Book Managing Rheumatoid Arthritis Question and Answer Volume 7

This book was released on 2021-10-01 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The seventh volume of the book series focuses on the use of tofacitinib for managing rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The book may serve as a clinical guide to assist healthcare professionals for using the drug safely and effectively, thereby to improve the prescription practice. In the past one decade, tofacitinib has emerged as a potent target synthetic (ts) DMARD for managing RA. The availability of the generic form in global markets has improved its accessibility and clinical use. The drug though very effective in the management of RA, has narrow therapeutic to toxicity ratio. The drug needs to be prescribed with caution. There are set guidelines and pre-introduction evaluation of the drug for safety and probable adverse events. The guidelines and recommendations provided in this book may help to clarify the uncertainties related to tofacitinib prescription. To improve the patient’s compliance, it is critical that the physician provides all the necessary information to the patient. Additionally, the clinician should have thorough knowledge on managing special circumstances, including drug-related complications. The content includes a brief introduction of the drug, followed by questions and answers explaining different clinical scenarios. The author has attempted to address almost all plausible clinical scenarios involved in the RA management using tofacitinib.

Book Perioperative Management of Patients with Rheumatic Disease

Download or read book Perioperative Management of Patients with Rheumatic Disease written by Brian F. Mandell and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-07-17 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Perioperative care of the patient with a multisystem inflammatory (rheumatic) disease has become increasingly complex and perioperative medicine has evolved into its own subspecialty. Physicians who have expertise in managing patients with rheumatic disease infrequently spend significant time also managing patients undergoing surgical procedures, and the reverse is equally true. Despite the burgeoning literature on the medical management of the surgical patient, scant data have been generated regarding patients with complex rheumatic disease. Perioperative Management of Patients with Rheumatic Disease fills a conspicuous gap in the literature and aims at providing a paved path for rheumatologists--who infrequently manage surgical problems--and medical consultants--who only seldom encounter patients with rheumatic diseases--to tread as they care for patients in the perioperative period. The book addresses discrete management issues from the perspective of the medical subspecialist and also offers concise descriptions of surgical procedures. Written from the surgical perspective for the internist, the surgical procedure chapters include a brief description of relative contraindications, time to recovery, rehabilitation suggestions, and comments regarding common and severe procedure specific postoperative complications.
