Book Man and World in the Light of Anthroposophy

Download or read book Man and World in the Light of Anthroposophy written by Stewart C Easton and published by . This book was released on 2023-10-31 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern Answers for Modern Questions A sense of alienation and isolation is part of the experience of every modern person. Social and political life are governed by fear and uncertainty. People are strangers both to one another and to the world. Why are these conditions more acute now than ever before in history? What meaning can be found in our modern crises? In the light of anthroposophy (literally human-wisdom) we come to see that man's fall from grace is at the same time his path to freedom. As a body of knowledge, anthroposophy shows how the human being's relationship to the world has changed with each historical epoch. In this book, Stewart Easton gives the reader a clear overview of the complex terrain along this path, explaining that anthroposophy is not so much a philosophical system as a "seed" of new consciousness. Through the very act of becoming conscious of one's true relationship to the world, this relationship changes once again. The alienation is gradually bridged; life begins to have purpose; the seed has begun to grow. The many practical fruits of the tree that grows from this seed are described in the second part of this work: a medical science that is truly holistic, an agricultural system that is in harmony with nature and the cosmos, an educational method that nurtures head, heart, and hand toward the freedom that comes from reaching one's full potential, and much more. This book provides an informative and comprehensive introduction to anthroposophy and to Rudolf Steiner, the inaugurator of anthroposophy. Reprint of 1989 revised third edition.

Book World History and the Mysteries

Download or read book World History and the Mysteries written by Rudolf Steiner and published by Rudolf Steiner Press. This book was released on 2021-05-17 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this landmark series of lectures, Rudolf Steiner challenges the notion that human consciousness has in essence remained the same throughout history. On the contrary, we can only see the past in its true light when we study the differences in human souls during the various historical eras. Consciousness, he says, evolves constantly and we can only comprehend the present by understanding its origin in the past. Delivered in the evenings during the course of the ‘mystery act’ of the Christmas Foundation Meeting – when Rudolf Steiner not only re-founded the Anthroposophical Society but for the first time took a formal role within it – these lectures study world history in parallel with the ancient mysteries of initiation, showing how they are intimately linked. Steiner describes consciousness in the ancient East and follows the initiation principle from Babylonia to Greece, up to its influences in present-day spiritual life. He also discusses Gilgamesh and Eabani, the mysteries of Ephesus and Hibernia, and the occult relationship between the destruction by fire of the Temple of Artemis and the burning of the first Goetheanum in Dornach, Switzerland. Published for the first time with colour plates of Steiner’s blackboard drawings, the freshly-revised text is complemented with an introduction, notes and appendices by Professor Frederick Amrine and an index.

Book Man and the World of the Stars

Download or read book Man and the World of the Stars written by Rudolf Steiner and published by SteinerBooks. This book was released on 1982-05 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 12 lectures, Dornach, November-December, 1922 (CW 219) "Let it never be imagined that man's achievements in culture and civilization on the Earth, however complex and splendid they may be, are at all comparable with the greatness of what is achieved by him together with the Beings of the Higher Hierarchies in order to build this wonder-structure of the human physical organism." --Rudolf Steiner The actions of spiritual beings in relation to the rhythm of the course of the year are brought to light in these inspiring lectures, showing how we are challenged to consciously integrate these rhythms into our earthly life. Steiner reveals that the concepts of spiritual science serve as our eyes in the spiritual world after death. He shows that we change the world when we communicate with it out of our spiritual nature, which is the true spiritual communion of humanity. This volume is a translation of Das Verhältnis der Sternwelt zum Menschen und des Menschen zur Sternwelt. Die geistige Kommunion der Menschheit (GA 219).

Book Man s Being His Destiny and World Evolution

Download or read book Man s Being His Destiny and World Evolution written by Rudolf Steiner and published by SteinerBooks. This book was released on 1966-01-15 with total page 123 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The lecture presented here were given by Rudolf Steiner at a series of public meetings in Christiana, Norway, in May, 1923. He had gone there at the invitation of Scandinavian friends to take part in the founding of the Anthroposophical Society in Norway. Upon their request for a series of public lectures he chose to talk about the fundamental anthroposophical problems connected with the being of man, the formation of his destiny and the relationship of the complete man to world evolution. Dr. Steiner, who was then late in life, responded to the warm interest of his audience with the vigor of a young man. As the scandinavian sky and earth appear to blend into each other, so his inspiring worlds seemed to link his listeners with the eternal truths of man's origins, his present needs and future aims. In the very first of these lectures Dr. Steiner typically relates man's being to the vast spaces of the cosmos in a discussion of the period between falling asleep and awaking and the path pursued by man between death and a new birth. From this beginning he traces human destiny working in the individual to the continuing course of mankind's whole evolution. Finally, the destiny of man is contemplated in the light of the Mystery of Golgotha, and the influence of this event on man's development on earth is revealed. The cycle closes with the thought that for man to reach God anew he must, in full consciousn ess of his connections with the Mystery of Golgotha, bring himself to be able to say with St. Paul, "Not I, but the Christ in me!"

