Book excerpt: Excerpt from Manual of the Maru Language By our boundary arrangements with China the whole of the Maru Country lies within our political frontier, and its direct administration will doubtless have to be undertaken before many years have elapsed. In any case the rapid open ing up of communications within the limits of our present administered territory must lead to increasing intercourse with these frontier tribes. Book A Handbook of Colloquial Japanese Classic Reprint

Download or read book A Handbook of Colloquial Japanese Classic Reprint written by Basil Hall Chamberlain and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-10-02 with total page 588 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Handbook of Colloquial Japanese This edition, though revised with great care, practically reproduces its forerunners of 1888 and 1889. A small quantity of new matter added to the Theoretical Part, or Grammar proper, for complete ness' sake, has been absorbed into the old paragraphs without disturbing their order. Thus, references to the Colloquz'al Handbook in a manual of Japanese writing which the author has in view, will be equally intelligible to students, whichever edition they may happen to possess. In the Practical Part, or Reader, one or two pieces that had lost their interest have been dropped, and a new piece - an extract from the debates in the Imperial Diet - has been substituted. Thanks are due to.many correspondents - some of them personally unknown to the author - for correc tions and suggestions. Similar criticism will always be gratefully received in the future for in the case of a language so exceptionally difficult as Japanese, the utmost that any grammarian, however painstaking, can hope to produce necessarily falls far short of the ideal, and here, if anywhere, the saying holds good that in multitude of counsellors there is safety. Book Hossfeld s Japanese Grammar Vol 1

Download or read book Hossfeld s Japanese Grammar Vol 1 written by Henry J. Weintz and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-05 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Hossfeld's Japanese Grammar, Vol. 1: Comprising a Manual of the Spoken Language in the Roman Character, Together With Dialogues on Several Subjects and Two Vocabularies of Useful Words My object during the compilation of the work has been to include everything of practical utility, and to discard everything superfluous. I have endeavoured to make the definitions clear and precise, that they may be easy of comprehension and readily retained. I have further endeavoured to arrange and distribute the matter, so as to embrace within narrow limits much more information than is generally embodied in a book of its pretensions, and I believe that there is not a useful Rule or Observation in the works of any recognised writer of eminence that is not found in this. Book Handbook of English Japanese Etymology Classic Reprint

Download or read book Handbook of English Japanese Etymology Classic Reprint written by William Imbrie and published by . This book was released on 2016-06-26 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Handbook of English-Japanese Etymology The fact is that the several foundation forms serve various purposes. One who wishes to name them may therefore take his choice. He may select some one marked feature and find in that the name, with however the certainty that it will prove more or less misleading. The only alternative is to content one's self with the simple numerical designations first, second, third, and fourth. To the writer the latter seems the better course: and he would have followed it, but for the desire to keep company with others. He has substituted stem for root because it is somewhat less misleading, and also because it has been adopted by Mr. Aston in the fourth edition of his Gram mar of the Japanese Spoken Language. Book Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions

Download or read book Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions written by Julian P. T. Higgins and published by Wiley. This book was released on 2008-11-24 with total page 672 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Healthcare providers, consumers, researchers and policy makers are inundated with unmanageable amounts of information, including evidence from healthcare research. It has become impossible for all to have the time and resources to find, appraise and interpret this evidence and incorporate it into healthcare decisions. Cochrane Reviews respond to this challenge by identifying, appraising and synthesizing research-based evidence and presenting it in a standardized format, published in The Cochrane Library (www.thecochranelibrary.com). The Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions contains methodological guidance for the preparation and maintenance of Cochrane intervention reviews. Written in a clear and accessible format, it is the essential manual for all those preparing, maintaining and reading Cochrane reviews. Many of the principles and methods described here are appropriate for systematic reviews applied to other types of research and to systematic reviews of interventions undertaken by others. It is hoped therefore that this book will be invaluable to all those who want to understand the role of systematic reviews, critically appraise published reviews or perform reviews themselves.

Today society looks to science to document health choices and the oils do not disappoint. The growing body of evidence of their efficacy for more than just scenting a room underscores the need for production standards, quality control parameters for raw materials and finished products, and well-defined Good Manufacturing Practices. Edited by two renowned experts, the Handbook of Essential Oils covers all aspects of essential oils from chemistry, pharmacology, and biological activity, to production and trade, to uses and regulation. Bringing together significant research and market profiles, this comprehensive handbook provides a much-needed compilation of information related to the development, use, and marketing of essential oils, including their chemistry and biochemistry. A select group of authoritative experts explores the historical, biological, regulatory, and microbial aspects. This reference also covers sources, production, analysis, storage, and transport of oils as well as aromatherapy, pharmacology, toxicology, and metabolism. It includes discussions of biological activity testing, results of antimicrobial and antioxidant tests, and penetration-enhancing activities useful in drug delivery. New information on essential oils may lead to an increased understanding of their multidimensional uses and better, more ecologically friendly production methods. Reflecting the immense developments in scientific knowledge available on essential oils, this book brings multidisciplinary coverage of essential oils into one all-inclusive resource.

Book The Book of Balance and Harmony

Download or read book The Book of Balance and Harmony written by Thomas Cleary and published by North Point Press. This book was released on 1989-08-22 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "If one can be balanced and harmonious in oneself, then the being that is fundamentally so is clear and aware, awake in quietude, accurate in action; thus one can respond to the less changes in the world." The Book of Balance and Harmony is a classic thirteenth-century anthology of Taoist writings, including essays, conversations, poetry, and songs from the School of Complete Reality. The writings combine the essences of Taoism, Buddhism, and Confucianism into an alchemical elixir teaching Vitality, Energy, and Spirit -- the "three treasures" of Taoism that promise mental and physical well-being. This first translation into English of a major text of Taoism is rered and introduced by Thomas Cleary, who has been called the premier translator of Buddhist and Taoist texts. Among his many published works are original translations of monuments of Oriental spirituality, such as The Flower Ornament Scripture, the most sophisticated and comprehensive of primary Buddhist sourcebooks; The Blue Cliff Record, one of the major literary classics of Zen Buddhism; and Understanding Reality, the definitive classic of Taoist spiritual alchemy.

Book Language and Intercultural Communication in the New Era

Download or read book Language and Intercultural Communication in the New Era written by Farzad Sharifian and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-01-04 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Studies of intercultural communication in applied linguistics initially focused on miscommunication, mainly between native and non-native speakers of English. The advent of the twenty-first century has witnessed, however, a revolution in the contexts and contents of intercultural communication; technological advances such as chat rooms, emails, personal weblogs, Facebook, Twitter, mobile text messaging on the one hand, and the accelerated pace of people’s international mobility on the other have given a new meaning to the term 'intercultural communication'. Given the remarkable growth in the prevalence of intercultural communication among people from many cultural backgrounds, and across many contexts and channels, conceptual divides such as 'native/non-native' are now almost irrelevant. This has caused the power attached to English and native speaker-like English to lose much of its automatic domination. Such developments have provided new opportunities, as well as challenges, for the study of intercultural communication and its increasingly complex nature. This book showcases recent studies in the field in a multitude of contexts to enable a collective effort towards advancements in the area.
