Book Magnetohydrodynamic Nozzle Flow with Three Transitions Classic Reprint

Download or read book Magnetohydrodynamic Nozzle Flow with Three Transitions Classic Reprint written by C. K. Chu and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-04-25 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Magnetohydrodynamic Nozzle Flow With Three Transitions This paper gives a formal power series solution (near the axis of symmetry) for the plane nozzle flow of an infinitely conducting inviscid gas with a magnetic field everywhere parallel to the flow velocity. The gas expands from near-reservoir condi tions to supersonic velocities in the nozzle. When an ordinary non-conducting gas expands from rest to supersonic velocities in a de Laval nozzle, it is well-known that the gas crosses a sonic transition (near the throat of the nozzle), upstream of which the flow is subsonic and governed by an elliptic differential equation, and downstream of which the flow is supersonic and governed by a hyperbolic differential equation. Moreover, we know that such a flow is stable, whereas the reverse flow supersonic flow slowing down to subsonic flow through continuous compression) is unstable, and thus occurs physically only when accompanied by shocks. Book The Theory of Aligned fields Magnetogasdynamic Flows

Download or read book The Theory of Aligned fields Magnetogasdynamic Flows written by A. Richard Seebass and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The isentropic flow of an ideal conductor in the presence of a magnetic field is treated for the case of aligned fields. Particular attention is paid to flow regimes where the existing linearized theory fails because of a change in character of the governing equations. The equations for the stream function and a new potential function are derived, and the behavior of their characteristics determined. These equations are then transformed to hodograph variables, in which they become linear. Several exact solutions are considered in detail. Separation of variables in these hodograph equations results in a complicated differential equation, which is discussed briefly. Finally, the approximate equations appropriate to each transition are derived, and simple solutions exhibiting these transitions are given. (Author).

Book Non Linear Wave Propagation With Applications to Physics and Magnetohydrodynamics by A Jeffrey and T Taniuti

Download or read book Non Linear Wave Propagation With Applications to Physics and Magnetohydrodynamics by A Jeffrey and T Taniuti written by and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2000-04-01 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, we study theoretical and practical aspects of computing methods for mathematical modelling of nonlinear systems. A number of computing techniques are considered, such as methods of operator approximation with any given accuracy; operator interpolation techniques including a non-Lagrange interpolation; methods of system representation subject to constraints associated with concepts of causality, memory and stationarity; methods of system representation with an accuracy that is the best within a given class of models; methods of covariance matrix estimation;methods for low-rank matrix approximations; hybrid methods based on a combination of iterative procedures and best operator approximation; andmethods for information compression and filtering under condition that a filter model should satisfy restrictions associated with causality and different types of memory. As a result, the book represents a blend of new methods in general computational analysis, and specific, but also generic, techniques for study of systems theory ant its particularbranches, such as optimal filtering and information compression.- Best operator approximation,- Non-Lagrange interpolation,- Generic Karhunen-Loeve transform- Generalised low-rank matrix approximation- Optimal data compression- Optimal nonlinear filtering

Book Progress in Aeronautical Sciences

Download or read book Progress in Aeronautical Sciences written by D. Küchemann and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-07-04 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Progress in Aeronautical Sciences, Volume 5, contains six articles that belong to the field of aerodynamics. This accords well with one of the declared purposes of this series, to serve the general reader with accounts of those parts of the subject remote from his specialized interest, not only because his field of specialization is likely to change during his career but also because we are all students of one science. The first paper gives a comprehensive survey of low-speed wind-tunnels, those early tools of the aerodynamicist which seem likely to retain their importance indefinitely. The second deals with a basic feature of the separation of a laminar boundary layer from a wall in two-dimensional flow: the bubble. The third reports on the more theoretical aspects of the IUTAM Symposium Transsonicum, which afforded a reunion of almost everyone who at one time or another had contributed to our knowledge of flows of mixed type. The fourth paper is concerned with a particular aspect of the theory of transonic flows and gives an exhaustive survey of this work. The fifth paper reports on a symposium devoted to rarefied gas dynamics. The final paper presents corrections to an article on the theory of sonic bangs, published in Volume 1 of this series.

Book Elliptic Hyperbolic Partial Differential Equations

Download or read book Elliptic Hyperbolic Partial Differential Equations written by Thomas H. Otway and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-07-08 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text is a concise introduction to the partial differential equations which change from elliptic to hyperbolic type across a smooth hypersurface of their domain. These are becoming increasingly important in diverse sub-fields of both applied mathematics and engineering, for example: • The heating of fusion plasmas by electromagnetic waves • The behaviour of light near a caustic • Extremal surfaces in the space of special relativity • The formation of rapids; transonic and multiphase fluid flow • The dynamics of certain models for elastic structures • The shape of industrial surfaces such as windshields and airfoils • Pathologies of traffic flow • Harmonic fields in extended projective space They also arise in models for the early universe, for cosmic acceleration, and for possible violation of causality in the interiors of certain compact stars. Within the past 25 years, they have become central to the isometric embedding of Riemannian manifolds and the prescription of Gauss curvature for surfaces: topics in pure mathematics which themselves have important applications. Elliptic−Hyperbolic Partial Differential Equations is derived from a mini-course given at the ICMS Workshop on Differential Geometry and Continuum Mechanics held in Edinburgh, Scotland in June 2013. The focus on geometry in that meeting is reflected in these notes, along with the focus on quasilinear equations. In the spirit of the ICMS workshop, this course is addressed both to applied mathematicians and to mathematically-oriented engineers. The emphasis is on very recent applications and methods, the majority of which have not previously appeared in book form.