This book was released on 1987-01-15 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "One should try to see health and disease in light of the theory of color." --Rudolf Steiner This book is the result the of the author's adventure in painting and work with Liane Collot d'Herbois (1907-1999), the well-known artist and therapist who worked in the tradition of Rudolf Steiner's spiritual research. The author learned to surrender to the beings of color, to remove one's self from the process, and to paint as "one would do mathematics," that is, in an orderly way. The journey recorded in Touched takes the reader first to Tintagel on the Atlantic coast of Cornwall, England, where Liane Collot d'Herbois had lived as a child. In the early 1990s, the author first met Liane in Driebergen, The Netherlands, and began a journey of self-discovery through color. She recollects conversations with Liane, shares significant words from Steiner, Liane, and others, along with observations on her travels through England, Europe, Russia, Persia, and elsewhere. Underlying the narrative is Marie-Laure's more intimate journey into light and darkness and colors and the wise teaching of Liane Collot d'Herbois. She describes the effects of using charcoal to explore light and darkness, then moves on discuss colors individually and their effects, subtle and otherwise, while illuminating her text with the words of Rudolf Steiner and others and offering her own observations on artists and color. Touched offers a sound and practical introduction to the world of light and darkness and color, as well as insights that will inspire experienced artists.

Book What Is Anthroposophy

Download or read book What Is Anthroposophy written by Rudolf Steiner and published by SteinerBooks. This book was released on 2002-06 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "My life changed dramatically, drastically, and irrevocably on November 17, 2005. That was my death day and re-birthday. The external event was surgical removal of a glioblastoma multiforme tumor phase iv from the left occipital-parietal lobe of my cranium. Though I was unconscious during surgery, what I experienced was transcendent, like being turned inside out and hovering in timelessness, between this world and the life after life, and returning to here and now -- changed forever. What sounds like a cliché describes literally what I felt." (from the foreword) This generous, courageous, and wise book offers a selfless glimpse behind the curtain of a journey with cancer, from shock to inner rebirth and the gradual discovery of light in the darkness William Ward has written a personal account of his life following a fateful diagnosis of a brain tumor: gliablastoma multiforme Phase IV cancer. With no trace of self-pity and rising above sentimentality, he describes the landscape of his outer path through hospitals, surgeons, pain, powerful drugs, and the support of family, friends, and community. At the same time, with fearless honesty he invites the reader to accompany him on the inner path of inevitable regrets, self-examination, fears, and hopes in the face of a potentially terminal illness. Until it happens to us, we can never know for sure how we would respond as individuals to a catastrophic event in our lives, but by telling the most personal of all stories, William Ward shows us a way forward that goes well beyond our personal differences. With compassion and humor, Ward bears witness to the presence of living light in the darkest of human experiences, demonstrating how, if we face it, the Dark Night of the Soul necessarily leads to awaking in the light of a new dawn. Fierce hope shines through the final words of Traveling Light: "As we part, here at the edge of Death Valley, I feel like an old prospector handing over a weather-stained chart. "You take this map, sonny. Where I'm goin' I won't be needin' it no more. But while you're here on the earthly plane, I want you to know there is water, the water of life, deep down, right here. Yonder, atop Solomon's knob, is the Mother Lode--pay dirt, pure gold, the sun's tears. The way up is steep. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other. Up on top you can see forever. Goodbye, God bless, and good luck!" Cover Image by Claire Ward Miesmer

