Book excerpt: The Book Block is a manual of industrial binding techniques, the first in the Making a Book collection, which focuses on manuals for graphic book production. With the aim of elevating knowledge about graphic production among designers — helping them to produce better books and communicate more effectively with all those involved in the process — The Book Block brings together the 17 most common industrial binding techniques in 6 categories, exploring each one in detail, describing them and showing what is possible to do in this day and age. Conceived from scratch to be bilingual, in Portuguese and English, the book seeks to systematize Portuguese terminology in the printing industry, while providing the same information in the lingua franca of today’s global market: English. In an international context, with customers, employees and producers sprinkled throughout the world, this book provides the perfect tool for an effective communication. Developed by experienced book designers and bookbinders — Itemzero and Maiadouro — this book is a summary of decades of know-how, now easily made available.

Download or read book Fuzzy Logic Tools Reference manual v1 0 written by Antonio Javier Barragán Piña and published by A. Javier Barragán Piña. This book was released on 2012 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This manual documents the use of Fuzzy Logic Tools (FLT), a C++ framework for storage, analysis and design of fully general multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy control systems, without constraints in the order of either the inputs or the output vectors. This reference manual is intended as a reference work for those developers wishing to use the tools provided by the FLT. Therefore, the text is structured following the typical pattern of reference manuals. Firstly, a general description of the variables, functions, classes, methods and attributes included in the software is presented. Then each of these items is studied in depth. Finally, some examples of using the FLT are included. These functions can be used for the analysis and design of TS-type fuzzy control. With the intention of making our work available to the entire scientific community, FLT is licensed under GPLv3, so you can use it freely if it meets the requirements of such license (see http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.html). Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beginning with the restoration of the Bourbon monarchy in 1875 and ending with the death of General Francisco Franco in 1975, this book explores the intersection of education and nationalism in Spain. Based on a broad range of archival and published sources, including parliamentary and ministerial records, pedagogical treatises and journals, teachers' manuals, memoirs, and a sample of over two hundred primary and secondary school textbooks, the study examines ideological and political conflict among groups of elites seeking to shape popular understanding of national history and identity through the schools, both public and private. A burgeoning literature on European nationalisms has posited that educational systems in general, and an instrumentalized version of national history in particular, have contributed decisively to the articulation and transmission of nationalist ideologies. The Spanish case reveals a different dynamic. In Spain, a chronically weak state, a divided and largely undemocratic political class, and an increasingly polarized social and political climate impeded the construction of an effective system of national education and the emergence of a consensus on the shape and meaning of the Spanish national past. This in turn contributed to one of the most striking features of modern Spanish political and cultural life--the absence of a strong sense of Spanish, as opposed to local or regional, identity. Scholars with interests in modern European cultural politics, processes of state consolidation, nationalism, and the history of education will find this book essential reading.

Download or read book The Regime of Straits in International Law written by Bing Bing Jia and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 1998 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Straits are peripheral formations in the study of geography, but have long been a source of controversy in international relations. They connect separate seas and divide the territory of states. This geographical fact invites legal disputes over international boundary drawing, request forpassage by foreign ships, assertion of territorial control over the waters forming straits, and the basis for a regime generally accepted as law in our times. This is a thorough and well-documented book which combines elements of history, geography, international shipping, and the law of the sea. Itasks the central question: what exactly is the current law governing this area, and also goes on to consider the concept of international straits, the distinction between existing treaty-based regimes and the general regime, and the special characteristics of straits that separate them from similararms of the sea in terms of law. In answering these questions, the author takes us back to the first regime for international straits in 1949, through to the practices of the present day. This will be an invaluable text for all international lawyers, particularly those specializing in the law ofsea.
