This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Line drawing interpretation is a challenging area with enormous practical potential. At present, many companies throughout the world invest large amounts of money and human resource in the input of paper drawings into computers. The technology needed to produce an image of a drawing is widely available, but the transformation of these images into more useful forms is an active field of research and development. Machine Interpretation of Line Drawing Images - describes the theory and practice underlying the computer interpretation of line drawing images and - shows how line drawing interpretation systems can be developed. The authors show how many of the problems can be tackled and provide a thorough overview of the processes underpinning the interpretation of images of line drawings.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book solves a long-standing problem in computer vision, the interpretation of line drawings and, in doing so answers many of the concerns raised by this problem, particularly with regard to errors in the placement of lines and vertices in the images. Sugihara presents a computational mechanism that functionally mimics human perception in being able to generate three-dimensional descriptions of objects from two-dimensional line drawings. The objects considered are polyhedrons or solid objects bounded by planar faces, and the line drawings are single-view pictures of these objects. Sugihara's mechanism has several potential applications. It can facilitate man-machine communication by extracting object structures automatically from pictures drawn by a designer, which can be particularly useful in the computer-aided design of geometric objects, such as mechanical parts and buildings. It can also be used in the intermediate stage of computer vision systems used to obtain and analyze images in the outside world. The computational mechanism itself is not accompanied by a large database but is composed of several simple procedures based on linear algebra and combinatorial theory. Contents:Introduction. Candidates for Spatial Interpretation. Discrimination between Correct and Incorrect Pictures. Correctness of HiddenPart-Drawn Pictures. Algebraic Structures of Line Drawings. Combinatorial Structures of Line Drawings. Overcoming Superstrictness. Algorithmic Aspects of Generic Reconstructibility. Specification of Unique Shapes. Recovery of Shape from Surface Information. Polyhedrons and Rigidity. Kokichi Sugihara is Professor in the Department of Mathematical Engineering and instrumentation Physics, Faculty of Engineering, the University of Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan. Machine interpretation of Line Drawingsis included in The MIT Press Series in Artificial Intelligence, edited by Patrick Henry Winston and Michael Brady.

This book was released on 1964 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The novel organization of the program in terms of figure descriptions, which are analyzed to find transformation rules, and rule descriptions, which are analyzed to find 'common generalizations' of pairs of transformation rules, has implications for the design of problem-solving programs and for machine learning. These implications are discussed at some length and suggestions are made for work on pattern-recognition and learning techniques based on ideas developed in the course of the present investigation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pattern Recognitions by Humans and Machines, Volume 2: Visual Perceptions covers aspects of research on visual perception. The book discusses visual form perception, figure-ground organization, and the spatial and temporal responses of the visual system; eye movements; and visual pattern perception. The text also describes a computer vision model based on psychophysical experiments; perspectives from brain theory and artificial intelligence; and the capacity to extract shape properties and spatial relations among objects and objects' parts. Knowledge-mediated perception is also considered. Psychologists and people involved in the study of visual perceptions will find the book useful.

Download or read book Machine Vision written by Wesley E. Snyder and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2010-11-25 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 2004 book is an accessible and comprehensive introduction to machine vision. It provides all the necessary theoretical tools and shows how they are applied in actual image processing and machine vision systems. A key feature is the inclusion of many programming exercises that give insights into the development of practical image processing algorithms. The authors begin with a review of mathematical principles and go on to discuss key issues in image processing such as the description and characterization of images, edge detection, restoration and feature extraction, segmentation, texture and shape. They also discuss image matching, statistical pattern recognition, clustering, and syntactic pattern recognition. Important applications are described, including optical character recognition and automatic target recognition. Software and data used in the book can be found at www.cambridge.org/9780521830461. A useful reference for practitioners, the book is aimed at graduate students in electrical engineering, computer science and mathematics.