Book excerpt: 3 lectures, Dornach, December 17-19, 1920 (CW 202) Rudolf Steiner addresses the following topics in these lectures: Soul-and-Spirit in Man's Physical Constitution: The physical organism of man is considered today to consist of more or less solid-fluid substances; but as well as his solid, physical body, man has within him as definite organisms, a fluid body, an air-body and a warmth-body. -- The connections of these organisms with the members of man's whole being and with the different Ethers. -- Thought and Tone; Ego and circulating Blood. -- Man in the sleeping state. -- Man's relation to the universal Spirituality. -- Imagination, Inspiration, Intuition. -- The circumscribed view of the human organism prevailing today is unable to build any bridge between the physical body and the soul-and-spirit. The Moral as the Source of World-Creative Power: Recapitulation of previous lecture. -- Connection of the moral world-order with the physical world-order. -- The moral world-order has no place in the natural scientific thinking of today. -- The positive effect of moral ideals and ideas and the negative effect of theoretical ideas on the four organisms in man. -- The materialistic conception of the imperishability of matter and energy. -- Matter and energy die away to nullity; but man's moral thinking imbues life into substance and will. -- The natural world dies away in man; in the realm of the moral a new natural world comes into being; thus are the moral order and the natural order connected. -- Absence of spirituality in the modern picture of the world which is based on the Copernican system. -- Kepler and Newton. -- We need a spiritual view of the universe. -- The sun is not a globe of burning gas but the reflection of a spiritual reality revealed in the physical. -- The moral power developed by man rays out and is reflected as the spiritual Sun. -- Julian the Apostate. -- The connection of the spiritual Sun with the physical sun is the Christ-Secret. The Path to Freedom and Love and Their Significance in World-Events: Man as a being of Thinking, Action and Feeling. -- The connection of the life of thought with the will. -- Pure thinking: irradiation of the life of thought by will. -- This leads to Freedom. -- Irradiation of the life of will by thoughts leads to Love. -- The meaning of the ancient expressions: Semblance, Power, Wisdom. -- To speak of the imperishability of matter and energy annuls Love. -- The significance of Freedom and Love in world-happenings.

Book THE EAST IN THE LIGHT OF THE WEST

Download or read book THE EAST IN THE LIGHT OF THE WEST written by Rudolf Steiner and published by Rudolf Steiner Press. This book was released on 2017-10-23 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ‘A wonderfully beautiful legend tells us that when Lucifer fell from heaven to earth a precious stone fell from his crown… This precious stone is in a certain respect nothing else than the full power of the “I”.’ Seven years after staging Edward Schuré’s drama The Children of Lucifer, Rudolf Steiner felt able to talk openly about the complex relationship between the beings of Lucifer and Christ. In an extraordinary series of lectures, Steiner addresses the difficult and often misunderstood subject of Lucifer’s role in human development. Speaking within the broader context of ancient and modern – Eastern and Western – spiritual teachings, Steiner clarifies that Lucifer is not the simple caricature of evil that many imagine, but rather plays a pivotal role in human development. Whilst Rudolf Steiner held a deep respect for Eastern philosophy, he worked consistently from his personal knowledge of the Western – Christian – esoteric tradition. At a time when many of his colleagues revered ancient Eastern texts, Steiner viewed these same documents as representations of an earlier stage of human consciousness; as evidence of the heights that Eastern wisdom had reached, thousands of years before the development of Western science and culture. But Steiner maintains that the ancient truths need to be understood in the context of contemporary knowledge: that the old wisdom of the East has to be seen in the light of the West. Chapters include: Eternity and Time – Comparison of the Wisdom of East and West – The Nature of the Physical and the Astral Worlds – Evolutionary Stages – The Children of Lucifer and the Brothers of Christ – Lucifer and Christ – The Nature of the Luciferic Influence in History – The Bodhisattvas and the Christ.

Book Rudolf Steiner

Download or read book Rudolf Steiner written by Roy Wilkinson and published by Temple Lodge Publishing. This book was released on 2001 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In many ways, Rudolf Steiner is the forgotten genius of recent times. A powerful thinker, who developed an intricate spiritual philosophy based on his ability to research and perceive spiritual dimensions, Steiner is perhaps best known today for his legacy to education, medicine and agriculture. But behind these practical manifestations of his ideas lies a profound teaching, which he termed a science of spirit, or anthroposophy. In these wonderfully succinct summaries of Steiner's thought, Roy Wilkinson introduces us to aspects of this spiritual philosophy. The twelve chapters discuss: Rudolf Steiner, herald of a new age reincarnation and karma The spiritual nature of the human being The development of human consciousness World and human evolution Relationships between the living and the dead Forces of evil A modern path of initiation Life between death and rebirth The spiritual hierarchies Philosophical approach to the spirit The Christ's mission Illustrated.

