His description of Army life at Fort Polk will bring back memories for anyone who served in the Army!In the Coast Guard he was an enlisted man obtaining the rank of master chief petty officer (E-9), was commissioned as an officer, and retired as a lieutenant (0-3E). He served at several shore stations and afloat in the Sumac (WLR-311), Seneca (WMEC-906), Tampa (WMEC-902), Eagle (WIX-327), Sherman (WHEC-720), and Dependable (WMEC-626). In Eagle he sailed on her summer 1998 cruise. While in the Sherman he held the position of command enlisted advisor and made her historic deployment to the Persian Gulf and circumnavigation of the globe in 2001. He details the Coast Guards mission in the Persian Gulf to enforce NATO sanctions, boarding suspected oil smuggling vessels, and the sinking of the M/V Zainab. In Dependable he details numerous multimillion dollar drug busts to include the $274 million dollars in drugs found aboard the M/V Miss Mery Hill.
