Afterwards when one of the party was showing and describing camp pictures, to a young lady, the story of Wilcox was listened to wlith great interest. The young lady theri related a story of two brothers who were students of Michigan University. They had been hunting in Wisconsin a number of years before, one brother staying longer than the other. There they had lost trace of him and had never been able to find him. The father and mother had both recently. Died and the estate could not be settled. She was corresponding with the older brother and would write him, sending the picture and address of our hermit, in hopes that he might be the one. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Manual Training Magazine, 1908, Vol. 9 Those schools which introduce manual training in more than the first year of high school usually introduce it in all four years. There is the greatest difference between the first and second years, because it is customary to introduce it into the first year to give it a trial, and then to extend it into the other grades of the high school. In general, the history of the introduction and extension Of manual training is as fol lows: In most cases it is begun in the eighth grade and gradually ex tended over the preceding grades; where it is begun in the primary, it is introduced throughout the four grades; in The high school it is intro duced for the first time in the first year, and then gradually extended to the later years. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Manual Training High School Annual: May, 1899 Near the cage door was a cultured Wolf, a college-bred Wolf, With a mixture of southern and eastern accents. He liked spice and sting in themes, but did not approve of printing pieces of the aforesaid qualities in school papers. (that is Why this, Which was originally a highly spiked punch, is now a harmless Eitens lemonade.) He was possessed of a great desire to run the affairs of certain organizations of the Little Peacocks. Sometimes when he met them outside the Place, he would forget to speak to them; Which made the Little Peacocks very sad. There were many other animals in the Place - a Bluebird who hovered 'round the cooking rooms was one, and a Fish, whose native element was the Shops, was another. Some the Little Pea cocks liked, and some they didn't, but for four long years the animals were with them in the Place. Ex-peacock, June, '98. Book Manual Training for Common Schools

Download or read book Manual Training for Common Schools written by Eldreth G. Allen and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-09 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Manual Training for Common Schools: An Organized Course in Wood-Working In preparing this book on "Manual Training" the author has attempted to be thorough rather than complete. No attempt has been made to add anything new to the subject-matter, but only to arrange well-known facts so that they will offer as systematic and complete a course of study as is offered in any of the older organized courses. The arrangement of the text as herein presented is the direct result of five years' teaching the subject of wood-working to beginning classes. This class work was preceded by a number of years of shop work as a journeyman machinist and a factory foreman, as well as by a four years' college course in science and engineering. Help in preparing the text has been gleaned from so many fields that it would be impossible to make direct mention of all who have given valuable assistance. The author wishes, however, to acknowledge the aid given by Mr. Charles E. Emmerich, principal of the Indianapolis Manual Training High School, and Mr. Paul W. Covert, head of the manual training department, who have allowed such freedom in the conduct of classes that it has been possible to make all parts of the work measure up to a class-room test. Acknowledgment is due Mr. Otto Stark, head of the art department of the Indianapolis Manual Training High School, for his earnest and careful criticism of the models, drawings, and photographs. This criticism has added much to the value of the text. The final drawings from which the cuts were executed were made by Mr. Edward Stark, of Indianapolis. Book Development of Manual Training in the United States Classic Reprint

Download or read book Development of Manual Training in the United States Classic Reprint written by Hamilton Ross Smith and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-06 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Development of Manual Training, in the United States It is the purpose of this thesis to trace out the development of Manual Training in the United States; to state the causes which were responsible for its introduction; to suggest the benefits derived; and to give some idea of the present trend of educational thought in regard to the subject. Much has been written in recent years about Vocational Education, Industrial Training, Technical Training, Mechanic Arts, and Trade Schools. Discussion of these forms of training does not lie within the scope of this paper, except when they are so interrelated with Manual Training that it is practically impossible to divorce them. Domestic Science is not treated under a separate heading, but is discussed in its relation to Manual Training. Much that is said concerning Manual Training is true, also, of Domestic Science. What Manual Training is to the boys, Domestic Science is to the girls. Much confusion has arisen among the uninitiated because of the different terms used, hence, it is of prime importance that the distinction between Manual Training and the other forms of training be made perfectly clear. A Manual Training course, as outlined at the present time, consists of a graded course in wood, iron, and machinists' work; systematic and continued instruction in free-hand and mechanical drawing, combined with academic studies as co-ordinated departments. It is not the purpose of Manual Training to teach trades, but rather to make the boy familiar with the use of tools. It is disciplinary in that it endeavors to train the hand for the purpose of securing at the same time the training of the mind, through the senses of touch and perception. At the same time the eye is being trained to accurate observation. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
