Book Coloniality Ontology and the Question of the Posthuman

Download or read book Coloniality Ontology and the Question of the Posthuman written by Mark Jackson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book brings together emerging insights from across the humanities and social sciences to highlight how postcolonial studies are being transformed by increasingly influential and radical approaches to nature, matter, subjectivity, human agency, and politics. These include decolonial studies, political ontology, political ecology, indigeneity, and posthumanisms. The book examines how postcolonial perspectives demand of posthumanisms and their often ontological discourses that they reflexively situate their own challenges within the many long histories of decolonised practice. Just as postcolonial research needs to critically engage with radical transitions suggested by the ontological turn and its related posthumanist developments, so too do posthumanisms need to decolonise their conceptual and analytic lenses. The chapters' interdisciplinary analyses are developed through global, critical, and empirical cases that include: city spaces and urbanisms in the Global North and South; food politics and colonial land use; cultural and cosmic representation in film, theatre, and poetry; nation building; the Anthropocene; materiality; the void; pluriversality; and, indigenous world views. Theoretically and conceptually rich, the book proposes new trajectories through which postcolonial and posthuman scholarships can learn from one another and so critically advance.

  • Pages : 229 pages

Download or read book Firmament12 written by King Ram and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2019-02-25 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is named from heavens to earth, written directly from my hands, of course, in the explanation from the beginning how my life has been unfolded and conducted under the hardness of my creator and the discovery at the end of time that Mother Earth is the producer of all that we can observe and that Celestial King is created under this sanctity and is set to govern all that it creates. In this way, Craon God continues to create, and at the same time, Mother Earth also produces. This is that we cannot understand the psychology to which we are placed, but we must understand that we must kneel down to God and to Mother Earth because even God kneels down himself. Celestially, there is this high force that cannot be destroyed, but we must obey him as we are taught by our only begotten God and do not doubt that our forces will not decay in silence but in a force that is not invented. I am declaring it today, and with the presence of my paintings in this second book called Firmament12, I will explain that everything has been studied by me since the beginning of my life, focusing my studies on everything I have been able to observe and posing from time to time to let them know my face. It is something I can leave to be recognized in time, and that my presence is legitimate today and that my offspring is also presented in this book, descendant Maya. Of course, this is the race that God has chosen from the beginning. I know you cannot understand, but I leave you with this thinking with my stay here on Earth. (I am the son of man) from the land of the Holy Spirit. Of course, humanity does not understand why they say that God acts in a mysterious way. It is clear that Mother Earth is in charge of creating everything that pleases her, and she gives them to the only begotten saint to govern it. It’s that in this form they (homosexuals and lesbians) are created under this divine order. For that reason, the Holy begotten King has had to provide a perfect plan so that all the creations are modified with a holy and celestial order, which is his last covenant, and he declares it in Jeremiah 31:33–34. With this perfect plan, it is pleasing to our Mother Earth. Note that the heart has no gender.

Download or read book A Beauty That Hurts written by W. George Lovell and published by University of Texas Press. This book was released on 2014-05-14 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Though a 1996 peace accord brought a formal end to a conflict that had lasted for thirty-six years, Guatemala's violent past continues to scar its troubled present and seems destined to haunt its uncertain future. George Lovell brings to this revised and expanded edition of A Beauty That Hurts decades of fieldwork throughout Guatemala, as well as archival research. He locates the roots of conflict in geographies of inequality that arose during colonial times and were exacerbated by the drive to develop Guatemala's resources in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The lines of confrontation were entrenched after a decade of socioeconomic reform between 1944 and 1954 saw modernizing initiatives undone by a military coup backed by U.S. interests and the CIA. A United Nations Truth Commission has established that civil war in Guatemala claimed the lives of more that 200,000 people, the vast majority of them indigenous Mayas. Lovell weaves documentation about what happened to Mayas in particular during the war years with accounts of their difficult personal situations. Meanwhile, an intransigent elite and a powerful military continue to benefit from the inequalities that triggered armed insurrection in the first place. Weak and corrupt civilian governments fail to impose the rule of law, thus ensuring that Guatemala remains an embattled country where postwar violence and drug-related crime undermine any semblance of orderly, peaceful life.

Download or read book Scholars in COVID Times written by Melissa Castillo Planas and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2023-09-15 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scholars in COVID Times documents the new and innovative forms of scholarship, community collaboration, and teaching brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. In this volume, Melissa Castillo Planas and Debra A. Castillo bring together a diverse range of texts, from research-based studies to self-reflective essays, to reexamine what it means to be a publicly engaged scholar in the era of COVID. Between social distancing, masking, and remote teaching—along with the devastating physical and emotional tolls on individuals and families—the disruption of COVID-19 in academia has given motivated scholars an opportunity (or necessitated them) to reconsider how they interact with and inspire students, conduct research, and continue collaborative projects. Addressing a broad range of factors, from anti-Asian racism to pedagogies of resilience and escapism, digital pen pals to international performance, the essays are connected by a flexible, creative approach to community engagement as a core aspect of research and teaching. Timely and urgent, but with long-term implications and applications, Scholars in COVID Times offers a heterogeneous vision of scholarly and pedagogical innovation in an era of contestation and crisis.
