Book Management and Methods for Rural and Village Teachers Classic Reprint

Download or read book Management and Methods for Rural and Village Teachers Classic Reprint written by Thomas E. Sanders and published by . This book was released on 2016-06-20 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Management and Methods for Rural and Village Teachers Teachers in rural and village schools have problems of their own. They often have all grades to teach, and many times have a crowded room with few facilities for teaching. Most books on School Management and on Methods of Teaching have been written from the view point of the model school or the city system, and contain much that is impractical in the rural or the village school where ideal conditions do not exist. Management and Methods was written to help rural and village teachers. It embraces nine years' experience in these schools, corrected and modified by several years of deeper study and broader experience. It will, we believe, be found at all times pleading for good common sense in the school room, and for work and study and planning on the part of the teacher. The suggestions will be found helpful, we trust, to teachers, both old and young; and if they are, the author will be satisfied. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Rural School, Its Methods and Management Besides school management, the rural teacher needs to know better methods, especially in primary subjects. Realizing this deficiency, a few chapters in primary methods, by Miss Stone, have been added, which are adapted to the work of country schools. Out of an experience of many years as a teacher in rural, village and county high schools, and as a teacher of teachers, have the pages of this book been written; and it is offered to the public with the hope that it may add its mite to the improvement of rural schools. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Rural School Management This has left the schools of the country and the village without an adequately trained teaching corps. At first, they depended upon those residents of the country, mature and immature, who could show evidence of knowledge chiefly gained in country schools, sufficient to obtain a teacher's certificate. Later, when the high schools, with the aid of the state and because of a quickening of interest among the citizens of towns and cities, grew in numbers, and became more accessible to children of the rural districts, high school graduates sought their teaching apprenticeship in country schools. This book was released on 2015-07-03 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Successful Teaching in Rural Schools IF our American public school system is to provide adequately for the education of all boys and girls, the rural schools of the United States must be improved. It is important in the consideration of this problem that we discuss methods of finance and of administration. It is even more important that well-trained teachers be placed in every classroom, and that those already at work in rural schools grow increasingly more efficient. In this volume the author has presented to rural school teachers a record of achievement by a group of rural school-teachers which is not only enlightening but in spiring. The book could not have been written by one who approached the problem as a theorist. It is out of a rich experience in achieving the ideals set forth, that Dr. Pittman has written to the rural school-teachers of the United States. Book Teaching in Rural Schools Classic Reprint

Download or read book Teaching in Rural Schools Classic Reprint written by Thomas Jackson Woofter and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-01 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Teaching in Rural Schools The United States Census Bureau classifies as living under rural conditions all persons living in the open country and in towns and villages having less that 2500 inhabitants. On this basis, according to the census of 1910, 53.7 per cent of the population of the United States was classed as rural, and the figures probably have not changed materially since that date. In the last printed report of the United States Commissioner of Education it was stated that, during the preceding year, 58.4 per cent of the children enrolled in the public schools of the United States were enrolled in schools classified by the Census Bureau as rural, while of the 600,000 teachers employed, 60 per cent were employed in these rural communities. Approximately eighteen million children were enrolled in these same schools, and about 95 per cent of these were in the elementary grades. When we turn from a consideration of the United States as a whole to a consideration of the individual States, we find that in 34 out of the 48 States more than 50 per cent of the population was living, in 1910, under conditions classed as rural, and in 17 of the 48 States the number so living exceeded 75 per cent of the whole. In 11 States the number exceeded 80 percent of the whole. In the 17 States in which the population was more than 75 per cent rural, from 75 to 80 per cent of the teachers and children are working in rural schools. Still more, approximately 215,000 of the 600,000 teachers employed in all public schools in the United States are to-day working in one-teacher rural schools. Book The School Room Guide to Methods of Teaching and School Management Classic Reprint

Download or read book The School Room Guide to Methods of Teaching and School Management Classic Reprint written by E. V. Degraff and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-06 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The School Room Guide to Methods of Teaching and School Management For the fifth time an entirely new set of plates has been made for this volume. The advantage of such large sale as to make this possible is nowhere more manifest than in a book of methods. Whatever it may have been in the past, the teaching of to-day is progressive, and the methods of 1877 are not altogether the methods of 1894. Particularly in Drawing and in Penmanship has such advance been made that it seemed necessary to have those chapters entirely rewritten. Of the new chapters it need only be said that they have been prepared respectively by Mrs. Mary Dana Hicks of Boston; and by Charles E. Wells, author of the Movement Method of Penmanship. We have also substituted for the Geography of North America prepared by Mr. DeGraff an entirely new chapter, condensed from the admirable works of Prof. Meiklejohn, and in accord with the most approved modern method of teaching. Except in these three chapters, the changes are mainly of arrangement. The book was originally made up of the authors notes as an institute conductor, and hence contained many repetitions. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Teaching the Common Branches: A Textbook for Teachers of Rural and Graded Schools This book represents an attempt to Write a simple text on the theory of teaching for students of teaching and for inexperienced teachers, particularly in the rural schools. Most of the Would-be teachers Who take an elementary course in methods of teaching are destined to begin in country schools. But most of the methods found in books on teaching have been Worked out for graded schools, Where there is more time, and Where there are, on the Whole, better teachers. The author has faced this problem by Writing the present text primarily for rural teachers. The most practical assistance to him in the task has been several years' experience of his own as a country school teacher, several years more spent in training country teachers in a County Model School, and, very recently, some experience in teaching peda gogy to a group of young students in the University, High School. This equipment has been supplemented by an examination of all the books used in the high school normal training classes Of those states that have them, and by submitting the manuscript to certain experts who know country schools and the capacities of their teachers. Book The Principles and Practice of Teaching and Class Management Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Principles and Practice of Teaching and Class Management Classic Reprint written by Joseph Landon and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-09 with total page 498 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Principles and Practice of Teaching and Class Management The following pages are the outcome of nearly a quarter of a century's experience as lecturer on School Management in a Training College, and of still longer experience as a teacher, as well as of a considerable amount of reading, and of numerous observations and experiments in teaching carried out at various times and in various ways. The book is intended to meet the wants of students in Training Colleges, of teachers generally, and of any who are interested in the practical work of education. The attempt has been made to present in a direct and intelligible way the broader outlines and essential characteristics of the teacher's work; more especially the theory of oral teaching, the preparation of lessons, the use of the teaching devices, class management, and the various methods of carrying on instruction in those branches of knowledge which are commonly taught in schools. The subject is treated from the art side rather than from the scientific, so that it may be of as thoroughly practical and useful a character as possible; but the underlying science of education has been carefully kept in mind, and it is believed that the teacher will have nothing to unlearn in the further prosecution of his studies for the purpose of associating his practice more fully with the laws which govern the development of the child's mind and the modes of mental action. The views expressed are sometimes out of harmony with current opinion, and still more frequently opposed to common practice; but it is hoped that they will be found neither intolerant nor unreasonable.
