Book Manpower Development for New Nuclear Energy Programs

Download or read book Manpower Development for New Nuclear Energy Programs written by Aditi Verma and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 107 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the spring of 2012, nine countries were seriously considering embarking on nuclear energy programs, either having signed contracts with reactor vendors or having made investments for the development of infrastructure for nuclear energy. Several more countries are expected to initiate nuclear energy programs during this decade. The new nuclear power plants that will be built in these countries will require well-trained personnel in numbers sufficient to ensure their safe and efficient operation, maintenance and regulation. The approaches to manpower development of the American, French, Japanese, Korean, Chinese and Indian nuclear industries are described and analyzed. Lead times for the development of education and training infrastructure and for training workers are found to be of the order of several years. This necessitates forecasting manpower requirements and planning ahead. Differences between these countries in their approaches to manpower development are observed. These include differences of job specialization, educational qualifications, and workforce size. Such differences are driven by differences in the structure of the industry, regulatory pressures, historical factors and future expectations. Comparisons are also made between the nuclear, coal, and airline industries in the U.S. These findings have important implications for the institutional design of new nuclear energy programs. Differences in the objectives, expected scale, and pace of development of these programs mean that systems of manpower development need to be tailored to each country. A hierarchy of strategic and implementational decisions informing the creation of manpower development systems for newcomer countries is presented.

Book Manpower for Energy Production

Download or read book Manpower for Energy Production written by and published by Greenwood. This book was released on 1986-11-12 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Manpower analysis and planning for the energy sector is the cornerstone of any successful national energy program. The human resources aspect of energy problems, however, has received little systematic attention. Responding to the need for a comprehensive information source on this important subject, Professor Hosni's bibliography reviews research completed to date and documents the different strategies that have been developed to cope with changing conditions in the energy market. Providing an international perspective, it draws on the literature of the United States and fifty other countries, with particular attention to the Arab world, where both energy and manpower are critical to future development.

Book Development of Training Programs for Operating and Maintenance Personnel in Nuclear Power Generation Systems

Download or read book Development of Training Programs for Operating and Maintenance Personnel in Nuclear Power Generation Systems written by Howard M. Vollmer and published by . This book was released on 1959 with total page 71 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objectives of this study, conducted by Stanford Research Institute for the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission, were to analyze training requirements for operating and maintenance personnel in nuclear power generation systems, to prepare a detailed outline of an introductory training course on nuclear energy and power plant applications, and to prepare general descriptions of more-advanced curricula to meet the training requirements of nuclear power plant personnel. Data on training requirements and programs were collected from major utility companies, agencies, and installations where nuclear power plants are in operation or being planned. It was concluded that definable needs exist for special training of operating and maintenance personnel in nuclear power generation systems.

Book Workforce Planning for New Nuclear Power Programmes

Download or read book Workforce Planning for New Nuclear Power Programmes written by International Atomic Energy Agency and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The nuclear power field, comprising industry, government authorities, regulators, research and development organizations and educational institutions, relies for its continued success on a specialized, highly trained and motivated workforce. The aim of the present publication is to provide information on the use of integrated workforce planning as a tool to effectively develop these resources for the spectrum of organizations that have a stake in nuclear power programmes. It is based on the framework contained in the IAEA publication, Milestones in the Development of a National Infrastructure for Nuclear Power, and addresses the workforce requirements for each of the three phases, focusing on three main organizational entities (NEPIO, regulatory body and operating organization) and their responsibilities in relation to each of the 19 Infrastructure issues. It also includes actual case studies to illustrate how other Member States have implemented or are implementing their first nuclear energy programme."--Provided by publisher.

Book Initiating Nuclear Power Programmes Responsibilities and Capabilities of Owners and Operators

Download or read book Initiating Nuclear Power Programmes Responsibilities and Capabilities of Owners and Operators written by IAEA and published by International Atomic Energy Agency. This book was released on 2020-02-14 with total page 53 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The development of the infrastructure for a nuclear power programme includes the establishment of policies and strategies in areas such as human resource development, nuclear fuel cycle and waste management, industrial involvement and nuclear safety. It also requires the establishment of a legal and regulatory framework that creates an environment enabling the project to be implemented in a transparent and effective manner. These elements of this infrastructure will have an impact on the project and will guide the discussions of the future owner/operator with potential vendors. In this regard, it is important that the owner/operator, if already identified, participates in this process from the beginning. This publication provides information on the establishment and development of the owner/operator so that it can discharge its responsibilities throughout the phases of the programme. It also discusses the management of the interfaces between the owner/operator and other stakeholders.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second edition represents an extensive revision of the ?rst edition, - though the motivation for the book and the intended audiences, as described inthepreviouspreface, remainthesame. Theoveralllengthhasbeenincreased substantially, with revised or expanded discussions of a number of topics, - cluding Yucca Mountain repository plans, new reactor designs, health e?ects of radiation, costs of electricity, and dangers from terrorism and weapons p- liferation. The overall status of nuclear power has changed rather little over the past eight years. Nuclear reactor construction remains at a very low ebb in much of the world, with the exception of Asia, while nuclear power’s share of the electricity supply continues to be about 75% in France and 20% in the United States. However, therearesignsofaheightenedinterestinconsideringpossible nuclear growth. In the late 1990s, the U. S. Department of Energy began new programs to stimulate research and planning for future reactors, and many candidate designs are now contending—at least on paper—to be the next generation leaders. Outside the United States, the commercial development ofthePebbleBedModularReactorisbeingpursuedinSouthAfrica,aFrench- German consortium has won an order from Finlandfor the long-plannedEPR (European Pressurized Water Reactor), and new reactors have been built or planned in Asia. In an unanticipated positive development for nuclear energy, the capacity factor of U. S. reactors has increased dramatically in recent years, and most operating reactors now appear headed for 20-year license renewals.