Book Love and Its Meaning in the World

Download or read book Love and Its Meaning in the World written by Rudolf Steiner and published by SteinerBooks. This book was released on 1998 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although Steiner did not often speak or write about love explicitly, love is at the very heart of his whole body of work and the foundation of his hopes for humankind and the Earth. Steiner teaches that, without love, nothing is possible; with love, however, we can do everything. Love is always "love of the not-yet." To love is to create; it is to selflessly enter the current of time that flows toward us from the future. Reality, true knowledge of reality, is impossible without love. Only through love can we truly know as we are know, can we encounter the world and its beings in a living way. Without love, knowledge becomes manipulation, domination, control; the world becomes a space of dead things. But, when we know through love, we enter into a pattern of dynamic, potentially redemptive relations and the world becomes a living world of beings working for the good. This collection gathers all of Rudolf Steiner's main lectures and writings related to love. From earthly love to the nature and function of spiritual love, these pieces are essential reading for anyone concerned with the future of humanity and the Earth. Love and Its Meaning in the World is essential reading for anyone who'd like to gain a deeper understanding of our true mission as human beings and the purpose of evolution on Earth. Chapters include: "The Division of the Sexes" "Lucifer and Christ" "The Mission of Reverence" "The Buddha's Teaching of Compassion and Love" "Faith, Love, and Hope" "Love & Its Meaning in the World" "'I'-Feeling, the Soul's Capacity to Love, and Their Relationship to the Elemental World" Love mediated by the senses is the wellspring of creative power, of what is coming into being. Without sense-born love, nothing material would exist in the world; without spiritual love, nothing spiritual can arise in evolution. When we practice love, cultivate love, creative forces pour into the world.... For human beings, love is the most important fruit of experience in the sensory world. Once we really understand the nature of love, or compassion, we will find that love is the way spirit expresses its truth in the world of the senses.... "We may even say that, in love, the spiritual world awakens in the physical. The more truly a soul inhabits the spiritual worlds, the more it experiences lovelessness and lack of compassion as a denial of spirit itself." --Rudolf Steiner

Book The Aims of Anthroposophy

Download or read book The Aims of Anthroposophy written by Rudolf Steiner and published by Rudolf Steiner Press. This book was released on 2020-06-04 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In his final lectures to the general public, Rudolf Steiner speaks with great clarity and purpose about the inner and outer necessity of the anthroposophical impulse in modern times. Following the fire that destroyed the first Goetheanum building in Dornach, Switzerland, Steiner had focused his efforts on rebuilding and reorganizing the Anthroposophical Society. But he also continued to travel and speak to the public – in Prague, Vienna and Basel – to explain the purpose of the Goetheanum and to elucidate the broader aims of his spiritual work. These lectures, including a semi-public series in Dornach, are gathered here and published in English for the first time, together with an introduction, notes and index. The volume features the following lectures: ‘The Purpose of the Goetheanum and the Aims of Anthroposophy’; ‘Enhancing Human Powers of Perception to Develop Imagination, Inspiration and Intuition’; ‘Human Soul Life and the Development of Imagination, Inspiration and Intuition’; ‘Experience and Perception of the Activities of Thinking and Speech’; ‘The Physical World and Moral-Spiritual Impulses’: ‘Four Stages of Inner Experience’; ‘Perceiving the Etheric World’; ‘Soul’s Eternity in the Light of Anthroposophy’; ‘Human Development and Education in the Light of Anthroposophy’; ‘Supersensible Perception, Anthroposophy as a Contemporary Need’; ‘Anthroposophy and the Ethical and Religious Life’; ‘How Do We Gain Knowledge of the Supersensible World?’

  • Pages : 221 pages

Download or read book Human Evolution written by RUDOLF STEINER and published by Rudolf Steiner Press. This book was released on 2014 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ‘Anyone who takes hold of what we call spiritual science, not with purely abstract thoughts but with his whole being, will see that this spiritual science goes right into the dexterity of the hands, that it makes a person more capable and enables him to extend his interest over wider areas and his will over a wider world.’ – Rudolf Steiner Returning from travels in war-torn Europe, Rudolf Steiner gives a stark impression of the disastrous conditions of the time, encouraging deeper esoteric work as a counter to the world-situation. Speaking under the broad theme of human development in the light of anthroposophy, he analyses the gulf between contemporary culture and science – which he says are characterized by ‘narrow-mindedness, philistinism and ineptitude’ – and a scientific approach to the spirit. At the same time, Steiner is clear-sighted about the shortcomings of his followers, mentioning past failures and a continuing tendency towards sectarianism and dogmatic judgements. Rudolf Steiner discusses how we experience a state of separateness with the world through our physical form, whilst our aura – or soul-spiritual being – is already living actively in cosmic surroundings. A conscious crossing of the threshold into the spiritual world is urgent and necessary today, although Steiner warns of the dangers inherent in certain eastern and western approaches. The tendency of initiates of the Orient is to abandon the human race, whilst the American impulse is immersed too strongly in physical, bodily nature. And a potential demonic influence works through technology. However, a spiritual-scientific path of knowledge and development can allow us to navigate through these challenges. Other themes featured include: the threefold Sun Mystery of ancient times; the Mystery of Christ Jesus and the threefold being of man; the human limbs as thoughts of the higher hierarchies; the loss of the spiritual knowledge of the old Mysteries; the gulf between idealism and realism; the formation of language from Cosmic Intelligence; the Pythagorean School and the mendacity of the world at that time; the disintegration of words after death; the twelve senses; the spiritual impact of old people’s death on the physical Earth; and the impulse of socialism. The wealth of spiritual thoughts and knowledge presented in these lectures remain as relevant today as they did when they were first delivered.
