Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Manual of Hebrew Syntax By publishing a Dutch Manual of Hebrew Syntax I believe I am corresponding with the wish of many of my countrymen. At least I have heard several com plaints of the want of such a book. I had moreover in my Manual of Hebrew Grammar (edition Joachims thal, Amsterdam 1888) promised to undertake the com posing of a Syntax. As regards the plan I have adopted in my Manual of Syntax I should like to draw attention to the fol lowing points. I need scarcely remark that I have consulted and utilised existing works bearing on the subject. Yet in the treatment of certain chapters I have thought it necessary to work independently for reasons which on comparison would be obvious. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Manual of Hebrew Grammar As in many respects this grammar differs from other grammars, the plan which has been adopted requires a few explanations. Although modern works on Hebrew Grammar have been consulted by me, I did not think it advisable blindly to follow them. Experience has taught me that this would be far from prudent. The greatest scholars sometimes venture to create rules which have no sufiicient basis and even to quote examples which only exist in their imagination. Most curious instances of this could be given. But for what purpose? In spite of a few inaccuracies they remain men who by reason of their learning and hard work are entitled to our respect. I merely wish, therefore, to point out in few words in what particulars this manual follows a more or less independent course, and the motives which have induced me to do so. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Manual Hebrew Grammar for the Use of Beginners The following pages are intended for those only who have read or may hereafter read Hebrew with the author. The lessons and rules, though comparatively few and brief, are, I know, sufficient to give an easy and rapid insight into the general formation of the language. Some years' experience in teaching, and the favorable opinions of those whom I have had the pleasure of teaching, convince me that with proper attention to the following rules under my instruction, (or the instruction of any of my pupils), any one desirous to become acquainted with this language may be enabled in a short time and with little trouble, to read with much pleasure and 'satisfaction; and to use advantageously a larger work on Hebrew Grammar. Book Syntax of the Hebrew Language of the Old Testament Classic Reprint

Download or read book Syntax of the Hebrew Language of the Old Testament Classic Reprint written by Heinrich Ewald and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-18 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Syntax of the Hebrew Language of the Old Testament Ore than one attempt has already been made to lay before the English reader the earlier labours of Ewald in the field of Hebrew Grammar. A complete translation, by Nicholson, of an early edition, was published at London in 1836; but so many changes were made in subsequent editions of the original, both as regards arrangement and extent, that it is long since out of date. A translation of the third edition of Ewald's Introductory Hebrew Grammar was subsequently, made by J. F. Smith, and published at London in 1870 but, though the arrangement of the work is substantially the same as is found in the later editions of the larger grammar, the whole is much too brief to prove satisfactory.
