Book Male Accessory Sex Organs

Download or read book Male Accessory Sex Organs written by David Brandes and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 541 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Male Accessory Sex Organs: Structure and Function in Mammals investigates the salient features of subcellular structure and function of some sex hormone-dependent organs as well as the molecular hormonal mechanisms that regulate them. It describes the embryology, anatomy, and histology of the male sex accessory glands, along with hormonal regulation of fine structure, effects of nutrition on male accessory organs, and uptake and retention of androgens in these organs. Organized into three sections comprised of 19 chapters, this book begins with an overview of the ultrastructural organization, nutritional requirements, and chief functional properties of the main sex accessory glands in males. It then discusses the molecular mechanisms of hormone action, immunological aspects and systematic abnormalities of some of these male accessory sex organs, pituitary secretion of gonadotropins, fine structural aspects of cytodifferentiation, and biochemical and functional properties related to sperm metabolism and fertility. Other chapters focus on zinc in male sex accessory organs, the role of lysosomal enzymes, the effects of androgens on DNA and RNA synthesis in sex accessory tissue, and the experimental carcinogenesis of the prostate. The book includes in vivo and in vitro studies on prostatic carcinoma and concludes with a chapter on functional and structural changes in male accessory sex organs during aging. This book is invaluable to biomedical scientists, pathologists, and researchers interested in the biology and pathology of male accessory sex organs.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cell biology is moving at breakneck speed, and many of the results from studies on insects have helped in understanding some of the central problems of biology. The time is therefore ripe to provide the scientific community with a series of up-to-date, well illustrated reviews of selected aspects of the sub microscopic cytology of insects. The topics we have included fall into four general groups: seven chapters deal with gametogenesis, four concern develop ing somatic cells, seventeen chapters describe specialized tissues and organs, and three chapters cover cells in pathological states. These accounts are illustrated with over 600 electron micrographs. The more than 1100 pages in the two volumes of Insect Ultrastructure combined labors of 49 dedicated contributors from II countries. represent the These authors have digested and critically summarized a very large body of information, and some measure of this effort can be gained from consulting the bibliographies that close each of the 31 chapters. These contain 2400 publica tions authored by 1500 different scientists. However, before we congratulate ourselves on the advanced state of our knowledge, it is worth remembering that representatives of less than 0.01 % of the known species of insects have been examined with the electron microscope.

Book Compendium of Histology

Download or read book Compendium of Histology written by Anders Rehfeld and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-09-07 with total page 670 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has been designed to help medical students succeed with their histology classes, while using less time on studying the curriculum. The book can both be used on its own or as a supplement to the classical full-curriculum textbooks normally used by the students for their histology classes. Covering the same curriculum as the classical textbooks, from basic tissue histology to the histology of specific organs, this book is formatted and organized in a much simpler and intuitive way. Almost all text is formatted in bullets or put into structured tables. This makes it quick and easy to digest, helping the student get a good overview of the curriculum. It is easy to locate specific information in the text, such as the size of cellular structures etc. Additionally, each chapter includes simplified illustrations of various histological features. The aim of the book is to be used to quickly brush up on the curriculum, e.g. before a class or an exam. Additionally, the book includes guides to distinguish between the different histological tissues and organs that can be presented to students microscopically, e.g. during a histology spot test. This guide lists the specific characteristics of the different histological specimens and also describes how to distinguish a specimen from other similar specimens. For each histological specimen, a simplified drawing and a photomicrograph of the specimen, is presented to help the student recognize the important characteristics in the microscope. Lastly, the book contains multiple “memo boxes” in which parts of the curriculum are presented as easy-to-remember mnemonics.

Download or read book Infertility in the Male written by Larry I. Lipshultz and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2009-09-24 with total page 691 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The new edition of this canonical text on male reproductive medicine will cement the book's market-leading position. Practitioners across many specialties - including urologists, gynecologists, reproductive endocrinologists, medical endocrinologists and many in internal medicine and family practice – will see men with suboptimal fertility and reproductive problems. The book provides an excellent source of timely, well-considered information for those training in this young and rapidly evolving field. While several recent books provide targeted 'cookbooks' for those in a male reproductive laboratory, or quick reference for practising generalists, the modern, comprehensive reference providing both a background for male reproductive medicine as well as clinical practice information based on that foundation has been lacking until now. The book has been extensively revised with a particular focus on modern molecular medicine. Appropriate therapeutic interventions are highlighted throughout.

Book Ultrastructure of the Male Urogenital Glands

Download or read book Ultrastructure of the Male Urogenital Glands written by Allessandro Riva and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Male urogenital glands (also named male accessory sex glands) have received relatively little attention from electron microscopists, with the possible exception of the prostate gland. Moreover, even though comparative studies have clearly shown that these glands exhibit species-dependent features, very few studies, scattered over various publications, are available on the urogenital glands of man. This volume, the 11th of the series on Electron Microscopy in Biology and Medicine, presents an unprecedented collection of information on the functional microanatomy and cytoarchitecture of these organs in humans. Through the integration of transmission and scanning electron microscopy with a variety of modern techniques, it documents the most important aspects of the histophysiology of these glands from their development to some pathological alterations. In order to cover some key mechanisms of their cell biology, such as the action of sex hormones, the epithelio-mesenchymal interactions, and the dynamic of the secretory process, reports on human organs have been supplemented by some studies on experimental animals. The outstanding level of the contributions and the quality of the illustrations make this book, which has been compiled by some of the world authorities on the topic, a work of reference for students, scientists, and professionals interested in biomedical foundations of andrology, as well as a stimulus for future research in this exciting and relatively neglected chapter of human reproduction.
