Book Manual for Kit of Reference Tests for Cognitive Factors

Download or read book Manual for Kit of Reference Tests for Cognitive Factors written by Educational Testing Service and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 123 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The tests in this Kit are suggested for use in factorial studies where representation is desired for any of the following named aptitude or achievement factors: flexibility of closure; speed of closure; associational fluency; expressional fluency; ideational fluency; word fluency; induction; length estimation; associative (rote) memory; mechanical knowledge; memory span; number facility; originality; perceptual speed; general reasoning; semandefinition; syllogistic reasoning; spatial orientation; sensitivity to problems; spatial scanning; verbal comprehension; visualization; figural adaptive flexibility; and semantic spontaneous flexibility. The purpose of the Kit is to provide research workers with a set of tests for defining each of these factor. The use of the Kit tests for this purpose will facilitate interpretation and the confident comparison of one factor study with another. Use of the Kit tests should provide this common ground for the objective comparison of factors. This manual does not provide the usual reliability, norming, validity, or other information ordinarily expected in a test manual. Such information has not been included because these tests are suggested for the single purpose of factorial research.

Book Intelligence and Cognition Contemporary Frames of Reference

Download or read book Intelligence and Cognition Contemporary Frames of Reference written by S.H Irvine and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 462 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Decembe,r, 1984 a NATO-sponsored Advanced Study Institute entitled "Human Asessment:Cognition and Motivation" took place in Athens. It succeeded in attracting a great many of the most eminent scholars and researchers in this area, both as lecturers and participants. The contributors to this book are mostly members of staff who taught at the Institute. The chapters they have written are designed to provide an introduction to the principal issues that arise in the study of the assessment of intelligence and cognition. Since most of the protagonists are represented in this book the student is provided with an excellent overview. Many different people are responsible for preparation of a book such as this. We would like to express particular thanks to Siobhan Breslin and Julie Coleman, who typed the text despite an unfriendly and unreliable word-processing system. Thanks are also due to Steve Gill who helped with the preparation of the figures. Finally, as a mark of respect for his achievements and leadership in the field of mental measurement, we dedicate this volume to Norman Frederiksen. Sidney H. Irvine Stephen E. Book Advancing Human Assessment

Download or read book Advancing Human Assessment written by Randy E. Bennett and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-10-17 with total page 717 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is open access under a CC BY-NC 2.5 license. This book describes the extensive contributions made toward the advancement of human assessment by scientists from one of the world’s leading research institutions, Educational Testing Service. The book’s four major sections detail research and development in measurement and statistics, education policy analysis and evaluation, scientific psychology, and validity. Many of the developments presented have become de-facto standards in educational and psychological measurement, including in item response theory (IRT), linking and equating, differential item functioning (DIF), and educational surveys like the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), the Programme of international Student Assessment (PISA), the Progress of International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS) and the Trends in Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS). In addition to its comprehensive coverage of contributions to the theory and methodology of educational and psychological measurement and statistics, the book gives significant attention to ETS work in cognitive, personality, developmental, and social psychology, and to education policy analysis and program evaluation. The chapter authors are long-standing experts who provide broad coverage and thoughtful insights that build upon decades of experience in research and best practices for measurement, evaluation, scientific psychology, and education policy analysis. Opening with a chapter on the genesis of ETS and closing with a synthesis of the enormously diverse set of contributions made over its 70-year history, the book is a useful resource for all interested in the improvement of human assessment.
