Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Love and Freedom, Jorge Ferrer proposes a paradigm shift in how romantic relationships are conceptualized, a step forward in the evolution of modern relationships. In the same way that the transgender movement surmounted the gender binary, Ferrer defines how a parallel step can—and should—be taken with the relational style binary. This book offers the first systematic discussion of relationship modes beyond monogamy and polyamory, as well as introduces the notion of “relational freedom” as the capability to choose one’s relational style free from biological, psychological, and sociocultural conditionings. To achieve these goals, Ferrer first discusses a number of critical categories—specifically, monopride/polyphobia, and polypride/monophobia—that mediate the contemporary “mono–poly wars,” that is, the predicament of mutual competition among monogamists and polyamorists. The ideological nature of these “mono–poly wars” is demonstrated through a review of available empirical literature on the psychological health and relationship quality of monogamous and polyamorous individuals and couples. Then, after showing how monogamy and polyamory ultimately reinforce each other, Ferrer articulates three relational pathways to living in-between, through, and beyond the mono/poly binary: fluidity, hybridity, and transcendence. Moving beyond that binary opens a fuzzy, liminal, and multivocal relational space that Ferrer calls novogamy. In this groundbreaking book, readers will learn practical tools to not only transform jealousy, but also enhance their relational freedom while being aware of key issues of diversity and social justice. They will also learn novel criteria to evaluate the success of their intimate relationships, and be introduced to a transformed vision of romantic love beyond both monocentrism and emerging polynormativities.

Book excerpt: Polyamory - The Love Of More Than One Most people think that their only options are to find monogamous love or spend their life alone forever, but the most basic fact about humanity is that we're all different and there are so many different ways to find love and happiness. Polyamory is one of those options, and it can come in many different forms. The world polyamory comes from a combination of the Greek world poly, which means many or several, and the Latin word amor, which means love. In the simplest terms, it is the desire or the practice of sharing intimate relationship with two or more partners, where all of the partners are aware of all of the other partners. This makes it different than cheating, because all of the partners involved remain aware of everything that might affect their dynamic. Everything that happens within the dynamic is ethical, consensual, and responsible. Just because you are open to multiple partners, does not mean that it's open season and you can do whatever you want, with whomever you want. Full communication is essential in a functioning, healthy polyamorous relationship. This book looks at polyamory, polygamy and other forms of multiple partner relationships.

Book Open Thinking in a Closed World

Download or read book Open Thinking in a Closed World written by Melanie Fernandes and published by . This book was released on 2019-09-02 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An insightful yet easy to understand book that looks at alternative relationships and makes sense of the non-monogamous/polyamorous way of life. The quickest way to destroy a relationship is to make it fit into something it is not. Monogamy is a term that humans have used to define their relationships - that we should only be attached to one person for our entire (adult) lives. What if, instead of trying to make our relationships fit outdated and inaccurate models, we took the plunge and opened our minds to the possibility of other relationship styles? What if we admitted that for some people monogamy just doesn't work, and accepted that there are other paths to follow?Having an open mind about many things in life can introduce the possibility of various positive aspects that you never even thought about before, often making life more enjoyable. Instead of seeing the world through a black and white lens, it is like seeing it through a wide range of colors. With chapters that include an understanding of how being single and solo-polyamorous, female and poly and where to begin, this book will help both couples and individuals navigate the world of alternative relationships.
