Book The Indian Mesozoic Chronicle

Download or read book The Indian Mesozoic Chronicle written by Jai Krishna and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-03-11 with total page 748 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book reviews and summarizes the Indian Mesozoic geological evolution in an innovative alternative perspective of sequence stratigraphy. It mainly focuses on the Jurassic interval, but also concisely discusses the preceding Triassic and Cretaceous geological records. The key to the study is primarily held in the recently developed ammonoid based high resolution scales in the Triassic and Jurassic period. The Indian Jurassic record is thus elevated to a high resolution pedestal. The large intra-Jurassic stratigraphic gap in Kachchh, with increase in duration from margin to basin, has been précised in different sections, along with radical revision of its long held interpretation from sub-aerial to sub-marine all over from Arabia to Australia. Other significant gaps are also differentiated into sub-aerial and sub-marine. The Indian Late Precambrian – Neogene record is organized into five mega-sequences. Among these, the fourth – also the most important one – includes the intra-Permian to Early Eocene interval from the origin to the closure of the Neotethys. Based on multidisciplinary integration of the Indian Mesozoic geological record and comparison with hydrocarbon producing basins on east and west of India, a highly positive scenario of the hydrocarbon source/reservoir sediment perspective is outlined in the book in sequence stratigraphic backdrop as an edifice for future elaborate evaluation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “To follow the journeys made by Mackay and Evans up the Missouri and across the plains in 1795–97 is to begin to appreciate the kind of world Lewis and Clark found when they voyaged up the river in 1804. . . . Of all those waterways, none has captured the American imagination more than the Missouri. . . . It is a river of promise, of dreams, and of dreams denied.” –James P. Ronda, from the Foreword When Mackay and Evans returned to Spanish St. Louis in 1797, they were hailed as “the two most illustrious travelers in the northern parts of this continent.” Ironically, though the findings of Mackay and Evans were responsible for much of the early success of Lewis and Clark in their expedition, the adulation that followed Lewis and Clark’s successful return completely eclipsed Mackay and Evans’s reputations. In Prologue to Lewis and Clark, W. Raymond Wood narrates the history of this long-forgotten but important expedition up the Missouri River. The Mackay and Evans expedition was more than an exploratory mission. It was the last effort by Spain to gain control over the Missouri River basin in the decade before the United States purchased the Louisiana territory. In that respect, it failed. But the expedition was successful as a journey of exploration. The maps and documents they created later provided the Lewis and Clark expedition with invaluable information for its first full year. Consolidating a collection of eighteen contemporary documents relating to the Mackay and Evans expedition as well as his own research and analysis, Wood provides an in-depth examination of the expedition’s background, execution, and final results. Book Geomorphological Landscapes of the World

Download or read book Geomorphological Landscapes of the World written by Piotr Migon and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-01-22 with total page 371 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Physical landscapes are one of the most fascinating facets of our Planet, which tell stories about the evolution of the surface of the Earth. This book provides up-to-date information about the geomorphology of the selected ‘classic’ sites from around the world and shows the variety of geomorphological landscapes as moulded by different sets of processes acting over different timescales, from millions of years to days. The volume is written by nearly fifty geomorphologists from more than twenty countries who for many years have researched some of the unique sceneries on the planet. The thirty six chapters present each continent of the world. They describe landscapes of different origin, so that the reader can learn about the complexity of processes behind the sceneries. This is a useful reference book, linking geomorphology with global initiatives focused on nature conservation.

Book Lewis Clark and the Indian Country

Download or read book Lewis Clark and the Indian Country written by Frederick E. Hoxie and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Lewis and Clark and the Indian Country" broadens the scope of conventional study of the Lewis and Clark expedition to include Native American perspectives. Frederick E. Hoxie and Jay T. Nelson present the expedition s long-term impact on the Indian Country and its residents through compelling interviews conducted with Native Americans over the past two centuries, secondary literature, Lewis and Clark travel journals, and other primary sources from the Newberry Library s exhibit Lewis and Clark and the Indian Country. Rich stories of Native Americans, travelers, ranchers, Columbia River fur traders, teachers, and missionaries often in conflict with each other--illustrate complex interactions between settlers and tribal people. Environmental protection issues and the preservation of Native language, education, and culture dominate late twentieth-century discussions, while early accounts document important Native American alliances with Lewis and Clark. In widening the reader s interpretive lens to include many perspectives, this collection reaches beyond individual achievement to appreciate America s plural past."

Book excerpt: A GAME OF CAT AND MOUSE SPANNING THOUSANDS OF YEARS IS SUDDENLY COMING TO A HEAD!LEGACY OF THE WATCHERS (the series)Thousands of years ago, something came out of the sky that changed the course of human history. Testimonies abound of these 'angels' and their hybrid offspring, the 'Nephilim' giants. These mighty 'gods' quickly rose to power, and the ancient world came alive with industry and culture. Many consider this period in history to be the 'dawn' of our civilization. People who lived as hunters and gatherers for hundreds of thousands of years suddenly began settling in one place, cultivating the land and even governing themselves. They invented irrigation, the wheel, protective armor and algebra. They somehow acquired knowledge of our solar system that even modern technology wasn't able to confirm until the 1970s. Most importantly, they began to read and write. Yet an undercurrent of terror was spreading like wildfire, carrying whispers of 'djinn,' 'daeva' and 'demons.'The Watchers were supposed to do just that: watch. But humankind proved far too tempting and they 'fell' to earth, taking wives for themselves and even having children. But their children grew into unruly giants whose souls didn't ascend like human souls, but remained here, on this earth. These errant Nephilim souls haunt the earth to this day. They are the 'djinn,' the 'hidden ones,' also known as 'daeva' and 'demon.' They have one purpose--to live. But to live they need bodies. This chain of events has now reached the point where the djinn need more than just our bodies to survive. They must take back control of the earth, just as in the days when they ruled as gods.POWER OF GODS, Vol. 2After the events of the first installment of the Legacy of the Watchers, Nadia Adeire now finds herself inextricably tied to the Raphaelians, that secret society dating back to the Essenes. Her former life—and all that she previously believed in—has been shattered, and she needs their help to pick up the pieces and start again. As the Legacy of the Watchers continues, Nadia is once again drawn into the mysterious underworld of the hidden ones, but this time there may be even more at stake. Threats of Armageddon loom in the background as Nadia and the Raphaelians attempt to decipher a formula that may hold the key to unconscionable power. In the course of their investigation, they will once again retrace the steps of the hidden ones back to the ancient world, this time to King Solomon and his legendary djinn—and the part they played in the fall of Israel. There, they will find hints of what Asmodeous had planned for the not-so-distant future. Meanwhile, thousands of miles away, Lilith is already attempting to finish what Asmodeous started.
