Book The Natural Man Directed to Jesus Christ

Download or read book The Natural Man Directed to Jesus Christ written by Francis Roberts and published by Puritan Publications. This book was released on 2015-07-13 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the present day, many professing Evangelicals believe that "salvation" stems from a superficial display of moral behavior, believe in Jesus and nothing more is required in the life of a Christian. Roberts viewed this approach as the efforts of a natural man attempting to accumulate merit before God to secure eternal life – a deceptive scheme crafted by the devil for the unsuspecting soul. His book aims to guide sinners away from these innate inclinations and towards Jesus Christ. It's more than a mere invitation to Christ; it's a robust tool designed to jolt the sinner’s understanding into grasping the fundamental aspects of the Gospel of Jesus Christ concerning sin and salvation. This book serves as a heartfelt guide, mapping the path for the natural man towards the redeeming grace of King Jesus. Some have remarked that this particular book stands as an unparalleled exhortation in the lineage of Christian literature. It explores deeply the covenant of God, detailing the ways and means through which a sinner, guided and changed by God, can achieve salvation. It elucidates the path to saving grace and to the sole Redeemer of God’s chosen, with what many believe to be some of the most compelling and poignant directives and descriptions in the Gospel. Its impact has been compared to, and some say even exceeds, the urgency found in Alleine’s “Alarm to Unconverted Sinners.” Roberts' primary aim with this work was to not only spark interest in Christ among sinners but also to guide them towards the sole means of salvation. This was achieved through targeted, potent, straightforward, and factual sermonizing and writing. It’s likely that you have never encountered such preaching or writing before. As the Scriptures are thoroughly explored, they reveal the essence of Gospel beauty, glorifying Christ in their accuracy, fervor, and theological depth. Christians and non-Christians will find themselves transformed by this work if they take it to heart sincerely. After reading his twenty-four specific directions for discovering the true, biblical Christ, readers will inevitably find themselves either closer to heaven or closer to hell.

Book excerpt: The fall of man resulted in Adam and Eve losing all consciousness of God. They woke up to self and found themselves imprisoned by a completely new nature—the sin nature—which would poison the entire human race for all time. From then until now, the troubles of the world—wars, man’s inhumanity to man, his dependency on cruel vices, and the habits of hell—are all caused by the sin nature which rules every person. Of course the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ broke the hold of this deadly yoke and repositioned the believer in Christ. So why do Christians struggle so hard to live for God? In this revelatory book, Evangelist Jimmy Swaggart explains how the sin nature, which remains in Christians, can be reactivated, and how victory over the world, the flesh, and the Devil can only be maintained through faith in the Cross of Christ.

Book excerpt: Jesus Christ saves radically depraved men, women, and children from their sins. However, to understand, believe, and love the good news about the crucified and resurrected Savior, we must first understand our condition. Thus, we offer this issue of the Free Grace Broadcaster: Radical Depravity. Arthur Pink introduces us to this weighty subject by asking the question, “Is man a totally and thoroughly depraved creature by nature?” Thomas Reade then tells us about the deadly consequences and bitter fruits of Adam’s fall: in Adam all die. We then consider Joel Beeke’s helpful survey of the doctrine of human depravity. A second article by Thomas Reade leads us to a painful truth: the heart of man is evil. But he does not leave us there: he takes us to the blessed Son of God for deliverance. John Owen describes with great clarity the depraved and corrupted state of man’s mind and teaches us that the only remedy for this great darkness is the new birth: “You must be born again.” Loraine Boettner explains the extent and effects of original sin, which results in human inability in the matters of salvation. What is our true spiritual condition outside of Christ? Charles Spurgeon declares that we are legally, spiritually, and eternally dead. Nevertheless, he also tells us that we can be legally, spiritually, eternally alive by faith in Jesus Christ the Son! We then hear from John Flavel that in mercy, grace, and love, God draws sinners to Jesus Christ, gradually, suitably, powerfully, effectually, and finally. That is indeed good news! J. C. Ryle brings our subject to a close by asking a penetrating question: “Are you dead or alive?” Each of us, dear readers, must answer that question.
