The daughter of a faithful Christian family of German immigrants, Matilda is only six when she is caught up in the bloody Battle of Franklin, only ten when she and her family are pursued by the Ku Klux Klan and forced to flee from Tennessee to California. Like Joseph sold into slavery in Egypt, no adversity can crush her. The talented young artist becomes the protégé first of Penelope Hearst and later of French feminist painter Rosa Bonheur. No typical Victorian woman, she overcomes both sexism and self-doubt to paint dukes in England, counts in Hungary, and Bedouins in North Africa. She refuses to marry until fifty-five, when she falls in love with another painter, a Hungarian nobleman. But when a second war, the Great War, strips her of nearly everything, Matilda is challenged to one final battle – with her own heart.

Book excerpt: Mama of ten Abbie Halberstadt helps women humbly and gracefully rise to the high calling of motherhood without settling for mediocrity or losing their minds in the process. Motherhood is a challenge. Unfortunately, our worldly culture offers moms little in the way of real help. Mamas only connect to celebrate surviving another day and to share in their misery rather than rejoice in what God has done and to build each other up in hard times. There has a be a better way, a biblical way, for mamas to grow and thrive. As a daughter of Christ, you have been called to be more than an average mama. Attaining excellence doesn’t have to be unsettling but it will take committed focus and a desire to parent well according to God’s grace and for His glory. M is for Mama offers advice, encouragement, and scripturally sound strategies seasoned with a little bit of humor to help you embrace the challenge of biblical motherhood and raise your children with love and wisdom. Mama, you are worthy of the awesome responsibility God has given you. Now it’s time to start believing you can live up to it.

Book Windflower s Song

Download or read book Windflower s Song written by Jane Kendale and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2014-12-16 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spanning one thousand years, three continents and several countries the writer’s soul experiences a dozen lives. Some are short and brutal, some long and fruitful. Always her soul is presented with lessons to be learned. These lives encompass many of the emotions, situations and tragedies that define the human condition. Love and hate, compassion and empathy, murder, rape, suicide, abandonment, war, betrayal, unrequited and lost love, drowning, suffocation, depression, plague – it’s all there. By embracing hypnotic past life regression, the writer has learned to forgive many past wrongs and also allow others the opportunity to forgive her soul for wrongs committed. She has been able to fix karma with a number of other souls who have incarnated with her again in this lifetime. By enlarging upon the nugget of “truth” gleaned during regression, she provides the reader with a series of vignettes that are evocative of the time and place in which she was living. These short stories are followed with frank examinations of how the information she has been shown has helped her, allowing her a compassionate understanding of many of the more difficult and challenging relationships she has experienced in this lifetime. Part fiction but largely autobiographical, this is a very personal reflection on the experience of hypnotic past life regression and the healing that it can provide. It has a universality that will be accepted by those who believe in reincarnation and just enjoyed by those who do not.

Trinity’s doctor, who insists on being called ‘Dr. Quin’ as a kind sentiment, has always put her daughter front and center, so it tugs at both their heartstrings when they have to watch her health start to deteriorate. When Trinity’s father surprises Quin and Whitney, they’re led down a path of hope, only to be let down once again, as Trinity lays in hospital, missing out on her young life. Although hopeful, Quin keeps hitting brick walls in his quest to find what the little girl needs, and in doing so, he also finds what he’s always needed, but he can’t have both until the one he loves can love again. Book When A Heartless Thug Holds Me Close 4

