Book excerpt: Published to coincide with an exhibition at the National Gallery of Art, Washington DC, of sixty-eight works of art, primarily from Florentine collections, The Flowering of Florence explores the close ties between art and the natural sciences in Tuscany as seen in the botanical renderings created in Florence for the Medici grand dukes from the late 1500s through the early 1700s. The catalog comprises an essay and checklist with reproductions of the exquisite works in the show. Examples include Jacopo Ligozzi's plant drawings in tempera on paper from the Uffizi Gallery, Giovanna Garzoni's fruit and flower paintings on vellum, and Bartolomeo Bimbi's later and much larger still-life paintings.

Book C zanne Giacometti

Download or read book C zanne Giacometti written by Paul Cézanne and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Though they were born 62 years and hundreds of miles apart, synchronicities between Paul Cézanne and Alberto Giacometti continue to arise. Called "father of us all" by Pablo Picasso, the French Post-Impressionist Cézanne is widely regarded as the artistic bridge between Impressionism and Modernism, and he was highly influential to Giacometti, the Swiss sculptor known for his Surrealistic, elongated human forms of the 1940s, 50s and 60s. The subtitle of this volume, Paths of Doubt, refers in part to both artists' refusal of the movements by which they were embraced: in Cézanne's case, Impressionism, and in Giacometti's, Surrealism. Doubt also alludes to Cézanne's late success. His legendarily bad social skills led him from the artistic hub of 1870s Paris to the French countryside, where he lived as a recluse, only attracting attention for his work when he was in his late fifties. Giacometti, conversely, found early success with the Surrealists but broke off from them in the late 40s when he began making more realistic black figurative sculptures. His doubt surfaced in statements like these: "If I could make a sculpture or a painting (but I'm not sure I want to) in just the way I'd like to, they would have been made long since (but I am incapable of saying what I want). Oh, I see a marvelous and brilliant painting, but I didn't do it, nobody did it. I don't see my sculpture, I see blackness." This unique volume sheds light on Giacometti's stylistic allusions to Cézanne and finds surprising corollaries between the two masters' lives and work.

Download or read book 2028 End written by Gabriel Erb and published by . This book was released on 2019-07-12 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God created a game - it's called The Game of Life. Planet Earth is the playing field, the 10 love commandments are the rules, and we humans are the players who can win or lose. The game is played by two teams, like the game of football. One team's head coach is Jesus and the other team's head coach is Satan. All of us on earth are playing for one of these two teams! Gabriel Ansley Erb wrote the book "2028 END" in order to fully elucidate God's game clock scenario for The Game of Life as contained in the game's handbook, the Holy Bible. The handbook says, "God declared the end from the beginning" (Isaiah 46:10) by using 7 days in the creation event. Each 24 hour creation day foretold of a future 1,000 year period for a total 7,000 year plan God had for The Game of Life to be played on planet earth. And amazingly, to confirm this is all true, God hid a secret prophesy in each creation day foretelling the greatest event He had planned to occur in that day's future millennium!Consequently, Creation day 1 foretold Adam & Eve's fall, which was fulfilled during earth's 1st millennium. Creation day 2 foretold Noah's global flood, which was fulfilled during earth's 2nd millennium. Creation day 3 foretold Moses' Red Sea parting, which was fulfilled during earth's 3rd millennium. Creation day 4 foretold of John the Baptist & Jesus Christ, and so they lived and died during earth's 4th millennium. And the prophecies continue with each Creation day!Gabriel proves all of the above, carefully revealing the prophetic Scriptures as well as the fulfillment Scriptures. Then he reveals a dozen Scriptures proving Christ died earth's 4,000 year and will return earth's 6,000 year. Finally, he proves Christ died Feast of Passover AD 28 and will return Feast of Trumpets 2028. For those who read this book, it is an open and shut case: The Game of Life will end 2,000 years from the year of Christ's death on the cross - AD 2028.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fruit of sixteen years of discriminating acquisition on the international art market, Robert Smith's is one of the most important collections of European bronzes in private hands today. Consisting of thirty pieces, all of the highest quality, it embraces the Renaissance in Italy and northern Europe in such a way that its components complement and enhance the appreciation of each other. Central to the collection is a group of thirteen pieces that illustrate the legacy of Giambologna in Florence, including the superb Nessus and Deianira by his pupil Antonio Susini, and the Hercules and Lichas, a unique record in bronze of a lost silver group by Giambologna himself. Around this are assembled pieces by independent contemporaries: Alessandro Vittoria and Francesco Segala in the Veneto, and the younger Genoese-born Niccolo Roccatagliata, whose surviving work is of the utmost rarity. A selection of fine early North Italian bronzes serves as an introduction to the collection, and the Netherlands and France are well represented - the former by Willem van Tetrode (who briefly worked with Cellini in Florence) and Jan Gregor van der Schardt; the latter by Barthelemy Prieur, official sculptor to Henry IV.

