Book Manganese Aluminum for Permanent Magnet Material

Download or read book Manganese Aluminum for Permanent Magnet Material written by M. A. Bohlmann and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Manganese-aluminum alloys with 68-73% Mn were developed for permanent magnet material. Best magnetic properties were obtained in 71% Mn alloys. Maximum energy product was 4.0 x 10 to the 6th power GOe, reached by homogenization, controlled quenching, reducing area 86% by swaging in jackets, and annealing. Process parameters were studied to fine the optima for the brittle alloy. Deformation of the alloy produces a preferred magnetic axis and raises coercive force. Swaging was best, but deforming by turning cast bars into chips on a lathe gave the best ''particle'' magnets and was easiest. A review of the crystal and magnetic structures leads to the deduction that dislocation lines involve Mn atoms arranged antiferromagnetically which subdivide larger ferromagnetic regions. The magnetic saturation is not reached in practical magnetizing field. The magnetic induction decreases with increasing temperatures to Curie point.

Book excerpt: REACT Project: Dartmouth is developing specialized alloys with magnetic properties superior to the rare earths used in today's best magnets. EVs and renewable power generators typically use rare earths to turn the axles in their electric motors due to the magnetic strength of these minerals. However, rare earths are difficult and expensive to refine. Dartmouth will swap rare earths for a manganese-aluminum alloy that could demonstrate better performance and cost significantly less. The ultimate goal of this project is to develop an easily scalable process that enables the widespread use of low-cost and abundant materials for the magnets used in EVs and renewable power generators.

Book Manganese Based Magnets

Download or read book Manganese Based Magnets written by and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: REACT Project: PNNL is working to reduce the cost of wind turbines and EVs by developing a manganese-based nano-composite magnet that could serve as an inexpensive alternative to rare-earth-based magnets. The manganese composite, made from low-cost and abundant materials, could exceed the performance of today's most powerful commercial magnets at temperature higher than 200°C. Members of PNNL's research team will leverage comprehensive computer high-performance supercomputer modeling and materials testing to meet this objective. Manganese-based magnets could withstand higher temperatures than their rare earth predecessors and potentially reduce the need for any expensive, bulky engine cooling systems for the motor and generator. This would further contribute to cost savings for both EVs and wind turbines.

Book Mixed ligand Strategy for the Preparation of Manganese Based Single molecule Magnets

Download or read book Mixed ligand Strategy for the Preparation of Manganese Based Single molecule Magnets written by Malgorzata Habrych and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ABSTRACT: The interest in 3d metal chemistry has been steadily increasing over the last several years, as it has become apparent that this area represents a rich source of high nuclearity products with interesting structural, spectroscopic and magnetic properties. Manganese clusters are important for their biological relevance to Mn-containing proteins and enzymes and because they often display large spin ground states. This property, combined with a large anisotropy, has led to the characterization of a number of Mn clusters as single-molecule magnets (SMMs) below critical temperature.

Book Magnetic Susceptibilities of Dilute Alloys of Manganese and Iron in Magnesium and Aluminum

Download or read book Magnetic Susceptibilities of Dilute Alloys of Manganese and Iron in Magnesium and Aluminum written by Mireille Treuil and published by . This book was released on 1960 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ionic and electronic contributions to the total magnetic susceptibility of a non ferromagnetic metal alloy are discussed, and a review of the experimental techniques for measuring susceptibilities is given. The presence of even small amounts of ferromagnetic impurities can have disastrous effects on the measured susceptibilities, and a method is described for correcting for such impurities when the Gouy method is used. This enabled the true susceptibility of the non ferromagnetic part of a substance to be determined with an accuracy of .1% relative to Ge. The room temperature values of magnetic susceptibility of the dilute alloys of Mn and Fe in Mg and Al were measured in view of obtaining information about the electronic configuration of the transition elements in solution. A localized d electron picture rather than a d band picture was found to be adequate. The measured effective Bohr magneton numbers yielded two possible electronic configurations for the solute atoms. The possibility of distinguishing between these is discussed in terms of the corresponding change in population of the conduction band and its influence on the electronic susceptibility.

Book Bibliography of Magnetic Materials and Tabulation of Magnetic Transition Temperatures

Download or read book Bibliography of Magnetic Materials and Tabulation of Magnetic Transition Temperatures written by T. F. Connolly and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This referenced compilation of magnetic transition temperatures represents (with the Addendum) papers actually received by the RMIC through May 1972 and consists of two lists (alphabetical by compounds), one for Curie and one for Neel temperatures. Where different values appeared in the literature for a single compound, all are listed with sepa rate references given for each. There is no attempt at critical evaluation, which, except for a few welt-studied and well characterized materials, would hardly be worth the effort. All that one can say for most of the compounds is that for a given material with a certain (or all too often uncertain) history of preparati'on and treatment, stoichiometry, homoge neity, and chemical or structural purity a magnetic transition was indicated at the temperature(s) listed. Only when the reasons for different values are explicitly stated in the literature do they appear as brief comments in the body of the lists. In order to include the most recent data, and to eliminate the delay involved in recomposition of the lists, an addendum is provided. While this requires the perusal of two lists rather than one, it does ensure that the compilation represents the entire RMIC collection at the moment of going to press. The 2478 references are restricted to those papers specifying a Curie or Neel temperature and do not reflect the complete magnetics literature even for the materials listed.
