Book Manuel Bandeira trovador modernista

Download or read book Manuel Bandeira trovador modernista written by José William CRAVEIRO and published by Ediciones Universidad de Salamanca. This book was released on 2015-12-01 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. ABSTRACT: Although Brazil was discovered in 1500, there have always been echoes of Galician-Portuguese Troubadourism in the country: Iberian songbooks have influenced Brazilian popular literature for many centuries. In general, singers from the northeast region of Brazil and Cordel poets use medieval techniques unconsciously today, as tradition — especially oral tradition — has taught them. In Brazilian Modernism, there was a conscious recovery of medieval themes and techniques. Martins Fontes, Augusto Meyer, Guilherme de Almeida and Manuel Bandeira participated in this movement. This essay aims to explain how Manuel Bandeira wrote three poems with medieval characteristics. Key words: Manuel Bandeira; Brazilian Modernism; Galician-Portuguese Troubadourism; New Troubadourism.

Download or read book Guitar Cultures written by Andy Bennett and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-05-18 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The guitar is one of the most evocative instruments in the world. It features in music as diverse as heavy metal, blues, indie and flamenco, as well as Indian classical music, village music making in Papua New Guinea and carnival in Brazil. This cross-cultural popularity makes it a unique starting point for understanding social interaction and cultural identity. Guitar music can be sexy, soothing, melancholy or manic, but it nearly always brings people together and creates a common ground even if this common ground is often the site of intense social, cultural, economic and political negotiation and contest. This book explores how people use guitars and guitar music in various nations across the world as a musical and symbolic basis for creating identities. In a world where place and space are challenged by the pace of globalization, the guitar provides images, sounds and styles that help define new cultural territories. Guitars play a crucial part in shaping the commercial music industry, educational music programmes, and local community atmosphere. Live or recorded, guitar music and performance, collecting and manufacture sustains a network of varied social exchanges that constitute a distinct cultural milieu.Representing the first sustained analysis of what the guitar means to artists and audiences world-wide, this book demonstrates that this seemingly simple material artefact resonates with meaning as well as music.

Book A Comparative History of Literatures in the Iberian Peninsula

Download or read book A Comparative History of Literatures in the Iberian Peninsula written by Fernando Cabo Aseguinolaza and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 2010-05-26 with total page 766 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Comparative History of Literatures in the Iberian Peninsula is the second comparative history of a new subseries with a regional focus, published by the Coordinating Committee of the International Comparative Literature Association. As its predecessor for East-Central Europe, this two-volume history distances itself from traditional histories built around periods and movements, and explores, from a comparative viewpoint, a space considered to be a powerful symbol of inter-literary relations. Both the geographical pertinence and its symbolic condition are obviously discussed, when not even contested. Written by an international team of researchers who are specialists in the field, this history is the first attempt at applying a comparative approach to the plurilingual and multicultural literatures in the Iberian Peninsula. The aim of comprehensiveness is abandoned in favor of a diverse and extensive array of key issues for a comparative agenda. A Comparative History of Literatures in the Iberian Peninsula undermines the primacy claimed for national and linguistic boundaries, and provides a geo-cultural account of literary inter-systems which cannot otherwise be explained.

The Resisting Muse examines how the forms and aims of social protest music are contingent upon the audience's ability to invest the music with the 'appropriate' political meaning.

Book Latin American Vanguards

Download or read book Latin American Vanguards written by Vicky Unruh and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 1994-12-15 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this first comprehensive study of Latin America's literary vanguards of the 1920s and 1930s, Vicky Unruh explores the movement's provocative and polemic nature. Latin American vanguardism—a precursor to the widely acclaimed work of contemporary Latin American writers—was stimulated by the European avant-garde movements of the World War I era. But as Unruh's wide-ranging study attests, the vanguards of Latin America—emerging from the continent's own historical circumstances—developed a very distinct character and voice. Through manifestos, experimental texts, and ribald public performance, the vanguardists' work intertwined art, culture, and the politics of the day to produce a powerful brand of aesthetic activism, one that sparked an entire rethinking of the meaning of art and culture throughout Latin America.
