Book Magnetohydrodynamic Shock Relations in Nonaligned Flows

Download or read book Magnetohydrodynamic Shock Relations in Nonaligned Flows written by Y Lynn and published by Legare Street Press. This book was released on 2023-07-18 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this groundbreaking work of mathematical physics, Y. Lynn provides a detailed analysis of the shock relations that arise in magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flows that are not aligned with the magnetic field. Drawing on advanced techniques from fluid dynamics and electrodynamics, Lynn shows how these complex phenomena can be understood and modeled, with implications for a range of fields including astrophysics, plasmas, and materials science. Book Linearized Analysis of One Dimensional Magnetohydrodynamic Flows

Download or read book Linearized Analysis of One Dimensional Magnetohydrodynamic Flows written by Roy M. Gundersen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-09 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Magnetohydrodynamics is concerned with the motion of electrically conducting fluids in the presence of electric or magnetic fields. Un fortunately, the subject has a rather poorly developed experimental basis and because of the difficulties inherent in carrying out controlled laboratory experiments, the theoretical developments, in large measure, have been concerned with finding solutions to rather idealized problems. This lack of experimental basis need not become, however, a multi megohm impedance in the line of progress in the development of a satisfactory scientific theory. While it is true that ultimately a scientific theory must agree with and, in actuality, predict physical phenomena with a reasonable degree of accuracy, such a theory must be sanctioned by its mathematical validity and consistency. Physical phenomena may be expressed precisely and quite comprehensively through the use of differential equations, and the equations formulated by LUNDQUIST and discussed by FRIEDRICHS belong to a class of equations particularly well-understood and extensively studied. This class includes, in fact, many other eminent members, the solutions of which have led to results of far-reaching scientific and technological application. Frequently, the mathematical analysis has provided the foundations and guidance necessary for further developments, and, reciprocally, the physical problems have provided, in many cases, the impetus for the development of new mathematical theories which often have evolved to an a priori unpredictable extent.

Book Non uniform Magnetohydrodynamic Shock Propagation with Special Refernce to Cylindrical and Spherical Shock Waves

Download or read book Non uniform Magnetohydrodynamic Shock Propagation with Special Refernce to Cylindrical and Spherical Shock Waves written by Roy M. Gundersen and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 35 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Previous work on non-uniform shock propagation in monatomic conducting gases is generalized to an arbitrary value of the adiabatic index. Specifically, the perturbation generated when an initially uniform hydromagnetic shock of arbitrary strength impinges on an area variation is determined, the problem being linearized on the basis of small area variations. When the shock encounters the area change, the shock strength is altered, and the subsequent flow is non-isentropic. There are two distinct contributions to the perturbation, namely, a permanent perturbation due to the area change and a transient reflected disturbance, and expressions for these are obtained. A first order relation between area change and shock strength is obtained and integrated numerically to give an area-shock strength relationship valid for channels with finite continuous area variation. Particular area distributions are utilized to discuss converging cylindrical and spherical hydromagnetic shocks. The present theory includes results on non-uniform gas dynamic shock propagation as a special case.

Book Theoretical Magnetofluiddynamics

Download or read book Theoretical Magnetofluiddynamics written by Henri Cabannes and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theoretical Magnetofluiddynamics provides an overview of the state of knowledge in magnetofluiddynamics and its applications. Magnetofluiddynamics is concerned with the study of the interaction between magnetic fields and fluid conductors of electricity. This discipline serves to unite classical fluid mechanics with electromagnetism of media in motion; therefore, it is equally of interest to students of electrodynamics and to those of aerodynamics. The former always think of speeds which are of the order of the speed of light while the latter confine their attention to speeds which are of the order of the speed of sound. This book contains six chapters and begins by establishing equations of magnetofluiddynamics in detail, both for motion with shock waves and for continuous motion. Subsequent chapters deal with weak discontinuities or discontinuities in the derivatives of the characteristic flow quantities; strong discontinuities or discontinuities in the characteristic flow quantities; and one-dimensional motion, motion in ducts, and structure of shock waves; and motion past obstacles.

Book The Structure of Shock Waves in Magnetohydrodynamics

Download or read book The Structure of Shock Waves in Magnetohydrodynamics written by Mahmud Hesaaraki and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1984 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the presence of magnetic induction and electrical fields several types of discontinuities may exist in an electrically conducting fluid. These phenomena can be described by the laws of conservation of mass, momentum, and energy; Maxwell's electromagnetic equations, and Ohm's law. Those discontinuities, which can be characterized by the conditions that both the temperature and density change across them are different from zero, are called magneto-hydrodynamic shock waves. This monograph is concerned with the study of these types of discontinuities.
