Book Sulfate Reduction for Remediation of Gypsiferous Soils and Solid Wastes

Download or read book Sulfate Reduction for Remediation of Gypsiferous Soils and Solid Wastes written by Pimluck Kijjanapanich and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2014-03-19 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Construction and demolition debris (CDD) and gypsiferous soils contain elevated concentrations of sulfate which can cause several environmental and agricultural problems. Reduction of the sulfate content of CDD and gypsiferous soils is an option to overcome these problems. This study aimed to develop sulfate removal systems either by biological or chemical processes to reduce the sulfate content of CDD and gypsiferous soils in order to decrease the amount of solid wastes and to improve the quality of CDD and soils for recycling purposes or agricultural applications. The treatment concept leaches the gypsum contained in the CDD by water. The sulfate containing leachate is further treated and reused in the leaching step. A mixture of cheap organic materials can be utilized as electron donor for the biological sulfate reduction step, especially in gypsiferous soils treatment. The sulfide containing effluent from the bioreactor can be removed by electrochemical sulfide oxidation system.

Book Engineering Practices for Management of Soil Salinity

Download or read book Engineering Practices for Management of Soil Salinity written by S. K. Gupta and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-08-29 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abiotic stresses are known to adversely impact agricultural productivity on millions of hectares globally, and it is projected that these problems are likely to increase, primarily due to anthropogenic interventions as well as climatic changes. Understanding abiotic stresses—especially salt stress on soil—calls for an interdisciplinary approach because salt-stressed soils need hydro-technical, chemical, and agronomic interventions as well as an understanding of plant response when exposed to these stresses. This volume explores and conveys the latest information on emerging technologies in the management of abiotic salt stress and their field applications. It brings together experts from various fields (academia, technology, and engineering) to provide the latest information and knowledge on this important challenge.
