Book Extractive Industries and Ape Conservation

Download or read book Extractive Industries and Ape Conservation written by Arcus Foundation and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2014-03-27 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Current dominant thinking and practice in the private and public sectors asserts that peoples' development needs are in conflict with, or mutually exclusive to, the need to conserve the biosphere on which we depend. Consequently, we are asked to either diminish development in the name of conservation or diminish conservation in the name of development. Efforts to identify complementary objectives, or mutually acceptable trade-offs and compromises indicate, however, that this does not always have to be the case. This first volume in the State of the Apes series draws attention to the evolving context within which great ape and gibbon habitats are increasingly interfacing with extractive industries. Intended for a broad range of policy makers, industry experts, decision makers, academics, researchers and NGOs, these publications aim to influence debate, practice and policy, seeking to reconcile ape conservation and welfare, and economic and social development, through objective and rigorous analysis.

Book Sustainable Extractive Sector Management

Download or read book Sustainable Extractive Sector Management written by Zik Igbadi Boniwe and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2018-02-24 with total page 494 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The planet earth is fortified with abundant natural resources such as land and its contents, air with its constituent elements, and water with both living and nonliving things. These natural resources create a system of ecosystem regeneration for sustainability. Through history, humanity has depended on these natural resources for sustenance. Extractive companies involved in harnessing these natural resources for the benefit of humanity have advanced technological adeptness that has steered toward massive exploration, exploitation, processing, usage, and disposal of these resources. The associated activities of natural resources development have improved and also negatively impacted quality of life from the prehistoric age to modern industrial society. No doubt, the extractive sector has positively contributed to technological advancement and improved education, incomes, and access to health care, which hold ever-greater promise for longer, healthier, more secure lives both in developed and some developing countries. However, there is also a widespread sense of instability in the world today from the activities of the extractive companies in livelihoods, in personal security, in the environment, and in global politics in almost all the developing countries where the extractive industries operate. Sustainable Extractive Sector Management: Issues and Prospects delves into both the positive and negative impacts of the extractive sector on the governments, the extractive companies and the hosts, and impacted communities by taking a comprehensive look at the conflicts that encumber sustainable extractive sector management. It enunciates the critical issues that need to be addressed or reversed with implementation strategies. This will avert continuous disruptions of extractive industries operations and improve quality of lives of all stakeholders to ensure sustainable socioeconomic development through mutual collaboration of key stakeholder groups.

Book Responsible Management Accounting and Controlling

Download or read book Responsible Management Accounting and Controlling written by Daniel A. Ette and published by Business Expert Press. This book was released on 2014-12-08 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sustainability is becoming a business megatrend. This book looks into why controlling departments are rarely involved in sustainability topics and do not contribute to corporate responsibility. The author postulates the following assertion: responsible controlling is indispensable in making an organization more responsible. Inside, you’ll learn a specific course of action for the development of a responsible controlling framework toward decision making, which is based on an ethically driven, reflective fundament in order to make a company a responsible business. Through the development of a responsible controlling framework, the author gives recommendations for how controlling should be altered in terms of both tools and mindsets. A twelve-step responsible controlling roadmap is detailed, showing how controlling can contribute to foster a corporation’s responsible behavior and how sustainability topics can be integrated in management decisions. The conclusion of Responsible Management Accounting and Controlling reiterates the main goal of this book: responsible controlling must first and foremost be understood as a mindset. Responsible controlling, therefore, is an uncommon but indispensable approach of making an organization more responsible.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper presents 2019 Article IV Consultation with Gabon and its Fourth and Fifth Reviews Under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF), and Request for Waiver for NonObservance of Performance Criteria, and Rephasing of the Remaining Purchases. Gabon’s performance under the program supported by the IMF’s EFF Arrangement has been broadly satisfactory. Macroeconomic conditions have continued to improve, with growth slowly picking-up, fiscal and external positions improving, and public debt declining. Going forward, bold and ambitious reforms are needed to generate higher, more inclusive, and resilient growth. Sustained implementation of structural reforms is critical. Efforts to close infrastructure gaps, improve human capital, deepen financial intermediation, clear domestic arrears, and enhance governance and anticorruption measures are necessary to improve the business climate and achieve higher and inclusive growth. Efforts should continue to further boost domestic revenue and contain nonpriority spending, while protecting investment and enhancing social protection. Improving public finance management and the efficiency of public investment is also important for growth prospects.
