Book Transcendental Meditation

Download or read book Transcendental Meditation written by Jack Forem and published by New York : Dutton. This book was released on 1973 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Maharishi Mahesh Yogi (1917-2008) was one of the great spiritual teachers of our time. University trained in physics, the Maharishi was a pioneer in uniting the scientific approach of the West with the ancient spiritual wisdom of India. He is best known for introducing the practice of Transcendental Meditation (TM), a simple, natural method of allowing the mind to reach its most silent level--a field of pure creativity, energy, and peace. TM, Maharishi said, offers every individual not only a gateway to the highest spiritual unfoldment, but also sound physical and mental health, greater ability in action, a greater capacity to think clearly, increased efficiency in work, and more loving and rewarding relationships with others. Over the past 40 years, millions of people around the world and more than 250 published scientific studies have consistently corroborated these lofty claims. In this classic book, Jack Forem points out the practical application of TM to a broad spectrum of concerns. He reviews research focusing especially on neurophysiological evidence for attaining higher states of consciousness, and the surprising ability of large groups of people meditating together to generate social coherence and global harmony. Throughout the book, Forem draws parallels between the teachings of Maharishi; ancient wisdom from various cultures; and insights gleaned from modern-day physics, psychology, ecology, and other disciplines. Interviews with men and women of every age and occupation provide a lively testimonial to the efficacy of TM in making one's life happier and more creative. --

Book I Believe in Satan s Downfall

Download or read book I Believe in Satan s Downfall written by Michael Green and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2023-09-28 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Satan is real—on that the Bible is certain—but so is his ultimate defeat. High among the list of traditional Christian doctrines that have fallen into disrepute is belief in Satan. Many theologians and laypersons find belief in the devil ridiculous in our enlightened age. Michael Green pushes back against this assumption and offers a biblical account of evil and the certainty of its defeat. He calls Christians to take seriously the spiritual battle in which followers of Christ are necessarily engaged, and to recognize both the strength of the devil and the greater strength of the living God. “Satan will be defeated and abolished. Eternity will not be disfigured by the self-seeking, deceit, hatred, and accusations of the Adversary, but God will be all in all and the redeemed will be for ever satisfied with their Lord, who has turned Paradise lost into Paradise regained.”

Book Transcendental Meditation

Download or read book Transcendental Meditation written by Jack Forem and published by Hay House, Inc. This book was released on 2012-10-08 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transcendental Meditation (TM) is a simple, natural method of allowing the mind to go beyond thoughts and gain access to the silent inner field of creativity, energy, peace, and happiness that is our own essential nature, our Self. Widely known and prescribed by physicians for its powerful stress-reducing effects, TM is much more than that. Maharishi Mahesh Yogi (1918–2008), who brought TM to the West, said that TM offers any individual not only a gateway to the highest spiritual unfoldment (Enlightenment), but also "sound physical and mental health, greater ability in action, a greater capacity to think clearly, increased efficiency in work, and more loving and rewarding relationships with others." Five million TM practitioners around the world and more than 360 published, peer-reviewed scientific studies have consistently corroborated these lofty claims. Described as "a great book, by far the most comprehensive on the TM Program" when it was a bestseller in its original version, Jack Forem’s study of TM became a much-loved classic. This updated edition contains all the features of the original plus much more. Clear, easy-to-read diagrams explain scientific research showing TM’s beneficial effect on the brain and a broad spectrum of contemporary concerns, from health, self-actualization, and development of intelligence to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and much more. In these pages: · Oprah Winfrey tells how she has offered TM to everyone on her staff. · Dr. Mehmet Oz explains the benefits of TM for heart health. · School principals describe the dramatically positive effect on their students when TM is introduced in the classroom. Interviews with celebrities as well as men and women of every age, background, and religion provide a lively testimonial to the efficacy of TM in making anyone’s life happier, healthier, and more creative.

Download or read book The Healing Gods written by Candy Gunther Brown and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2013-07-30 with total page 715 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The question typically asked about complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) is whether it works. However, an issue of equal or greater significance is why it is supposed to work. The Healing Gods: Complementary and Alternative Medicine in Christian America explains how and why CAM entered the American biomedical mainstream and won cultural acceptance, even among evangelical and other theologically conservative Christians, despite its ties to non-Christian religions and the lack of scientific evidence of its efficacy and safety. Before the 1960s, most of the practices Candy Gunther Brown considers-yoga, chiropractic, acupuncture, Reiki, Therapeutic Touch, meditation, martial arts, homeopathy, anticancer diets-were dismissed as medically and religiously questionable. These once-suspect health practices gained approval as they were re-categorized as non-religious (though generically spiritual) health-care, fitness, or scientific techniques. Although CAM claims are similar to religious claims, CAM gained cultural legitimacy because people interpret it as science instead of religion. Holistic health care raises ethical and legal questions of informed consent, consumer protection, and religious establishment at the center of biomedical ethics, tort law, and constitutional law. The Healing Gods confronts these issues, getting to the heart of values such as personal autonomy, self-determination, religious equality, and religious voluntarism.
