Book Electromagnetic Nondestructive Evaluation

Download or read book Electromagnetic Nondestructive Evaluation written by Toshiyuki Takagi and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 1997 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Eddy current testing is a key technology among electromagnetic non-destructive testings at present and this situation was motivated by a stringent need to detect small cracks in tubing of a steam generator of nuclear power plants. In these five years the ECT technology has been enhanced very much, demonstrating that high performanced sensors for ECT are now ready to be applied to the annual inspection of steam generator tubing with use of arrayed micro sensors for ECT. In addition to the innovative technology, an inversion technique is being theoretically developed to make reconstruction of defects possible with use of data from the arrayed sensors. Rapid growth of interest in electromagnetic nondestructive evaluation have brought together experts from different parts of the world, as reflected in this work. The book is intended for engineers, researchers and practitioners working in the area of electromagnetism.

Book Mechanics of Nondestructive Testing

Download or read book Mechanics of Nondestructive Testing written by Stinchcomb and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 407 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The synergism of the mechanics of nondestructive testing and the mechanics of materials response has great potential value in an era of rapid development of new materials and new applications for con ventional materials. The two areas are closely related and an advance in one area often leads to an advance in the other. As our understanding of basic principles increases, nondestructive testing is outgrowing the image of "black box techniques" and is rapidly becoming a legitimate technical area of science and engineering. At the present time, however, an understanding of the mechanics of nondestructive testing is lagging behind other advances in the field. The key to further development in the mechanics of nondestructive testing lies in the mechanics of the phenomena or response being investigated - a better understanding of materials response suggests better nondestructive test methods to investigate the response which, in turn, advances our understanding of materials response, and so on. With this approach in mind, the Materials Response Group of the Engineering Science and Mechanics Department at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University hosted a Conference on the Mechanics of Nondestructive Testing on September 10 through 12, 1980. Sponsors of the conference were the Army Research Office, the National Science Foundation, and the Engineering Science and Mechanics Department.

Book Review of Progress in Quantitative Nondestructive Evaluation

Download or read book Review of Progress in Quantitative Nondestructive Evaluation written by Donald O. Thompson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 1200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the current volume, consisting of Parts A and B, edited vers ions of most of the papers presented at the annual Review of Progress in Quantitative Nondestructive Evaluation held at Bowdoin College, Brunswick, Maine on July 28-August 2, 1991 have been collected. The Review was organized by the Center for NDE at Iowa State University and the Ames Laboratory of the USDOE in cooperation with a number of organizations including the Air Force Materials Directorate, Wright Laboratory, Wright Patterson Air Force Base, the American Society for Nondestructive Testing, the Center for NDE at Johns Hopkins University, Department of Energy, Federal Aviation Administration, National Institute of Standards and Technology, National Science Foundation IndustryjUniversity Cooperative Research Centers, and the Office of Naval Research. The 1991 Review of Progress in QNDE was attended by approximately 450 participants from the US and many foreign countries who presented over 360 papers. Divided into 36 sessions, with as many as four sessions running concurrently, the meeting covered all phases of NDE development from basic research to engineering applications and all methods of inspection science from acoustics to x-rays. Over the past ten years, the participants of the Review have seen it grow into one of the largest and most significant gatherings of NDE researchers and engineers anywhere in the world. By sharing their work at this conference, they deserve much credit for its success.

Book Review of Progress in Quantitative Nondestructive Evaluation

Download or read book Review of Progress in Quantitative Nondestructive Evaluation written by Donald Thompson and published by Springer. This book was released on 1982-09 with total page 840 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Perhaps the largest symposium held annually in the area of quantitative nondestructive evaluation is the one which resulted in this book. The 1981 Review of Progress in Quantitative Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) was held August 2-7 at the University of Colorado in Boulder. While the review was sponsored by the Materials Laboratory of the Air Force Wright Aeronautical Laboratories and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency as part of their sponsored research conducted through the Ames Laboratory of the U.S. Department of Energy, nearly 300 attendees, representing other government agencies and the industrial and university communities as well, participated in the technical presentations, poster sessions and discussions. The program emphasized various areas of interest in quantitative NDE, including topics related to the development of quantitative ultrasonic and eddy current techniques, other emerging techniques, considerations of im provements needed in the probability of flaw detection, and engineering applications which follow from technology transfer of research results. An example of this transfer is the utilization of the Born inversion algorithm for flaw sizing. The keynote address, "NDE--A Key to Enhanced Producti vity," was deli vered by Dr. Norman Tallan, Chief Scientist at the Air Force Materials Laboratory. Dr. Tallan's presentation concerned the importance and potential pay-off of moving the NDE inspection procedure forward to provide in-process inspection and control for manufacturing. This step requires the utilization of concepts and research pursued in quantitative NDE activities and the initiation of other key steps.