Book Contemporary Art and the Museum

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The institutionalization of contemporary art, seen on a global scale, has only just begun. Despite an increase in global art production, and in the number of biennials, contemporary art has yet to find its footing in the museums outside the West-a phenomenon likely to affect the future of the museum. While migration is the issue in artists' circles, public museums as local institutions are confronted with the challenge of globalization. While migration is the issue in artist's circles, public museums as local institutions are confronted with the challenge of globalization. The reciprocal impact of contemporary non-Western art and local museums all over the world is the main focal point of this book. It assembles a group of art critics, anthropologists, and museum curators who address the identity of the museum and its change from a variety of viewpoints that reflect their different backgrounds. The critical essays were written for two international conferences, while other texts were chosen for their significance as exemplary analyses for the present situation.

Book Birth of the Cool

    Book Details:

  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2008
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 140 pages

Download or read book Birth of the Cool written by Barkley L. Hendricks and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Barkley L. Hendricks: Birth of the Cool accompanies the first career retrospective of the renowned American artist Barkley L. Hendricks, on view at the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University from February 7, 2008 through July 13, 2008. Hendricks was born in 1945 in Philadelphia. His unique work contains elements of both American realism and postmodernism, occupying a space between the portraitists Chuck Close and Alex Katz and the pioneering black conceptualists David Hammons and Adrian Piper. Hendricks is best known for his life-sized portraits of people of color from the urban northeast. His bold portrayal of his subject's attitude and style elevates the common person to celebrity status. Cool, empowering, and sometimes confrontational, Hendricks' artistic privileging of a culturally complex black body has paved the way for today's younger generation of artists. This richly illustrated book contains 100 color images of paintings created from 1964 to the present. It focuses primarily on the artist's full-figure portraits, as well as lesser known early works and the artist's more recent portal-like landscape paintings. The catalog includes the most comprehensive bibliography on Hendricks to date, a timeline of the artist's life, and an interview with the artist by Thelma Golden, Director and Chief Curator at the Studio Museum in Harlem. It also includes essays by Barkley L. Hendricks, Duke University art historian Richard J. Powell, exhibition curator Trevor Schoonmaker, and Franklin Sirmans, Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Menil Collection.

Book From Corot to Monet

Download or read book From Corot to Monet written by Stephen Eisenman and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Through 170 works, this catalogue analyzes the relationship between Impressionism and nature from an innovative angle. For the first time, the extraordinary pictorial innovations of the Impressionists are seen against a broader understanding of the nature, culture and modernity of the time. In other words, the Impressionists not only visually recorded the impact of modernity on the French landscape, but they also embraced a new holistic viewpoint which revealed the dynamism and condition of every social and natural system. The works trace the development of the representation of nature in French nineteenth century painting, beginning with the early innovations to classic norms brought about by painters of the Barbizon school, followed by a thorough exploration of the revolution caused by the great masters of Impressionism such as Monet, Sisley and Pissarro, and ending with the chromatic triumph of Monet's Waterlilies.
