Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What drives economic growth in New Zealand? How has New Zealand been impacted by globalization and the financial crisis? What will shape future productivity and competitiveness? In this book, leading economists assemble key data to provide an analytical introduction to the contemporary New Zealand economy. Interpreting key economic indicators over time—gross domestic product and interest rates, population, employment and productivity levels, trade and investment, and government accounts—this examination focuses particularly on two issues: globalization and the rise of the Asian economies during the past 30 years, and the origins and continuing effects of the 2007&–08 global financial crisis. Rich with local data and case studies, this is a clear and concise assessment of the current structure and performance of New Zealand's economy from a historical and global perspective.

Book Economic Concepts and Applications

Download or read book Economic Concepts and Applications written by James Stewart and published by . This book was released on 2012-04-04 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fifth edition of ECONOMIC CONCEPTS AND APPLICATIONS continues to echo the great nineteenth-century economist, Alfred Marshall, who said that economics is 'a study of mankind in the ordinary business of life'. Economics, at its core, is about making decisions: the course of study chosen by a student; the job chosen by a job seeker; the goods purchased by a consumer; the crops planted by a farmer; the pricing decisions of a producer; a government's decision to raise or lower taxes - all are economic decisions and have economic consequences. Some decisions have little impact on the economy, while others can have a global impact. This text aims to help the reader apply economic concepts and models to the real world. The fifth edition of this popular textbook covers economic concepts, theories and models required by students of introductory economics courses. The author seeks to show students how economic tools can be used to understand the economic forces present in our daily lives. Global warming and globalisation are examples of contemporary issues raised for discussion. The text has a clear flow of essential economic principles and uses appendices to elaborate on more technical content.

Book The New Zealand Macroeconomy

Download or read book The New Zealand Macroeconomy written by Stephen Hickson and published by . This book was released on 2013-12-04 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most economics books used in New Zealand are US or Australian based and so lack much (or anything) in the way of information relating to New Zealand. For microeconomics this is not so important, but this is not the case for macroeconomics where there are often considerable differences between different economies. The New Zealand Macroeconomy: What we measure and what it means provides an up-to-date and concise solution, filling the 'macroeconomy gap' for students studying economics in the New Zealand context. Written to be read in conjunction with existing economics books The New Zealand Macroeconomy: What we measure and what it means discusses core topics from the New Zealand perspective in a conversational tone that makes this book eminently readable and an invaluable resource for all introductory economics students in New Zealand. This short text will also be a valuable supplement for NCEA students.

Book New Zealand

Download or read book New Zealand written by Patrick Massey and published by Springer. This book was released on 1995-04-03 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Before 1984 New Zealand was insulated by high levels of protectionism and with a degree of State intervention and regulation unparalleled elsewhere in the western world. Since then New Zealand has experienced one of the most far reaching economic reform programmes of any developed economy. The book describes and analyses the radical economic reform programme undertaken in New Zealand since 1985. These reforms included deregulation of the financial sector, removal of various forms of assistance to producers, particularly in the agricultural sector, increased import liberalisation, radical tax reform, a major overhaul of the public sector and the privatisation of state enterprises. The book seeks to explain why a Labour Government embarked upon the sort of reform programme normally considered the preserve of right-wing administrations elsewhere. It argues that New Zealand's experience provides important lessons for policy-makers elsewhere.

This book was released on 2019-09-20 with total page 47 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Selected Issues paper discusses interactions between external risks and the New Zealand economy. The current set of external risks has the potential to be extremely damaging to New Zealand, but two factors would likely mitigate the economic impact. First, the flexible exchange rate regime is a reliable shock absorber and automatic stabilizer from the perspective of GDP, although it leads to a rebalancing between the domestic and external sectors in the economy. Second, net migration flows can reduce the negative impact of lower external demand under some circumstances, such as a growth slowdown in Australia. Fiscal policy could also offset some of the short-term costs of adjustment. Fiscal policy can provide stimulus at relatively small and manageable cost to the already-low government debt to GDP ratio. Moreover, at the current juncture, fiscal policy might need to provide the bulk of policy support against negative shocks, as monetary policy might be ineffective if has become constrained by an effective lower bound on the monetary policy interest rate.
