Abstract: ABSTRACT This study aims to identify the intended aims and objectives of the new S4-S5 geography curriculum in PSHE KLA and match them with the aims perceived by teachers. It means to find out whether gaps or differences exist between the intended and perceived curricula as well as factors that might have led to such gaps. Data were collected through a combined qualitative and quantitative research study by documentary analysis, semi-structured interviews and questionnaire survey. Morris' four images of education have been used to recognize the change in the trend of geography education. The results were interpreted and analyzed from a synthesized perspective of Lawton, Morris and Fullan. Most informants of this study regarded enquiry learning, promotion of high-order thinking skills, generic skills, geographical skills, student-centered learning and teaching, value-judgment development and China studies as the intended aims of the new S4-S5 geography curriculum. Gaps between intended and perceived geography curricula were revealed in the four areas, namely enquiry learning and examination pressure, China element, geographical skills and curriculum organization. Belief of teachers, students' enquiry ability, availability of teaching materials, timely training provided by the EMB, parallel examination format as reference were perceived as important factors that had led to such gaps. Implications on paradigm shift of teachers' mindset, new assessment format such as School-based assessment and the provision of support materials were conveyed in view of these gaps.
