Book Hong Kong Cases in Human Resources Management

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Until recently, few case books have been written about human resources management in Hong Kong. To address this situation, the Case Clearing House of Hong Kong has encouraged local authors to write cases based on true-to-life Hong Kong situations. In this volume, eighteen cases are selected from the library of the Case Clearing House. Areas covered include introduction to human resources management; human resources planning; staffing, orientation and placement; management and development; compensation and benefits; employee management; and occupational safety. Managers in the human resources-related industry will find the situations presented in the book similar to those they face in their work and will be able to learn from the discussions of the cases presented. Students will find the cases a valuable means of developing their understanding of human resources practice in Hong Kong. The book will also benefit trainers who will be able to make use of the cases on training programmes.

Book Managing Public Services

Download or read book Managing Public Services written by Ahmed Shafiqul Huque and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-01-12 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title was first published in 2000: The management of public services is becoming an increasingly difficult task. Demands are increasing while funds appear to be decreasing, but quality of service must remain high. New services are required, demands have to be faced, activities don't always go according to plan and problems emerge in unexpected places and at unusual times; and public managers are expected to deal with these deviations from their regular work patterns. While some activities are concrete in nature and can be seen, such as medical care and education, others are obscured from public view. With governments emphasizing areas that produce visible and quantifiable results, they often neglect the intangible services that must also be provided to the public. Poor performance in these areas can contribute to major crisi in public organizations. This volume examines four case studies in the context of the changing political and social environment of the new Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China. The use of these cases from the public sector in Hong Kong will hopefully help readers to understand the difficulties faced by modern governments in providing basic services to the public.
