Book excerpt: The Manx is a medium-sized cat but she is stocky and heavily boned. The Manx can appear larger than she is and fanciers may not realize how heavy she can actually be at maturity. The Manx is a rounded cat with a round head, round eyes, a roundness at the whisker pads, and a round rump. The ears form a rocker shape when viewed from behind. The hind end of the Manx is higher than the front, which is apparent when she is standing. Manx cats are considered one of the oldest types of cat breed in the world. They had been around since 1588 and they originally came from the Isle of Man in the Irish Sea. These cats are also one of the founding breeds when the CFA (Cat Fanciers Association) was established in 1906. They're great longtime companions, and for that, you need some guidance on how to take care of them, raise them and possibly learn how to be like them as well as teach them to be like you! Book excerpt: In spite of their lack of tail, Manx cats have long been valued for their hunting prowess and reputation as sociable and energetic cats. Workcats are endemic to the Isle Of Man, a tiny British island in the Irish Sea that is surrounded by England and Ireland. The cats of this breed are friendly and loyal, and they like spending time with their owners and other members of their household. Due to their love for play and their devotedness to their families, the Manx is sometimes characterized as "dog-like." The Isle of Man, where the Manx was originally found, lends its rounded shape to the creature, which lacks a tail. Even his back is curled up like the rest of his body. If you believe the Manx is just rumpy, you're mistaken. There are also rumpy risers, which may have up to three vertebrae fused together at the end of their spine, as well as longys, who have a tail that's longer than the stump but shorter than a standard cat tail. There is also a longhaired Manx version known as the Cymric, which weighs 7 to 13 pounds, has a thick double coat in a variety of colors or patterns, may live for 13 years or more, and has a lifespan of 12 to 13 years.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Manx cat is a unique breed that is known for not having a tail or having a short tail. The exact place where the Manx cat came from is unknown, but it is thought to have come from the Isle of Man, a small island in the Irish Sea. The unique tail shape of this breed is thought to be the result of a genetic change. - The history of the Manx cat goes back several hundred years. There is evidence that they lived on the Isle of Man as early as the 18th century. People have told stories about this breed of cat. One popular story says that the Manx cat came about when a cat got on Noah's Ark and its tail got caught in the door as it closed. - Despite these stories, more scientific explanations say that the breed's lack of tails is due to a natural genetic change that happened on the Isle of Man. The gene for having a short or no tail is a dominant gene, which means that even a cat with only one copy of the gene can have the trait. It's also possible for this gene to cause problems with the spine, so it's important to breed responsibly to avoid health problems. - People who like cats became familiar with the Manx cat in the early 1900s. In 1920, the Cat Fanciers' Association (CFA) made the breed legal. Over time, breeders have created two main types of Manx cats based on the length of their tails: the rumpie, which has no tail at all, and the stumpie, which has a short tail. By cat show standards, both types are fine. People love Manx cats because they are friendly and playful. They have coats that are different colors and patterns. The breed has become popular all over the world because of how unique it looks and how friendly it is. The Manx cat's history is shrouded in myth, but its unique looks and friendly personality have made it a popular breed among cat lovers.
