This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 765 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is the proceedings of the conference entitled "Manpower Planning and Organization Design" which was held in Stresa, Italy, 20-24 June 1977. The Conference was sponsored by the NATO Scientific Affairs Division and organized jointly through the Special Programs Panels on Human Factors and on Systems Science. Two Conference Directors were appointed with overall responsibilities for the programme and for policy, and they were assisted in their tasks by a small advisory panel consisting of Professor A. Charnes (University of Texas), Professor W.W. Cooper (Carnegie Mellon University, now at Harvard University) and Dr. F.A. Heller (TavistQck Institute of Human Relations). Professor R. Florio of Bergamo kindly agreed to become Administrative Director and, as such, was responsible for all the local arrangements. The Conference Directors were further assisted by "national points of contact" appointed from each of the member countries of NATO. These national representatives played a substantial part in the search for participants and in the collection and trans mission of the various conference communications. Although full details of the national points of contact are included in the Appendices, special tribute must be paid to the UK point of contact, Brian Smith of the Civil Service Department. He very capably shouldered the additional burdens of maintaining conti nuity and resolving problems during the absence in Canada of Don Bryant in the particularly demanding two months preceding the Conference.

Book Human Resource Forecasting and Strategy Development

Download or read book Human Resource Forecasting and Strategy Development written by Manuel London and published by Praeger. This book was released on 1990-09-07 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A collection of original articles by leading practitioners and researchers, this volume examines methods for human resource forecasting and planning to meet the strategic needs of the organization. As the editors note at the outset, changing characteristics of the workforce and new skill demands mean that human resource planning must become an integral part of corporate strategy development and implementation. In order to compete successfully in an era of rapid technological change, organizations must be able to adequately forecast their needs for different types of employees, consider the extent to which current employees have the needed skills, and examine labor force availability. This book describes ways to collect the necessary environmental data and formulate human resource strategies that recognize current and anticipated changes both in the organization and in the environment in which it operates. The volume begins with a discussion of environmental scanning techniques. The contributors demonstrate how to identify environmental trends, including labor force demographics, and how to apply this information to the development of human resource strategies. The second section considers ways to analyze the organization's future human resource needs by examining employee demographics and job attitudes. In Part Three, the contributors describe how organizations formulate human resource strategies in response to environmental trends and organizational goals. The next group of chapters offers examples of the human resource implications of organizational change. This section includes separate chapters on job loss and employee assistance programs and the effects of a corporate merger, as well as two case studies of the relationship between human resource planning and corporate strategic goals. The contributors conclude by describing organizational reactions to changing environments brought about by an aging workforce, work-at-home jobs, new computer and telecommunications technologies, and the increasing cultural diversity of the workforce. Indispensable for human resource managers and corporate planning executives, this book will also be of significant value to researchers and students in human resource and strategic planning programs.

    Book Details:
  • Author : Glenn Wasson Miller
  • Publisher : University Press of Kansas
  • Release : 1978
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 216 pages

Download or read book Metropolitan Wichita written by Glenn Wasson Miller and published by University Press of Kansas. This book was released on 1978 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents a thorough, analytical examination of the city of Wichita. Eight contributors—specialists in political science, urban affairs, sociology, economics, and business—discuss the city's development, current problems, and future potential. They dispel the nineteenth-century cattle town stereotype and reveal a vibrant, progressive city. This informative study provides a wealth of material on Wichita's history, population composition, educational opportunities, labor force, financial structure, industry, commerce, and politics. It will help residents of Wichita gain a deeper understanding of their city, and will give outsiders an in-depth look at Wichita as a place in which to live and work. In addition, as a study of one city's evolution from cow town to regional center, it will be of interest to students of urban development across the nation. "This is a notable document, a contribution to all who are concerned with understanding the metropolitan phenomenon in the modern world. Anyone who examines this thoughtful and restrained presentation will be especially impressed by the scope and depth of treatment of economic and educational forces, and by the interrelations of the local scene with the wider region and the nation. What a challenge this report presents to the citizens and the responsible men and women of power who are fortunate enough to live in Wichita!"—Luther Gulick, Chairman, Board of Trustees, Institute of Public Administration
