Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If you are reading this journal, please stop - right now. It's mine, meant for my eyes alone. I'm constantly losing my things, and I don't care if you found it in a second-hand bookstore or a tea shop, because this is a private notebook. My travels around India, documenting a hundred mythical creatures, are deeply personal. I hope to compile my findings and publish them someday. It's then that you can know more about the fierce Asunam that are beguiled by forest music and the Manticores that roam the deserts in the west, or the Thlen that terrorize the north-east and the Makaras that patrol the southern seas...but wait for it! There's no reason for you to be reading someone else's diary. Mail me at [email protected], so that you can return it. Immediately.

Niringiye examines several formative periods for the Church of Uganda during concurrent chronological political eras characterized by varying degrees of socio-political turbulence, highlighting how the social context impacted the church’s self-expression. Book Negotiating Public Services in the Congo

Download or read book Negotiating Public Services in the Congo written by Tom De Herdt and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2019-06-15 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has been widely derided as a failed state, unable to meet the basic needs of its citizens. But while state infrastructure continues to decay, many essential services continue to be provided at the local level, often through grassroots initiatives. So while, for example, state funding for education is almost non-existent, average school enrolment remains well above average for Sub-Saharan Africa. This book addresses this paradox, bringing together key scholars working on public services in the DRC to elucidate the evolving nature of governance in developing countries. Its contributions encompass a wide range of public services, including education, justice, transport, and health. Taking stock of what functions and why, it contributes to the debate on public services in the context of 'real' or 'hybrid' governance beyond the state: does the state still have a function, or is it no longer useful and relevant? Crucially, how does international aid help or complicate this picture? Rich in empirical detail, the contributors provide a valuable work for students and scholars interested in the role played by non-state actors in organizing statehood – a role too often neglected in debates on post-conflict reconstruction.

Book Violence in African Elections

Download or read book Violence in African Elections written by Mimmi Söderberg Kovacs and published by Zed Books Ltd.. This book was released on 2018-04-15 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multiparty elections have become the bellwether by which all democracies are judged, and the spread of these systems across Africa has been widely hailed as a sign of the continent’s progress towards stability and prosperity. But such elections bring their own challenges, particularly the often intense internecine violence following disputed results. While the consequences of such violence can be profound, undermining the legitimacy of the democratic process and in some cases plunging countries into civil war or renewed dictatorship, little is known about the causes. By mapping, analysing and comparing instances of election violence in different localities across Africa – including Kenya, Ivory Coast and Uganda – this collection of detailed case studies sheds light on the underlying dynamics and sub-national causes behind electoral conflicts, revealing them to be the result of a complex interplay between democratisation and the older, patronage-based system of ‘Big Man’ politics. Essential for scholars and policymakers across the social sciences and humanities interested in democratization, peace-keeping and peace studies, Violence in African Elections provides important insights into why some communities prove more prone to electoral violence than others, offering practical suggestions for preventing violence through improved electoral monitoring, voter education, and international assistance.

Book Celestial Matrix in Naadi Astrology

Download or read book Celestial Matrix in Naadi Astrology written by Satyanarayana Naik and published by sagar publications. This book was released on with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A unique system of analysis based on zonal effect of rasis and planets posited therein and influenced by other planets from specified places is the main principle of Bhrigu Nandi Nadi expounded by R.G.Rao of Bangalore. Based on his works earlier book “Prediction Secrets- Naadi Astrology” was published. In the process of experimentation with the combination of the planets it was found that every birth has a set-pattern of planetary positions. The matrix formed at macro level indicates the purpose of the birth. At micro level with zonal and star influences detailed study of nativity will reveal many secrets. The star level needs to be explored with details of stars from the sacred texts. But the place of birth having different Year Lords, Month Lord the Day Lord, Hora Lord and Sub Hora Lord have equal influence in differentiating nativities. In this book an effort is made to identify the matrix at macro level for certain births. A deep analysis with the aid of Hora Lords etc. will definitely give the purpose of birth. Even with little efforts we can go to previous births. The horoscope of yogis are dealt with reference to Sub Hora Lords. There is also an example of analysing horoscopes having similar planetary combinations. This is a beginning of research in Naadi Astrology and the days are not far to reach the truth behind the Celestial Matrix influenced by subtle bodies. This is a handbook on Naadi System for the students and astrologers to develop further in the subject.

Book We Were Caught Unprepared

Download or read book We Were Caught Unprepared written by Matt M. Matthews and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2011 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a print on demand edition of a hard to find publication. The fact that the outcome of the 2006 Hezbollah-Israeli War was, at best, a stalemate for Israel has confounded military analysts. Long considered the most professional and powerful army in the Middle East, with a history of impressive military victories against its enemies, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) emerged from the campaign with its enemies undefeated and its prestige tarnished. This historical analysis of the war includes an examination of IDF and Hezbollah doctrine prior to the war, as well as an overview of the operational and tactical problems encountered by the IDF during the war. The IDF ground forces were tactically unprepared and untrained to fight against a determined Hezbollah force. ¿An insightful, comprehensive examination of the war.¿ Illustrations.
