Book Manuel de m thodologie de recherche en sciences sociales

Download or read book Manuel de m thodologie de recherche en sciences sociales written by FREDERIC ESISO ASIA AMANI and published by Editions L'Harmattan. This book was released on 2023-01-04 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

This book was released on 2023-03-10 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While there are many English books available on academic research methods and philosophy, many complain that they are difficult for budding, non-native English-speaking researchers to use and understand. Rather than hiding behind jargon, writers should describe and define the concepts for the benefit of non-native English speakers. Social Research Methodology and Publishing Results: A Guide to Non-Native English Speakers explains methods commonly used in the field of academic research, provides stimulus to non-native English-speaking researchers for successful implementation of academic research, and meets the need for an appropriate course framework and materials for teaching research methodology. Covering topics such as pragmatism, research design, and empirical modeling, this premier reference source is a dynamic resource for educators and administrators of higher education, pre-service teachers, librarians, teacher educators, non-native English-speaking researchers, and academicians.

Book The Qualimetrics Approach

Download or read book The Qualimetrics Approach written by Henri Savall and published by IAP. This book was released on 2011-06-01 with total page 441 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The impetus for this work emerged from Savall’s belief that there is a doubleloop interaction between social and economic factors in organizations, between behaviors and structures, and between the quality of life in organizations and their economic performance. When managers underestimate this dynamic interaction, the resulting tension ultimately manifests in lowered performance and increased costs, what he refers to as the “hidden costs” of organizational life. Only by delving into the depths of these organizational dynamics can we hope to fully understand – and create the basis for improving – organizational performance. The Qualimetrics Approach presents a different and challenging way of thinking about analyzing organizations, one that draws together quantitative information, financial analysis and qualitative insights into organizational dynamics. As Savall and Zardet argue, to gain a true understanding of what is happening in organizations, intervener-researchers must focus on all three perspectives, as ignoring any one of them will lead to incomplete understandings. Their approach underscores the importance of using qualitative data to validate quantitative depictions (“the numbers”) of organizational performance in understanding the construction of financial statements. The strength of Savall and Zardet’s approach is that it pushes us to go deeper, to fully understand the narratives underlying the numbers and the social construction of our financial assessments.

Book Global Handbook of Health Promotion Research Vol 1

Download or read book Global Handbook of Health Promotion Research Vol 1 written by Louise Potvin and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-05-13 with total page 869 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While research teams are producing relevant and valid knowledge for health promotion, there is not yet a structured manual and distinct field of health promotion research. This timely "state-of-the-art" handbook contributes to the structuring of such a field of research. This collection of original contributions explores the major epistemological, methodological, and ethical challenges facing health promotion research. It brings together experts from different "research traditions" that coexist in the field. The handbook covers the existing knowledge production and sharing practices to delineate the "discipline" and its agenda for future research. Ultimately, it contributes to the creation of a global community of health promotion researchers. The handbook is organized by four types of practices (what people actually do) studied in health promotion; the practices of: Individuals and populations in relation to their health and its determinants Professionals who intervene to improve population health Policy-makers and institutions involved in the advocacy, design, and implementation of policies and programs Researchers and innovators (academic scholars and global agencies) through which investment in research and production of evidence-based guidelines are made. Global Handbook of Health Promotion Research, Vol. 1: Mapping Health Promotion Research is a highly relevant reference tool for researchers and graduate students in health promotion, public health, education and socio-health sciences; practitioners in health, medical, and social sectors; policy-makers; and health research administrators.

Book Deconstructing Doctoral Discourses

Download or read book Deconstructing Doctoral Discourses written by Deborah L. Mulligan and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-01-01 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book identifies and challenges assumptions about the doctorate and the discourses associated with it. The editors and contributors subvert and transform the de facto assumptions that frame the ways in which 'the doctorate' is spoken and written, and thus underpin approaches to planning, conducting and evaluating doctoral research. Giving voice to doctoral students and supervisors, the book opens a pathway for their own stories: why students entered doctoral study, the understandings and experiences they gleaned from it, and the implications for their own character. The book questions what kinds of discourses help to construct contemporary doctoral research, and how these might be de- and reconstructed, and asks what doctoral study might look like in the future. Academics, students and practitioners alike will find an avenue into rigorous research design from reflective and insightful scholars who provide a voice for doctoral strategies for success.

Download or read book The Merging of Knowledge written by International Movement ATD Fourth World. University Research Group and published by University Press of America. This book was released on 2007 with total page 506 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book relates the success of a seemingly impossible challenge: to have a group of academics and people living in persistent poverty conduct research together. What conditions can the knowledge drawn from poverty cross with academic rigor? What type of knowledge does this collaboration result in? This is what The Merging of Knowledge presents in terms of the processes of The Fourth World-University program and the result of its five groups of work: history, family, knowledge, work and human activity, and citizenship. The results featured in this book can be appreciated on many levels. At the level of content, this unique collaboration offers knowledge from the very poor regarding their lives that is neglected or misunderstood in fields as varied as history, family sociology, work sociology, and political science. This "voice of the voiceless" is brought to the book by collaborative writing and is presented with the academics' methodological and epistemological contribution. At the level of gathering and understanding the information collected, the very poor are often given the role as "witnesses" of poverty in interviews. Here, as researchers, they contribute to rigorously examined content that illuminates their situations.

Book Research Methodology in Education and Training

Download or read book Research Methodology in Education and Training written by Carole Daverne-Bailly and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2022-09-21 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a methodological guide intended for those who wish to better understand how to conduct research in the education and training sciences. It is organized into three main parts. The first part deals with postures, emphasizing the idea that engaging in a research process involves taking a different stance from that of a social or professional actor. For example, this may require converting a professional or social question into a research question or reflecting on the use of a social vocabulary in research. The second part concerns practices, that is, how research is conducted: the definition of a research question based on findings, theoretical exploration and problematization, the production of empirical information and its analysis and restitution. The third and final part concludes by focusing on the diversity of research forms; not only research cultures specific to disciplinary fields and approaches, such as action research, collaborative research or research training, but also the design choices in terms of multi-, inter- or trans-disciplinarily.

Book It Goes without Saying

Download or read book It Goes without Saying written by Caroline Boudoux and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2024-06-25 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The definitive toolkit for doctoral students in engineering on thesis—and journal—article preparation, project (and stress) management, IP protection, collaborations, and other aspects of the PhD journey. It shouldn't take a PhD to get a PhD, but sometimes the process can seem that confusing—even though, to the mentors and advisors, so obvious that it goes without saying. For doctoral students in engineering confronting this dilemma, Caroline Boudoux, an accomplished researcher and entrepreneur, provides a demystifying guide to the challenges—daunting, seemingly routine, and at times unexpected—of pursuing a PhD in this demanding field. In It Goes without Saying, Boudoux marshals her own considerable experience mentoring graduate students, teaching doctoral workshops, and—not so long ago—earning her own PhD at MIT to give PhD candidates the know-how, and the confidence, to succeed. Among the topics this book takes up are: What a PhD is: the journey, the milestones, and the endgame. Technical questions about what a doctoral project in engineering is and how to lead one. Practical matters including tips on writing, from proposal to dissertation; ethics; and intellectual property. Personal concerns, such as dealing with expectations, imposter syndrome, and stress. From the mundane to the metaphysical, this user-friendly guide gives the doctoral student in engineering the tools to make it from Day 1 to the successful completion of the PhD in a timely, fully informed, and forward-looking manner.
