Book Mango Wars the New Battalion

Download or read book Mango Wars the New Battalion written by Hans Yang and published by . This book was released on 2021-06-07 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "At the end of your savagery, what is there, dear Peregrine?" The Raven-possessed Andrew staggered hideously; another surge of energy streamed from the bottom of his heels, to his chest, and then to his fingertips. He held a palm outwards, then finished, "I apologize for believing in such a way, but at the end of your savagery, there-" -he aimed- "-is nothing." It was no small matter. The Battalion meet two warring clans, the last standing in a eternal arena, and are forced to dissolve their allegiances. The allure of unstable power attracts the warriors- the new clans are speckled with supreme beings possessing an ominous force. As winter begins its reign over the realm, the ravens atop the trees begin to feast. An destiny is imposed on the Battalion- one they cannot alter. Or so it seems.

Book New Zealand s Vietnam War

Download or read book New Zealand s Vietnam War written by Ian McGibbon and published by Exisle Publishing. This book was released on 2014-06-18 with total page 706 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This landmark publication provides a comprehensive and authoritative account of New Zealand's involvement in the Vietnam War, and will remain the standard reference work on the subject for decades. Its publication completes the programme of official war histories that began in 1945. Ian McGibbon's primary focus is what New Zealand did in South Vietnam. He traces in detail the operations carried out by New Zealand forces and seeks to illuminate the experience of New Zealand soldiers fighting in a guerrilla war. The command structure, logistic support and operational context of fighting within a primarily Australian framework are all covered. He addresses controversial aspects such as friendly fire incidents, atrocity allegations and veterans' grievances, including over Agent Orange. Maori participation in V Force was substantial and its impact is assessed. Although the book is inevitably weighted towards the military, the efforts of civilians in South Vietnam are also covered in depth. The surgical team operated from 1963 until their evacuation from Qui Nhon just days before North Vietnamese columns entered the city. Not forgotten are the efforts of courageous civilians like Sister Mary Laurence and of Red Cross volunteers to alleviate misery among refugees. The book also describes the dramatic end of New Zealand's involvement in South Vietnam – with the surgical team and the New Zealand Embassy evacuated by RNZAF Bristol Freighters just before the communist victory. Finally, McGibbon surveys the war's troubled aftermath, culminating in the Prime Minister's apology to veterans in 2008.

Book The Fourth Battalion Duke of Connaught s Own Tenth Baluch Regiment in the Great War

Download or read book The Fourth Battalion Duke of Connaught s Own Tenth Baluch Regiment in the Great War written by W. S. Thatcher and published by Andrews UK Limited. This book was released on 2011-12-19 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The part played by Indian soldiers in the Great War is, as the author of this excellent and excitingly written history correctly complains, somewhat under-appreciated. He blames this on the fact that Regular Army officers in Indian Regiments were too few and too over-worked to write down the essntial facts, while the Indians themselves did not write in English. For W. S. Thatcher, a volunteer who joined up at the outbreak of the war ‘for the duration' - his service with the Baluchis remained ‘ the great adventure of my life'. The Baluchis served in Flanders, fighting in the battles of Festubert and Neuve Chapelle and Loos in 1915 before the decision was taken to embark them for East Africa. Here they fought against that elusive guerrilla genius Gen. Von Lettow-Vorbeck, and, as Thatcher writes, ‘They responded magnificently’. He adds bitterly: ‘The East African campaign would have meant very great privation and hardship even if it had been well-organised and run, which it was not. Columns were only too often sent out with inadequate medical equipment, porters even without water bottles. Food was bad. Von Lettow would have managed it better’. Casualties in East Africa were much less than in Flanders, but the regiment was ravaged by dysentery and malaria. The book comes complete with Rolls of Honour; and appendices on awards; organisation of Indian troops; and many maps.

Download or read book America at War written by A. B. Feuer and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2002-07-30 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using previously unpublished diaries, letters, and photographs—plus the writings of war correspondent John T. McCutcheon—Feuer offers a vivid account of America's war in the Philippine Islands during the early part of the 20th century. This story highlights the experiences of the American soldiers, sailors, and marines who participated in the major battles. Not only did they fight a determined enemy, they also battled the weather, the jungle, and the diseases that threatened to take their lives. Their writings, including a section of poems and songs of the era, reveal the thoughts and anxieties of the American fighting man, serving his country nearly 8,000 miles from home. In 1895 Emilio Aguinaldo became the leader of Katipunan, a revolutionary society that sought complete independence from Spain. A year later, his ragtag band of soldiers defeated a Spanish regiment, a victory that incited the Filipino people to rise up against their oppressors. While the Spanish ultimately paid Aguinaldo to enter voluntary exile, in 1898, after the sinking of the ^IMaine^R, the United States would promise independence for the islands in exchange for Aguinaldo's return to lead an uprising against Spain. The U.S. State Department would later repudiate this promise, a move that would embroil United States troops in a bloody struggle to subdue the islands. This is their story.
