses in our communities, the mutual aid networks that brought us together, and the social movements that hinted at the possibilities of a better world. Eric Klinenberg vividly captures these stories, casting them against the backdrop of a high-stakes presidential election, a surge of misinformation, rising distrust, and raging protests. We move from the epicenter in New York City to Washington and London, where political leaders made the crisis so much more lethal than it had to be. We bear witness to epidemiological battles in Wuhan and Beijing, along with the initiatives of scientists, citizens, and policy makers in Australia, Japan, and Taiwan, who worked together to save lives. Klinenberg allows us to see 2020—and, ultimately, ourselves—with unprecedented clarity and empathy. His book not only helps us reckon with what we lived through, but also with the challenges we face before the next crisis arrives.

Book The Fatal Breath

    Book Details:
  • Author : David Vincent
  • Publisher : John Wiley & Sons
  • Release : 2023-09-11
  • ISBN : 1509551689
  • Pages : 241 pages

Download or read book The Fatal Breath written by David Vincent and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2023-09-11 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Fatal Breath is the first full-scale history of the Covid-19 pandemic in Britain. Deploying a rich archive of personal testimonies together with a wide range of research reports and official data, it presents a moving and challenging account of the crisis that enveloped Britain (and the world) in the spring of 2020. With sensitivity, care, and an historian’s critical eye, David Vincent places the pandemic in context. While much contemporary commentary has assumed people were forced to develop entirely new ways of living and working during lockdown, Vincent reveals how the population was able to draw upon a wealth of resources and coping strategies already seen over the centuries, often reacting far more quickly and effectively than slow-moving authorities. He tells the stories of doctors’ and nurses’ time on the frontlines, reveals the true extent of supply shortages, conspiracy theories, and vaccine resistance, and explores individuals’ newfound appreciation of nature and community in lockdown. The Fatal Breath will appeal to anyone seeking to reflect on the past few years and how the pandemic has changed Britain – for better and for worse.

Book Covid 19 The Economy and Society

Download or read book Covid 19 The Economy and Society written by Dr. Tapas R. Dash and published by Allied Publishers. This book was released on 2022-01-20 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The current COVID-19 pandemic poses an unprecedented impact on societies and economies around the world. The negative economic shocks intensified by the global pandemic, shutdowns and layoffs, create a devastating effect on the lives and livelihoods of millions. Indeed, over half-a-billion people perished due to the global health crisis. To combat the spread of the virus, governments curtailed the activities of non-essential industries which forced hundreds of millions of workers to get confined to their homes. While the pandemic sparked a global surge in the demand for e-commerce which has pushed many firms to create a digital presence to serve the growing market, the demand for specific sectors such as air transportation, tourism and non-essentials including hospitality and entertainment has vanished. The Cambodian economy, which mostly depends on exports of garments, footwear and textiles; tourism; agriculture; and construction, contracted by 3.1 percent in 2020 (ADB, 2021) due to the global pandemic. As we started to learn about COVID-19 and its impact on public health and economy, CamEd Business School, a leading higher education institution in Cambodia, took the humble initiative to organize an International Research Symposium on November 15, 2020, to highlight—How did a Health Crisis Translate to an Economic Crisis? – The Impact of COVID-19 Pandemic—which resulted in the outcome of this research-based book, COVID-19: The Economy and Society. While the Economy part relates to chapters such as economy, consumer behavior, informal workers, garment sector and logistics, the Society part focuses on education, online learning, creating shared value, civic participation and crowdfunding for social issues. This book is a timely outcome and ideal for academic scholars, industry practitioners and government policymakers.

Book The Changed Life How COVID 19 Affected People s Psychological Well Being Feelings Thoughts Behavior Relations Language and Communication

Download or read book The Changed Life How COVID 19 Affected People s Psychological Well Being Feelings Thoughts Behavior Relations Language and Communication written by Ramona Bongelli and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2023-10-30 with total page 490 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Covid-19 changed the lives of millions of people around the world. The effects of the global pandemic on the physical and psychological health of individuals, as well as on their behavioral habits, relationships, and the way they communicate, do not seem to be only short- or medium-term, but, on the contrary, appear to be long-lasting. In the same way that it is possible to use the term “long-covid” to refer to the long-term effects on the physical health of individuals who have contracted the virus, so we think it is possible to use the expression 'psychological long-covid' to indicate the long-term effects on the psychological health of individuals, not only of those who have been infected, but more generally of all those who have had to cope with social restrictions, lockdowns, distancing, remote work and learning, etc. imposed by the pandemic. At the same time, many people demonstrated resilience, as the capacity to cope with adverse events through positive adaptation.
