Book South Sudan

Download or read book South Sudan written by Kuyok Abol Kuyok and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2015-09-04 with total page 856 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first volume of the Biographical Dictionary of South Sudan, an ongoing research project begun in July 2001. As the subtitle of the book, the Notable Firsts, suggests, this volume is primarily concerned with historically significant South Sudanese personalities, deceased and contemporary alike, and their illustrious careers. Luminaries from all walks of life are featured, including politics, traditional leadership, civil service, academia, and sports. This book has several main aims. Its primary aim is historical. It presents biographical profiles or accounts of the entrants and highlights the accomplishments and contributions of entrants in their respective fields of expertise or in the public sphere. But the aim of this study is not only to preset entrants biographies. It is mostly to place the entries in a broader historical perspective. The biographical dictionary, though concerned about personal accounts of entrants, it discusses pivotal events that shaped the history of South Sudan. The biographies are essentially linked to historical events that shaped or influenced the countrys trajectory throughout the period in question. Central to understanding the history of South Sudan is the biographical information of personalities who have taken part in major events or who have assumed important offices in the country.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is with great honor that I serve as Executive Director of the ISPA. My academic background is in psychology where I have a BA in Psychology from the University of Chicago. My sports background spans over 15 years. From the age of 9 I have competed in quite a few Triathlons and was often the youngest competitor in these races. Over the course of my career, I have completed 4 Ironman Triathlons and 15 Marathons. I have placed in the top three in numerous Triathlons and have won several age group awards. I played varsity baseball in high school as a pitcher. I was recruited to play Division 1 baseball in college, however, my passion for Triathlon won me over and I decided to focus on this and my studies. Sports have always played a major role my life and I feel their effect on me was paramount in my development as a more rounded and confident individual. I strongly believe in the ISPAs mission to raise the level of care athletes receive. I have seen first hand the impact that individuals who work with athletes can have, and it is vitally important that these individuals adhere to the highest ethics and standards of practice in their given fields.

Book Back from the Dead

Download or read book Back from the Dead written by Bill Walton and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2017-03-21 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In February 2008, Bill Walton, after climbing to the top of every mountain he ever tried, suffered a catastrophic spinal collapse--the culmination of a lifetime of injuries--that left him in excruciating, debilitating, and unrelenting pain. Unable to walk, he underwent pioneering surgery and slowly recovered. The ordeal tested Walton to the fullest, but with extraordinary determination and sacrifice, he recovered. Now Bill Walton shares his life story in this remarkable memoir. Walton, the son of parents with no interest in athletics, played basketball in every spare moment. An outstanding player on a great high school team, he only wanted to play for John Wooden at UCLA--and Wooden wanted him. Walton was deeply influenced by the culture of the 1960s, but he respected the thoughtful, rigorous Wooden, who seemed immune to the turmoil of the times. Other than his parents, Wooden would be the greatest influence in Walton's life--the two would speak nearly every day for 43 years until Wooden's death. Throughout a brilliant championship career, accumulating injuries would afflict Walton. He would lose almost two-thirds of his playing time to injury. After his playing days ended, Walton chose a career in broadcasting, despite being a lifelong stutterer--once again he overcame a physical limitation and eventually won multiple broadcasting accolades. Wooden once said that no greatness ever came without sacrifice--nothing better illustrates this notion than Walton's life.--Adapted from dust jacket.
