Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This inquiry is an undertaking to demonstrate that aesthetic experience in the classical Indian tradition, on its merit, without being subordinated to rituals and practices commonly held under the rubric of religion, is capable of providing a transcendent experience to a prepared aesthete. Dr Dehejia examines the dynamics of two aesthetics processes, that stemming from aesthetic emotion or rasa and aesthetic form or rupa, and cogently underpins them within the advaitic epistemology of Kasmir Saivism. The Advaita of Art, Dr Dehejia argues, is a joyous celebration of affirmation and assertion and not negation.

The sacred arts play an essential, intrinsic role in Tibetan Buddhist practice. Here, one of the great practitioners and master artists of our time presents a guide to the Tibetan Buddhist path, from preliminary practices through enlightenment, from the artist's perspective. With profound wisdom, he shows how visual representations of the sacred in paintings, sculptures, mandalas, and stupas can be an essential support to practice throughout the path. This work, based on the author's landmark Tibetan text, The Path to Liberation, includes basic Buddhist teachings and practices, clearly pointing out the relevance of these for both the sacred artist and the practitioner, along with an overview of the history and iconography of Buddhist art.

Book Mandala Mantra

    Book Details:
  • Author : Surabhi Kuthiala
  • Publisher : Createspace Independent Publishing Platform
  • Release : 2016-03-06
  • ISBN : 9781530349951
  • Pages : 70 pages

Download or read book Mandala Mantra written by Surabhi Kuthiala and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2016-03-06 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inside this book are 30 Hand Made Meditation Mandalas for relaxation, peace and healing. Each Mandala has a Sanskrit mantra with English translation. The mantras have been chosen as per the theme of the Mandala on that page. Back of the page is blank so that the completed Mandala can be taken out and framed. The design of the mandala has been created to be visually appealing so as to absorb the mind in such a way that irritating thoughts are unable to get through and a spiritual essence surrounds the individual observing the mandala, which in turn allows the individual a higher consciousness or awareness, almost as though being hypnotized. This allows the busy mind to take a break while the creative mind is allowed to run free. Having said that, the mandala is primarily used as a form of meditation to gain knowledge from within. It is important to let go of the negative feelings while coloring. If they creep back, simply bring your focus and attention back to the beauty of the mandala. I hope you enjoy coloring these pages as much as I enjoyed creating them.

Book The Art of Communicating

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh, bestselling author of Peace is Every Step and one of the most respected and celebrated religious leaders in the world, delivers a powerful path to happiness through mastering life's most important skill. How do we say what we mean in a way that the other person can really hear? How can we listen with compassion and understanding? Communication fuels the ties that bind, whether in relationships, business, or everyday interactions. Most of us, however, have never been taught the fundamental skills of communication—or how to best represent our true selves. Effective communication is as important to our well-being and happiness as the food we put into our bodies. It can be either healthy (and nourishing) or toxic (and destructive). In this precise and practical guide, Zen master and Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hanh reveals how to listen mindfully and express your fullest and most authentic self. With examples from his work with couples, families, and international conflicts, The Art of Communicating helps us move beyond the perils and frustrations of misrepresentation and misunderstanding to learn the listening and speaking skills that will forever change how we experience and impact the world.

Book Making a Mantra

    Book Details:
  • Author : Ellen Gough
  • Publisher : University of Chicago Press
  • Release : 2021-10-13
  • ISBN : 022676723X
  • Pages : 332 pages

Download or read book Making a Mantra written by Ellen Gough and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2021-10-13 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jainism originated in India and shares some features with Buddhism and Hinduism, but it is a distinct tradition with its own key texts, art, rituals, beliefs, and history. One important way it has often been distinguished from Buddhism and Hinduism is through the highly contested category of Tantra: Jainism, unlike the others, does not contain a tantric path to liberation. But in Making a Mantra, historian of religions Ellen Gough refines and challenges our understanding of Tantra by looking at the development over two millennia of a Jain incantation, or mantra, that evolved from an auspicious invocation in a second-century text into a key component of mendicant initiations and meditations that continue to this day. Typically, Jainism is characterized as a celibate, ascetic path to liberation in which one destroys karma through austerities, while the tantric path to liberation is characterized as embracing the pleasures of the material world, requiring the ritual use of mantras to destroy karma. Gough, however, argues that asceticism and Tantra should not be viewed in opposition to one another. She does so by showing that Jains perform “tantric” rituals of initiation and meditation on mantras and maṇḍalas. Jainism includes kinds of tantric practices, Gough provocatively argues, because tantric practices are a logical extension of the ascetic path to liberation.

Book Music and Mantras

Download or read book Music and Mantras written by Girish and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2016-10-04 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Singing is as human as breathing, and this book tells us why.” —Mark Guarino, contributing music writer, The Guardian Celebrated yogi-musician Girish opens new possibilities for transforming your life through song, combining the ancient art of singing mantra with twenty-first century neuroscience research. For as long as he can remember, Girish has created rhythm to accompany life. His first experience of music as sacred art came in college, playing with jazz bands. “During improvisational sessions,” he recalls, “there were these unexplainable moments of synchronicity and intuition that felt like magic.” This led Girish to an unexpected journey—a seeming detour to live as a monk in an ashram for five years that inadvertently nourished his musical artistry. Here, he studied Sanskrit as a means to understand the deeper meanings of ancient chants, which sparked a life-changing event that led him back to music—and to combine music with Sanskrit chants. Now he shares what he’s learned to help people of all ages, backgrounds, and traditions to transform body, brain, and life through mantra and music. With Music and Mantras, Girish has created an interactive toolkit—including more than ninety minutes of companion audio material—for personal transformation through singing, sharing his own experience as a musician, yogi, and former Hindu monk. Weaving simple, elegant mantras from ancient traditions with neuroscience, Girish shows us how to achieve greater peace of mind, clarity, calm, focus, and even improved health and wealth through the yogic art of chanting—an ideal practice for singing our way to happiness, health, and prosperity.
