Book Man s Future Birthright

Download or read book Man s Future Birthright written by Hermann Joseph Muller and published by SUNY Press. This book was released on 1973-01-01 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hermann Joseph Muller (1890-1967) was a member of the early genetics group at Columbia University that developed the chromosome theory of inheritance. T. H. Morgan received the Nobel Prize in Medicine and Physiology for this work in 1934, and Muller, his student, received the Nobel Prize in 1946 for his discovery of radiation-induced mutation. Muller's writings extended beyond contributions to technical journals. He was an active critic of social abuse of science; he advocated eugenic programs based on free choice; and he played a major role in the reform of high school biology. Muller's social views were published in magazines and journals which are accessible to scholars more than to the lay reader or student. They have been collected here to show how extensively he thought our lives are affected by radiation, evolution, modern medicine, and gene theory. He attempted to alert humanity to the dangers of neglect and abuse of their genetic heritage. He also used humanistic values to urge mankind to improve itself, to foster cooperativeness, to increase health and intelligence, and to adopt and evolutionary outlook. A companion collection of essays, The Modern Concept of Nature: Essays on Theoretical Biology by H. J. Muller, also published by State University of New York Press, deals with Muller's scientific contributions to genetics and evolution. It was Muller who developed the relation between genes and mutation; his views on the primacy of the gene in biology are reflected today in the similar primacy of nucleic acids as the basis of life. For students of the history of ideas, a collection of these essays would illustrate how genetic thinking prepared the world view for molecular biologists. The relation of science to values is often neglected because of the inaccessibility of the written contributions of famous scientists. To read Muller's major essays in these two areas is an important way to evaluate a scientist's career, his maturation of ideas, and his developing application of science to society.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The vast majority of the global population acquires citizenship purely by accidental circumstances of birth. There is little doubt that securing membership status in a given state bequeaths to some a world filled with opportunity and condemns others to a life with little hope. Gaining privileges by such arbitrary criteria as one’s birthplace is discredited in virtually all fields of public life, yet birthright entitlements still dominate our laws when it comes to allotting membership in a state. In The Birthright Lottery, Ayelet Shachar argues that birthright citizenship in an affluent society can be thought of as a form of property inheritance: that is, a valuable entitlement transmitted by law to a restricted group of recipients under conditions that perpetuate the transfer of this prerogative to their heirs. She deploys this fresh perspective to establish that nations need to expand their membership boundaries beyond outdated notions of blood-and-soil in sculpting the body politic. Located at the intersection of law, economics, and political philosophy, The Birthright Lottery further advocates redistributional obligations on those benefiting from the inheritance of membership, with the aim of ameliorating its most glaring opportunity inequalities.

Book The Blackman s Stolen Birthright

Download or read book The Blackman s Stolen Birthright written by Alfred Ali and published by House of Ali. This book was released on 1993-12-01 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spiritually, Man's nature is dual. His higher passions are balanced by his lower passions & are referred to as his Godly desires & Devilish desires. Anything outside the realm of God's Laws, Nature or Truth is "termed" Devil. Devil is any Nation, Person, Food, Dress Code, Language, or even Money that is used in a manner that is contrary to Nature (natural living), God's written word or the Perpetuation of Life. The European world that is controlling the Black, Brown, Red, & Yellow nations of earth today are ruling like a Devil. This is why Revelation 20 v7-8 refers to them as Satan or Gog & Magog let loose on the four corners of the earth. The Muslim world refers to the European Community as the Devil because of their Behavior with other nations of earth. This perspective can be changed with a change in Deeds & Behavior. Europeans are ruling according to their lower passions! THE BLACKMAN'S STOLEN BIRTHRIGHT is this Divine Knowledge that was stolen from him during slavery via a process of Mental Birth Control. The restoration of this knowledge will cause People of Color all over the earth to understand this problem (Racism), & realize that the solution is, there is only one nation on earth: THE HUMAN NATION! Book excerpt: Birthright is a book that balances the weight of place. The pride and shame and worth of homeland. Palestine, a homeland under siege and under scrutiny from a world that doesn't occupy its borders. It is a book of immense nuance, pulling together all corners of the author's pride in home, but also a desire to understand the violent cycles of the American machinery of war.