Download or read book When A Heartless Thug Holds Me Close 4 written by Tya Marie and published by Sullivan Group Publishing. This book was released on 2018-06-24 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Zeus Townsend has always held it together for his brothers. Being the oldest of four, Zeus was not only their older brother, but a father figure after the jailhouse murder of their father nearly fifteen years ago. However, with the Assan Brothers gone for good, Zeus is able to start building the life he sacrificed for the sake of holding his family down. Three years later, he has done exactly that: his position as connect has brought him wealth, he has the woman of his dreams by his side, and for the first time since he was younger, he's happy. Unfortunately for the eldest Townsend Brother, happiness can only be short lived. In a twist of events, Zeus’ blissful existence is ruined by a secret that was supposed to be taken to the grave. Forced to move on without the love of his life, Zeus is convinced that he’ll never love again until he meets the mysterious Quincy Burton. She's the best thing he never knew he needed, yet their connection goes deeper than between the sheets. She's an Assan Sister and while her intentions are pure, her bloodline isn’t. While Zeus focuses on starting over, his brother, Hasani, and sister-in-law, Gia, are newlyweds maneuvering marital problems made for veteran unions. When it comes to remaining faithful to his fiancée, Hasani Townsend has come a long way from the remorseless adulterer he once was. Too bad for him, his history is known to someone who threatens to not only take down his family, but ruin his marriage before it even begins. One drunken night at his bachelor party is the first nail in the coffin of their dying marriage. Two fatal gunshots change the trajectory of their entire relationship, placing a deep crack in an already shaky foundation. Three years of relationship building is destroyed at a discovery made by Hasani, causing him to wonder if he wasn’t the only one sneaking and creeping. However, for all of their marital lows, Hasani and Gia remain connected through their ability to push aside their issues and be the rock each other needs when life gets tough. But with all of their secrets and lies coming out, Hasani has to decide whether he's going to tough it out and remain with the woman he loves, or if it’s best to walk away. Born into the Luchesi Crime Family, Gianna Luchesi was raised with access to guns, money, and power. Instead of relying on her family name to create her legacy, Gia goes to medical school and uses her position as a front for her real job, which is running a lucrative arms business from New York City. While her position as an arms dealer brings her joy, Gia is constantly at odds with Hasani when it comes to her future. Hasani is supportive in every way possible, but aside from his past transgressions, he wants her to play it safe when the life she has chosen for herself is anything but. However, when an enemy targeting the Townsend Brothers places a bullseye on her back, Gia has no choice but to insert herself and everyone bearing her notorious last name into a war for the ages. Gia remains strong on the business side despite her personal life suffering. Her marriage to Hasani has taken several blows over a short amount of time due to enemies who wish to see her suffer, but when Gia discovers that the fatal blow was delivered by someone who was supposed to have her back, Gia has to save her marriage before Hasani throws in the towel. When a Heartless Thug Holds Me Close 4, a true love story, is filled with earth shattering secrets, volatile lies, and a reminder that like ghosts, real grudges never die.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every night of revival--1945 to 1956--the Evangelist and his family carried the mostly Appalachian folks to whom they ministered on up to a higher place. Worn down bodies in from the heat and dust of a sharecropper's cotton fields or unventilated rooms of the mill barely made it over to the local Pentecostal church house, to the shelter of a raised-up tent or bush arbor. But by the time they sang, shouted, and prayed in response to the Skondeen family's music and preaching, something shifted. In Hidden Biscuits, Audrey Skondeen Ward's memories come alive by way of her writing, as words, songs, and voices long silent are connected through a Deep South landscape.

He served two tours of duty in South Korea, the first as the feature writer for The Pacific Stars and Stripes newspaper, distributed daily to more than 37,000 U. S. soldiers in South Korea. The young reporter covered all meetings of the Military Armistice Commission (MAC) held at Panmunjom, and traveled freely throughout South Korea in his assigned Jeep, writing about anything of a military or civilian nature that interested him or that might be of interest to his readers. At age 24 the author was accepted as a student at the prestigious Defense Language Institute, located at Monterey, California, where he studied the Korean language for a year, graduating first in his class of thirty students. Following months of instruction at the U. S. Army Intelligence Center located at Ft. Holabird, Maryland, the author was stationed with the 502 Military Intelligence Battalion in Seoul, South Korea. As the youngest of the five prisoner interrogators and intelligence analysts, the specialist daily interrogated captured North Korean espionage agents and their 'minders" who had failed in their attempt to infiltrate the irregular coastline of South Korea. Dr. Provost's Reflections in An Orphan's Eye-A Decade at Oxford is the first book written about the historic 132-year-old institution since Nettie Bemis' popular Life at Oxford, published in1925. However, whereas Nettie Bemis' work centered around the history and campus life at Oxford, Dr. Provost's work, while recounting the history of the institution, is a factual, bittersweet narrative of a youngster's decade-long odyssey spent growing up 'inside the hedges." This work is a moving account of how tradition rich Oxford Orphanage and its four hundred students and staff grabbed a timid, disillusion
