Download or read book Macromolecular Physics written by Bernhard Wunderlich and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This third volume completes the first part of the project " Macromolecular Physics." The first volume dealt with the description of macromolecular crystals; the second volume dealt with crystal growth; and the third volume summarizes our knowledge of the melting of linear, flexible macromolecules. The discussion in the three volumes goes from reasonably well-established topics, such as the structure, morphology, and defects in crystals, to topics still in flux, such as crystal nucleation, detailed growth mechanisms, and annealing processes, to arrive at the present topics of equilibrium, nonequilibrium, and copolymer melting. Our knowledge is quite limited on many aspects of these latter topics.

Book Macromolecular Science

Download or read book Macromolecular Science written by R. Ulrich and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1974, as we approached the National Bicentennial and the Centenary of the American Chemical Society, Professor Otto Vogl, then Chairman of the Division of Polymer Chemistry, arranged a very special symposium dedicated to a review of the history of the Divi sion. It was an extraordinary occasion which included remarks by Professors Herman Mark, Charles Marvel, William Bailey, and Charles Overberger, all past Chairmen of the Division. The Executive Committee of the Division of Polymer Chemistry felt that 1976 deserved even more attention since it was to be also the 25th, the Silver Anniversary, of the Division of Polymer Chemis try. This year would be a most appropriate one not only to review milestones in our discipline, but also to look to the future. It was decided to undertake this volume and Dr. R. D. Ulrich agreed to serve as editor in assembling the collected papers. It is the hope of the officers of the Division that this volume will serve many purposes - a reference text, a record, and a source of perspective. F. E. Book Binding and Linkage

    Book Details:
  • Author : Jeffries Wyman
  • Publisher : University Science Books
  • Release : 1990
  • ISBN : 9780935702569
  • Pages : 358 pages

Download or read book Binding and Linkage written by Jeffries Wyman and published by University Science Books. This book was released on 1990 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ligand-macromolecule interactions are of fundamental importance in the control of biological processes. This book applies the principles of linkage thermodynamics to polyfunctional macromolecular systems under equilibrium conditions, and describes the binding, linkage, and feedback phenomena that lead to control of complex metabolic processes. The first chapter sets out the different processes (conformational changes, changes in state of aggregation, phase changes) involving biological macromolecules which are affected by chemical variables (such as ligands) or physical variables (such as temperature and pressure). The general effects of ligands on micromolecular conformations and interactions are illustrated with specific examples from the respiratory proteins, electron-transport proteins, and nucleic acid binding proteins. Subsequent chapters develop these themes, and describe in detail how the mathematics of regulation and control can be applied to macromolecules in biological system.
