Book Management Training Program Case Study in the Lebanese Banking Sector

Download or read book Management Training Program Case Study in the Lebanese Banking Sector written by Siwar Zein and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Due to the instability of the contemporary business environment, numerous critics have referred to changes in the area of employment and careers. The overriding framework of many contemporary theories on career management has been a hypothesized move from the 'Traditional' career to the 'New' career notion where a person is no longer confined to one organization and one career path. The financial sector is in the midst of this turbulent changing environment. Organizations in general, and banks in specific, need managers and high-calibre qualified employees who are able to respond to the environmental challenges and have consequently resorted to Graduate Management Training Programs to ensure the fulfilment of this need. The aim of this study is to add to the literature on career management in the financial sector by looking at the GMTP in the Lebanese banking sector. The evidence suggests that overall for the last 10 to 15 years there seems to be limited evidence of a new CM model with a prevalent widespread adherence to traditional CM. This research investigates the expectations, experiences and outcomes of graduate trainees in a GMTP at BLOM bank, one of the largest banks in Lebanon. It also investigates and discusses HR practices used throughout the program to assess whether the desired levels of motivation, job satisfaction, and employee retention are being achieved. The research reveals that although the GMTP can be rated as successful, post program career management is just as important to ensure employee retention. The research methods adopted are outlined and potentially fertile research opportunities, implications and study limitations are presented.

Book Leadership and Change Management

Download or read book Leadership and Change Management written by Daphne Halkias and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2017-03-16 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A leader’s role in the management of change is a critical issue for successful outcomes of strategic initiatives. Globalization and economic instability have prompted an increase in organizational changes related to downsizing and restructuring in order to improve financial performance and organizational competitiveness. Researchers agree that a leader’s inability to fully understand what is needed in order to guide their organization through successful change can be a reason for failure. Proper planning and management of change can reduce the likelihood of failure, promote change effectiveness, and increase employee engagement. Yet, change in organizations must be viewed as a continuous activity that affects both organizational and individual outcomes. If change management can be considered as an event induced by socio-cultural factors, the cultural variable gains greater significance when applied to the quality of the relationship between a leader and their team. Many organizations today are on the verge of internationalization. It is here that the cultural context can affect behaviors and, in the same way, leadership style. The research presented in this book by an eminent group of scholars explores the influence of culture – ethnic, regional, religious – on how leaders manage change within organizations.

Book Corporate Real Estate Asset Management

Download or read book Corporate Real Estate Asset Management written by Abir Riad Takieddine and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The investigation revealed that the degree of conformance of the six cases' practices to the framework varied according to banks. Two of the cases presented high levels of conformity to the framework; one case presented absolute divergence, and the practices of the remaining three cases partially conformed to the framework. Thus, some banks engage more actively in managing their real estate as active assets than others do through integrating their real estate operations to their business strategy. An alternative explanation to the banks* behavior could be that all banks in Lebanon have not reached yet the same level of maturity regarding corporate real estate asset management practices because CREAM theory is still at its infancy stages in Lebanon.

Book Training Civil Servants

Download or read book Training Civil Servants written by Samar Bakr Dabbous and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Training is highly needed in public bureaucracies where the public sector is subject to continuous technological, demographic, and economic changes. The needs seem to be greater in developing countries where public bureaucracies have to fulfill the needs of the citizens and accelerate the process of development.--In Lebanon training civil servants which is traditionally conducted by the National Institute of Administration and Development (NIAD) is general, theoretical, and not targeted to the specific needs of each ministry. Because of these limitations the need for alternative specialized institutes arises.--In the Ministry of Finance, the Finance Institute was established and entrusted with the role of training employees of the ministry. Founded in 1996 with the contribution of various donors the Finance Institute trains employees of the Ministry of Finance in all categories. Since its establishment the Finance Institute has trained 70 % of the employees of the ministry. Recently the number of civil servants trained by the institute reached 5433.--The objective of the thesis is to study the role and contributions of the Finance Institute as a specialized training institute. The case of the Finance Institute will show the advantages of applying specialized training in Lebanon. The thesis presents training, its objectives and methods, as well as training in some developed countries including Lebanon in relation to general and specialized training in a comparative perspective.

Book The Corporate Governance in the Lebanese Banking Sector

Download or read book The Corporate Governance in the Lebanese Banking Sector written by Michel Youssef Farah and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A corporate governance system covers all the mechanisms that govern the conduct of directors and manages their relations with shareholders. There were important corporate failures that have occurred in recent years worldwide, especially when it comes to organizations of large size, and banks. All this will lead to questions about the effectiveness of corporate governance systems. The managers are the representatives of shareholders, and as their interests diverge from those of shareholders, ·they need -to be-subject to control systems to manage their actions -in accordance with the interests of the latter. If these control systems are operating effectively, the company will be successful and vice versa. Adopting good governance practices will increase the value of the firm; increase its credibility and reputation. In the banking industry in Lebanon, the corporate governance reveals those laws, while protecting shareholder interests, bank interests and sound economics. Banks are to balance profits with regulatory requirements and sound economics so as to be successful and to obtain managerial practices that can be considered adequate in representing the shareholders, allowing for monitoring, minority control and compliance with legal procedures. The object of this piece of work is to present a general and comprehensible explanation about corporate governance, and to discuss its relation with the banking sector. Although there will be some differences between the applied policies and procedures at Standard Chartered Bank Sal and the local regulator's requirements, it will be obvious by the end of this thesis, that the bank is satisfying both the Group and the Central Bank's requirements, and that the model adopted by the bank is a good example to be implemented by the banks that wish to expand outside the Lebanese market, and to do business in accordance with International Accords such as BASEL II.
