Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: World Bank Technical Paper 225. Inefficient civil service administrations are jeopardizing future development in many African countries. The reforms suggested in this paper would make these administrations more accountable, enforce the rule of law, and reward bureaucrats solely on their performance. This approach could help relieve the private sector of disabling regulations, improve services and tax collection, and shift funding away from special interests and toward essential economic programs. Three flexible reform packages are provided. They feature strategies that address varying degrees of inefficiency within a given administration. Also available in French: (ISBN 0-8213-2764-X) Stock No. 12764.

Book Growth Structural Change and Regional Inequality in Malaysia

Download or read book Growth Structural Change and Regional Inequality in Malaysia written by Asan Ali Golam Hassan and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-30 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Economic development in the long run is seen as a process of structural change that is affected by economic growth. Malaysia is one of the middle-income economies that are going through rapid structural change. Since the mid 1980s it has changed to an industrially based economy with large-scale export of electrical and electronic components. However, thirty years after Malaysia's re-distributive policies have been exercised, regional inequality still exists. This book examines the nature and impact of regional policies in relation to the patterns of demographic and economic structural change and in relation to growth, distribution and income disparities across regions in Peninsular Malaysia. The book also explores the degree to which differences in regional manufacturing distribution and concentration have contributed to regional inequality. It concludes with a number of recommendations for regional policies that will reduce this inequality.

It explains the projections of population and demographic change and its bearing on government policies. It evaluates the country’s education sector and discusses the strategies to improve its role in the country further. It argues for replacing ethnic-based approaches with a needs-based system for the future direction to build a plural Malaysia. Book Lao PDR

    Book Details:
  • Author : Asian Development Bank
  • Publisher : Asian Development Bank
  • Release : 2017-11-01
  • ISBN : 9292579940
  • Pages : 314 pages

Download or read book Lao PDR written by Asian Development Bank and published by Asian Development Bank. This book was released on 2017-11-01 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Lao People's Democratic Republic (Lao PDR) has shown remarkable progress by consistently building itself into a market-oriented economy, with economic growth in 1986-2016 averaging around 6.5% per annum. The rapid and sustained growth brought about changes in the structure of output, but did not alter job composition: resource-based products still dominate in industry, low value-added jobs in services, and 65% of the labor force in agriculture. This country diagnostic study provides comprehensive analysis and identifies promising new drivers of growth which the Lao PDR can develop to diversify its production structure and speed up structural transformation.
