Book excerpt: At age four, Mary, the mother of Jesus of Nazareth, made her first journey. Mary traveled with her family to Jerusalem for her Presentation to the Temple. Some of the other journeys taken during her lifetime included trips to Jutta, Bethlehem, Matarea, and Heliopolis, as well as many other trips to Jerusalem. When her son Jesus began his public ministry, Mary moved from Nazareth to Capharnaum. With her friends, the Holy Women, she followed Jesus as he traveled around Galilee and throughout the Holy Land. Ultimately, Mary followed Jesus to the foot of the cross. To protect Mary from the persecutions that followed the death and Resurrection of her son, St. John the Evangelist took Mary with him to Ephesus, Turkey to live. Mary journeyed to Jerusalem and back to Ephesus before ending her earthly life in Ephesus. The Journeys of Mary is the story of Marys life and the life, Passion, and death of her son. In Part II of the trilogy, Mary arrives in Ephesus and establishes her home there. With the help of St. John and Mary Magdalene who comes to visit, Mary creates a Way of the Cross as a reminder of the suffering her son endured. As she walks the path, Mary recalls the capture, trials, and judgment of Jesus, as well as the details of his Crucifixion. Other events that occur as part of her life in Ephesus trigger memories of her earlier life in Nazareth and Capharnaum. The Journeys of Mary is the story of both the interior journey Mary takes as the mother of Jesus and the exterior journeys she takes as she lives out her life fulfilling the will of God.

Book Mary Magdalene Bride in Exile

Download or read book Mary Magdalene Bride in Exile written by Margaret Starbird and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2005-08-16 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An in-depth investigation of the facts and mythology surrounding the historical Mary Magdalene • Reveals new details about the life of the beloved of Jesus • Illustrated with rare and unusual imagery depicting Mary’s central role in Christianity • By the author of the bestselling The Woman with the Alabaster Jar The controversy surrounding Mary Magdalene and her relationship to Jesus has gained widespread international interest since the publication of Dan Brown’s novel The Da Vinci Code, which specifically cites Margaret Starbird’s earlier works as a significant source. In Mary Magdalene, Bride in Exile Starbird examines the many faces of Mary Magdalene, from the historical woman who walked with Jesus in the villages of Judea to the mythic and symbolic Magdalene who is the archetype of the Sacred Feminine. Starbird reveals exciting new information about the woman who was the most intimate companion of Jesus and offers historical evidence that Mary was Jesus’ forgotten bride. Expanding on the discussion of medieval art and lore introduced in her bestselling book The Woman with the Alabaster Jar, Starbird sifts through the layers of misidentification under which the story of the Lost Bride of Christ has been buried to reveal the slandered woman and the “exiled” feminine principle. She establishes the identity of the historical female disciple who was the favored first witness of the Resurrection and provides an interpretation of Mary’s true role based on prophecy from the Hebrew scriptures and the testimony of the canonical gospels of Christianity. Balancing scholarly research with theological reflection, she takes readers deeper into the story and mythology of how Magdalene as the Bride embodies the soul’s own journey in its eternal quest for reunion with the Divine.

Book Mary Magdalene the Thirteenth Disciple

Download or read book Mary Magdalene the Thirteenth Disciple written by Dr. Pat Kubis and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2011-03-03 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THIS IS A LOVE STORY, the tale of a woman who dream of love and power and found more than she dreamed. It is a historical romance with mystical tones. In Magdala 17 A.D.: the young Jewish woman, Mary is entranced by a golden lover on a white horse -- the Roman Centurion Quintus Gallus. Sensuous, with powerful emotions, born with "second sight" (clairvoyance), she sees fragments of her future life. Seduced by Quintus, she is later captured by Arabs and escapes to Caesarea, only to be thrown into a life of prostitution. She becomes a courtesan in Caesarea, and for a time the mistress of Pontius Pilate. But her painful love for Quintus leads to hashish and finally insanity; she is "possessed" by a devil, a dark voice in her mind. Mad on the streets, and tormented by the "devil", she faces stoning, but is rescued by a strange Galilean who has marvelous powers of healing: Jesus of Nazareth. It is Jesus who reveals the real mysteries of Love to Mary and what teacher her to "walk the rainbow" to spiritual individuation. Pontius Pilate, the centurion Quintus Gallus, a disciple named Judas, the Devil himself, and the Nazarene prophet, Jesus are the alchemical agents that transform a prostitute into a saint --the legendary woman of the Bible who anointed the Master's feet and dried them with her hair. This is a novel of people, adventure and passion. It is written for every woman who "loved and lost," but did not understand the significance of what happened. This book is also a Jungian alchemical parable of transmutation and it has much meaning for those interested in mystical Christianity, yoga, holistic health, ESP, and mythology of the Joseph Campbellian variety. Mary is a Biblical hero, but she is also the eternally questing hero of the mythic round; and if Jesus is the Biblical Christ, He is also that Magus figure who leads men to a higher state of consciousness. This is the story of a woman of passion who achieved the gate of heaven. For every true lover ... and especially RK.

Book Mary Magdalene

Download or read book Mary Magdalene written by Bruce Chilton and published by Image. This book was released on 2005-11-01 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After 2,000 years of flawed history, here at last is a magnificent new biography of Mary Magdalene that draws her out of the shadows of history and restores her to her rightful place of importance in Christianity. Throughout history, Mary Magdalene has been both revered and reviled, a woman who has taken on many forms—witch, whore, the incarnation of the eternal feminine, the devoted companion (and perhaps even the wife) of Jesus. In this brilliant new biography, Bruce Chilton, a renowned biblical scholar, offers the first complete and authoritative portrait of this fascinating woman. Through groundbreaking interpretations of ancient texts, Chilton shows that Mary played a central role in Jesus’ ministry and was a seminal figure in the creation of Christianity. Chilton traces the evolving images of Mary Magdalene and the legends surrounding her. He explains why, despite her prominence, the Gospels actually say so little about her and why the Catholic Church for thousands of years has sought to marginalize her importance. In a probing look at the Church’s attitudes toward women, he investigates Christian misogyny in the ancient world, including the suppression of women priests who patterned their activities on Mary’s; explores the impact of Gnostic ambivalence toward women on its depictions of Mary; and shows that these traditions still influence modern portrayals of her. Chilton’s descriptions of who Mary Magdalene was and what she did challenge the male-dominated history of Christianity familiar to most readers. Placing Mary within the traditions of Jewish female savants, Chilton presents a visionary figure who was fully immersed in the mystical teachings that shaped Jesus’ own teachings and a woman who was a religious master in her own right.
