Book excerpt: I came to know Jesus November 19, 1969 in a little chapel in Southern Ca. I was a typical Southern Ca. kid trying to live out a Hippie existence and be true to my idealistic ideas of Love one another while the U.S. was at war overseas and had its own culture war going on at home. I was searching for something real, true and peaceful. I found it in the person of Jesus like many others in my generation and the Newspapers called it the Jesus Movement. My life with Jesus and the church had many ups and down, victories and defeats. After many years of feeling defeated I began to get up early and spend quiet, prayerful time listening for His voice. Jesus is faithful, He has been there each morning and Manna From My Journey came out of those mornings with the Lover of My Soul. I pastored a small church in Huntington Beach Ca. for many years and worked with the Orange County Rescue Mission as a counselor, pastor and director of a Discipleship Ranch in Warner Springs Ca. After raising all our children I presently live with my wife Leslie in Anza Ca. Leslie is the gift the Lord sent to show me what a life spent in His presence looks like. We are enjoying life, our children and grandchildren and serving as Assistant Pastor at Calvary Chapel High Country.

Book Manna Stories Journeys Toward the Heart of Jesus Christ

Download or read book Manna Stories Journeys Toward the Heart of Jesus Christ written by B. Z. Eliphaz and published by . This book was released on 2014-12-25 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study edition is specially designed to help persons in prison prepare for freedom and get parole. It is based on the short-story collection Manna Stories. These are old stories about lives made new. A man whose young son tragically suffers. A woman under the death penalty for a crime she didn't commit. A hard-luck lawyer. A woman facing death for adultery. A rich young man who can't sleep for worrying. A man healed long ago, who must now give his testimony to the Roman general who has shattered Jerusalem. These stories are based on the New Testament Gospels. They reverently imagine the lives of people we meet briefly in the Gospels, before and after these people met Jesus. They imagine that meeting with Jesus in more detail. This study-edition is designed for use by persons in prisons. Each of the twelve stories has study-questions. The book also contains a glossary and an appendix of passages from the New Testament that the stories are composed from. There are two essays in this edition that the regular edition does not have. One is an essay intended to make essay-writing easier. The other is an essay with suggestions to increase a person's chances of winning parole. A fundamental idea of Manna Stories is that the Bible is dramatic, interesting, relevant, useful, and life-changing - life-changing like the meetings with Jesus described in the New Testament and re-told in this book. Manna Stories follows the tradition of books like "Barabbus" by Par Lagerkvist, which imagines the back-story and the subsequent life of the robber who was freed from his death sentence when Jesus was crucified instead.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The links between religion and food have been known for centuries, and yet we rarely examine or understand the nature of the relationship between food and spirituality, or food and sin. Drawing on literature, politics, and philosophy as well as theology, this book unlocks the role food has played within religious tradition. A fascinating book tracing the centuries-old links between theology and food, showing religion in a new and intriguing light Draws on examples from different religions: the significance of the apple in the Christian Bible and the eating of bread as the body of Christ; the eating and fasting around Ramadan for Muslims; and how the dietary laws of Judaism are designed to create an awareness of living in the time and space of the Torah Explores ideas from the fields of literature, politics, and philosophy, as well as theology Takes seriously the idea that food matters, and that the many aspects of eating – table fellowship, culinary traditions, the aesthetic, ethical and political dimensions of food – are important and complex, and throw light on both religion and our relationship to food

Download or read book Green Eggs and Manna written by Judith Burkhardt and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2010-04-01 with total page 93 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an easy-read motivational and inspirational book filled with scripture passages. It focuses on the practical, daily application of God´s Word, the Bible, as our daily manna or bread from heaven. Moses spoke to the Israelites as they made ready to cross over the Jordan into the Promised Land. He would not be going with them, so he reminded the people of every good thing that God had taught them and had given to them on their journey. "Man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the LORD." Deuteronomy 8:2 3. Reviews: The two greatest gifts you can give any person is the Word of God and prayer. You did a masterful job with both. I also was impressed with how you presented a synopsis of the Gospel of the birth, life, death, resurrection, and return of Christ, as well as presenting the wrath that awaits those that reject Jesus. Your knowledge of the Word and your love for God and people oozed from every page. Debbie and I both felt that the book was chocked full of the Word of God and the scriptures were used in context to present both your heart and the heart of God toward humanity. It was both simple and profound as are all true presentations of the Gospel. Thank you for your confidence in my life to even ask my opinion and thank you for giving us the book. It once again reminded us of the greatness of our God and His love toward all of us. We hope our comments encourage you to continue to allow God to use your life for His glory. Pastor Rick Clendenon, world-renowned christian speaker

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Life is incredibly busy. From the very moment you wake up, the world tells you to Go! Go! Go! There is always another bill to pay, another errand to run, and "just one more thing" to do. What is often neglected is the most important thing of all: your spiritual growth. So, what if instead of hitting the snooze button one more time, you take a moment to focus on your spiritual journey? Manna for the Morning takes its name from the bread that God provided the Israelites each day--no more than what someone would need for one day. Manna for the Morning contains a devotional for each day of the year--a daily scripture followed by a brief devotional--to provide a daily portion of spiritual nourishment for the day ahead. Whether the daily theme is hope, encouragement, being overwhelmed by the world, strengthening your faith, or advancing your spiritual growth, each day's devotional contains a heartfelt lesson with universal applicability. Pastor and author Riley Pippen presents a thoughtful and reflective compilation of devotionals that will serve as your own personal, daily manna from the Lord. RILEY PIPPEN has devoted much of his adult life leading others on their spiritual journeys through his insightful preaching and teaching. In addition to preaching and teaching, Riley leads impactful mission trips to Honduras, Jamaica, and Mexico. He and his wife, Deborah, lead pilgrimages to the Holy Land, Egypt, and Jordan. Riley is a graduate of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. He has served as pastor in three different churches over the course of 36 years. Riley and Deborah enjoy speaking, traveling, and spending time with their two children and four grandchildren.
