Book Chinese Discourses on the Peasant 1900 1949

Download or read book Chinese Discourses on the Peasant 1900 1949 written by Xiaorong Han and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 2012-02-01 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Xiaorong Han explores how Chinese intellectuals envisioned the peasantry and its role in changing society during the first half of the twentieth century. Politically motivated intellectuals, both Communist and non-Communist, believed that rural peasants and their villages would be at the heart of change during this long period of national crisis. Nevertheless, intellectuals saw themselves as the true shapers of change who would transform and use the peasantry. Han uses intellectuals' writings to provide a comprehensive look at their views of the peasantry. He shows how intellectuals with varying politics created images of the peasant—a supposed contemporary image and an ideal image of the peasant transformed for political ends, how intellectuals theorized on the nature of Chinese rural life, and how intellectuals conceived their own relationships with peasants.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When I started in magnetic recording nearly fifty years ago, it was easy to perceive the common sense of it. There was very little mathematics and every new finding was a source of wonder. I have tried to recapture this spirit with simple explanations, while maintaining a high density of infonnation and cov ering the entire field. This book introduces a novice to magnetic recording and its many branches. It includes reference data for designers and users. Each chapter stands by itself; no prerequisites are essential. For a quick survey, the equations and worked out examples can be disregarded. The magnetic recording art is changing so rapidly that new advances are announced almost every month. These are properly covered by journal articles and manufacturers' catalogs. This book will fulfil its purpose if it gives a back ground for easily comprehending the new advances. I have included subjects and devices not found elsewhere, and some unconventional viewpoints. I would welcome comments from readers. To Jay McKnight I am deeply grateful for important suggestions and helpful comments. I appreciate also the help of BASF, John Boyers, Joseph Dundovic, Charles Ginsburg, Peter Hammar, Yasuo Imaoka, Hal Kaitchuk, Otto Kornei, Harold Miller, Jack Mullin, Jim Novak, Lenard Perlman, Carl Powell, Sidney Rubens, John Shennan, Shigeo Shima, Heinz Thiele, Yoshimi Watanabe and many others; and to my daughter Ruth for typing.

Book A History of Mass Communication

Download or read book A History of Mass Communication written by Irving Fang and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 1997-02-27 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This exciting new text traces the common themes in the long and complex history of mass communication. It shows how the means of communicating grew out of their eras, how they developed, how they influenced the societies of those eras, and how they have continued to exert their influence upon subsequent generations. The book is divided into six periods which are identified as 'Information Revolutions' writing, printing, mass media, entertainment, the 'toolshed' (which we call 'home' now), and the Information Highway. In looking at the ways in which the tools of communication have influenced and been influenced by social change, A History of Mass Communication provides students of media and journalism with a strong sense of the way their chosen field affects how society functions. Providing a broad-based approach to media history, Dr. Fang encourages the reader to take a careful look at where our culture is headed through the tools we use to communicate with one another. A History of Mass Communication is not only the most current text on communication history, but also an invaluable resource for anyone interested in how methods of communication affect society.
